Match Race, no non-NBT boosts?
03/08/14 at 05:01:39
Hi,
I'm a beginner in SMK. I did the non-NBT boosts (in Time Trial) successfully using a 180° powerslide. Now I tried it in Match Race mode. But I dont hear higher engine noise any more.
Is the boost not possible in Match Race, or is there only a problem with the sound? Or do I have to modify my timing for the boost? I noticed, that for the initial boost I have to change my timing in Match Race too.
BTW: I'm using the PAL version.

^boosts in match race are pretty much the same as in TT, if you are doing a 180 turn you should get one if doing correctly. I think the engine sound is quieter in Match Race than in TT (prob because the noise of two engines would be off putting), I can't tell if there is a pitch change in engine sound in match or not but the boost will still be there.

I had never noticed this but Molly may be right on that point:

And yes, even non-NBT boosts do work in Match Race.

The feeling of being a world champion is intoxicating, and I didn't want to ever not be the world champion again. Then I realized it didn't matter that much since I had nothing more to prove and achieved my most important goal(s).

I'm pretty sure there's no change in the pitch of the engine due to having coins. If you do a boost when you have 0-2 coins or so, you WILL hear the pitch change. Same with GP. You actually can hear a change in pitch when you collect coins. You may or may not notice it frequently, because you collect a bunch of coins early in the race when the engine is constantly changing pitch (accelerating).
In Battle Mode, you hear pitch change when you do a boost, just like TT. The common thread is there are no coins.

Unplug one of the audio cables(red or white), and you'll be able to hear it more easily. The game only offers mono for each screen in 2p mode.
