It's been a hell of a long time since I was last around here, and it looks like my times for Super Mario Kart are still listed, even though I've not done a thing with them for years - I don't even think I've done time trials in all that time.

Sadly my original SNES kart has lost the save data and I've never gotten around to replacing the save battery. I do have the PAL Wii virtual console version though that I could play around with.

I guess I'll have to get the DeLorean up past 99mph in order to improve my SMK times - I believe I was within the top 100 PAL times when I submitted them back in 2003 - I've got a couple hundred positions to regain, lol.

If it's the last weekend in August (or outside the UK) then I'll have to pass. I have plans for that weekend (local Highland Games), and I currently lack a passport.

I still have the old SNES game - just needs the save battery replaced and I've never gotten round to getting (or experimenting with) a soldering kit to do it myself. As I said though, I do have the Wii's EU Virtual console version as well, but I'm sure there's someone out there who'd be able to work out a frame-by-frame analysis of the emulation to see if times recorded there are as valid as those recorded on the SNES.

I can't really vouch for the Virtual Console SMK itself - like I said, it's been a long time since I did any time trials (still need to finish off the 150cc GP as well on the VC edition too) - what I do know however, is that the Virtual Console version of Pilotwings doesn't "quite" feel right to me when compared to the original SNES cart, so I'm guessing the SNES emulation's not 100% accurate.

It's quite possible to reach the Top 100 by playing on VC, but at higher levels it's not good enough to compete with the original SNES.

PLus a lot of ppl play it on a flat screen. Personally if you have a crt tv and a snes working well youl be better off using that in the long run. Up to you though if you are happy to continue TT on the Wii vc.

What I'll probably do is work on the Virtual Console version until I can get around to replacing the SNES cart's save battery then start work on that. Once the battery's replaced, it should be good for another 20 years or so.

It's good to see that other people have noticed the differences between playing on the actual SNES and the virtual console (For VC SNES games I use the original Classic Controller. For everything else it's the Classic Controller Pro - just "feels" better that way for some weird reason)

It may be some time before I submit any new times though - I'm going to need a lot of practice to get to the level I was at 10+ years ago...
