CDM 2014 - Meal/drinks
01/22/14 at 06:33:15

Do you have any suggestions/wishes about the meals/drinks during the CDM ? Is there something (not too expensive of course) that you would like to eat/drink, or something that you have to eat every year and that you strongly dislike ?

I might not take into account one single person's request, but if several people ask me to buy some stuff, I'll consider it. Serious answers please, as I'm dealing with your/our money after all. Wink

Suggestions:

- The usual rice / tuna / salad dish (as we need to eat healthier at least one day)
- Pizza - definitely
- Kebab - definitely
- Pasta / Chicken something
- Barbeque (was great a few years ago)

Nah fuck healthy. CDM is my blowout week.

Im not fussed really though as long nothing has sweetcorn in. Il starve for a day if it does.

Dinners are always great, so dont have any special suggestions for that. Aside from plenty of pizza. My biggest gripe with CDM though is breakfast. Can we please have some non chocolate based stuff this year? Like plenty of cornflakes or porridge, a jar or two of Marmite, and some decent bread? Oh and a bag of teabags.

And yeah, another BBQ like in 2012 would be magnificent.

Defo agree with Clark here, lets do a fry up one of the days -> bacon, eggs and whatnot. For those of you (mostly non uk guys) who haven't tried that yet, youl love it!

I would LOVE to enjoy an English breakfast with bacon, sausages, eggs, etc. — for example the last day during the awards ceremony. But c'mon guys, let's be realistic...

I already posted on the French motherboard for porridge, champagne and a bbq (Neo said he'd do his best for everything but the champagne).

Also to add, the good thing about the venue is that their is a mini-market shop a couple of mins walk away so most things are easily got for fussy eaters (like me, hate onions/mushrooms/pickled green shit) if you are prepared to spend a few euro's during your stay. There is also a pizza/kebab shop in the town, unfortunately last year it was closed as they were on holiday ... maybe someone should let them know when we are coming and ask them nicely not to holiday during that week Wink That and the camp place had a food place (though I never used it, many others did and the chips looked ok for France).

Thing I would add, is more beer (2012 had a good amount) as in 2013 we ran out quickly and while many people we prepared to drink beers bought from the shop, much fewer we actually prepared to do the buying Angry

I had told Geo he had wasted a lot of money buying shitloads of useless milk instead of beer. I have a good feeling towards Neo's reaction about this. Smiley

What would be good is if there was a menu for the week published so that you can plan in advance for days where you know you won't like the food and make other arrangements (i.e. shop/takeaway)

What does couscous mean in Netherlands? Because we never had what is really called couscous at CDM (and I'm very sad it never happened, by the way).

couscous is steamed drum wheat, and yes we did have it in 2013. It was on the annual cold salads day (there was rice salad, couscous salad and one other can't remember if it was potato or pasta). I agree with Aron, what the french put in their rice/couscous/potato salads isn't the nicest, there tends to be lots of green pickled shit (possibly chunks of gherkin) and capers (the worst of the worst). That was the particular meal day I was thinking about when I asked if a menu for the week could be issued before to allow others time to plan to do something else Wink

Hmm, maybe that word means something different in your languages. In France we use this name to describe a traditional meal from Morocco which is made of a mixture including semolina as the main ingredient, various vegetables, mutton, chicken, sausages, like this:

I'd have been the happiest man on earth if we ever had this at CDM, I loooooove it.

couscous is the staple in that meal, if we had a proper Moroccan style meal then that would make me hapopy too (I like couscous just not what it served with at cdm)

I had couscous only one time, I don't see very much Middle Eastern food around here. It's so strange for me to hear people in Europe talk about Arab food all the time...

The couscous I had was sort of like rice I guess. Except the grains were small and round. That's how I would describe it, for people not familiar with Mideast cuisine. It did look a lot like in Guillaume's picture, but with no vegetables or anything on top. I just ate it straight up. But it probably would go good with some meat! This couscous was not from a restaurant, it was store-bought and you just heat it up in the microwave at home.

I don't know if Clark would eat that stuff in the picture though, if that's corn I'm looking at.

I haven't been a big couscous fan as a kid, they make it some other way in Turkey which is messed up.

Just in case, definitely avoid:

- Okra (sickest food ever depending how it's cooked)
- Aubergines

Id say stick with the barbeque / meats / pizzas / kebabs and that sorta stuff. Ok itl probably be more junk foody for 5 days, but as Clark said we are on holiday then so lets enjoy ourselves and we can eat a bit healthier when we get back home.

You've never eaten gumbo before Sami? Or had fried okra?  Shocked

Kebabs, that's another thing I hear you (and maybe some other UK Karters) talking about a lot, but nobody where I live eats that. We've heard of a "shish kebab" and know what it is, we just never seem to eat them. I don't I've ever seen it on any menu! The closest I come is when I get the "chicken on a stick" from a Chinese buffet.

Okra:   Bruv if you have it the way we do you will be sick forever. Period. End of story.

Kebabs:   It isn't a takeaway dish as much in the states as much as Europe. It is very popular in the UK and i know France, Germany, Finland etc have it a lot. Mainly with the movement of the population to these countries since the 60s. For comparison, they have something called gyros which you can find at those little things in NYC, Chicago and most probably all over USA. Some of these guys sell falafel as well which we can also get here at our kebab shops. Altogether it is serious gamer's munch.

I imagine proper kebabs are really good, but the takeaway ones here in the UK have devolved into a horrible, greasy mess. I really dont know how you can stomach them so frequently Sami. The only way id ever eat one is if im steaming drunk. Which to be fair is quite often.

Id take an egg, bacon, and sausage bap over a kebab any day.

This is a Turkish done dish. English people mostly don't even know what Okra is. You have to go to the mediterranean shops to buy at specially as some Supermarkets dont even sell it here!
