Merry Christmas everyone - what a GIFT!!!
12/24/13 at 21:54:24

Hi everyone,

It is stupid o' clock in the morning, but it is Christmas so I don't mind. So firstly, merry Christmas to you all, hope you have a great day with family, presents, a nice meal and whatever you have planned.

Anyway something ironically happened overnight, which is 21 years precisely since I got my first copy of SMK as a Christmas present from my sister Ayla (Leyla's mother) on Christmas 1992. One might say that this year is the year that SMK becomes a full adult by age Smiley

There have recently been some heroic last laps driven on some 5-laps, namely with Guillaume's insane maneuvers last weekend on Bowser Castle 2. Hopefully this one will be another to add to our collection. That said, my lap 1 sucked big time, and laps 3 and 4 were pretty weak for my usual pace so I would like to return here again very soon to chip it down further. But for now I sincerely promise I will rest at least a day from my OCD with this project, and maybe enjoy some Christmas Turkey first.

So here is my gift to you all, enjoy Smiley

(Btw an official video without music will be uploaded a little later today in the other topic)

I don't often congratulate you for your MC1 WRs because I was waiting for the big one to come. Now that it's done I'm happy to see I'm the first one who can react to this. Smiley

I think we have the 5-lap WR of the year (all mine are beaten there...), and there will be no other choices for the last POW award of 2013 too. Grin Epic race even if not super consistent, but that last lap made completely everything. Reaching a sun 11"30 in a 5-lap final lap is something insane, but a 11"24 is just... wow, just can't find words.

I can't even imagine what you felt when you achieved this since I still haven't hit my similar goal. But it just may be a wonderful feeling of wish fulfillment. You deserved it after all those hours of dedication to your SMK baby. Major congrats and now enjoy a super deserved rest far from that track where you might be safe from anyone forever.

Merry Xmas, Godfather. Wink

Ah, and of course: Smiley

The feeling of being a world champion is intoxicating, and I didn't want to ever not be the world champion again. Then I realized it didn't matter that much since I had nothing more to prove and achieved my most important goal(s).

Thanks so much buddy, this time took so long to happen so I think it was going to end up being something interesting. Owe thanks to you for pushing me here with the great stuff you've been hitting all year Smiley That's what is great with this game, and with all competition games. Setting goals and pushing each other that step further. The moment I got it I couldn't believe I boosted at the end, it was like "oh I didn't charge it enough... oh shit im flying towards the line wtf?!"

Anyway I got Zelda for the 3DS (which I know you played and loved) so I know what il be playing a bit of today Smiley Gotta dash to Finnish church now with mother for a service then sort food out.

Il get the normal video thing up later on the other topic.

For some reason, the "I felt no way" part had me burst out laughing !

Also the last turn is absolutely incredible, destroyed the ghost right there.

Congrats and Merry Christmas y'all !! Smiley

Absolutely jaw-dropping...you didn't even get 98 or 96, but straight to 90. Even the laps you supposedly call weak are quite sick already. The final lap is an anomaly...0"08 better than the rest of the World has ever driven (in flap attempts mind you)....are you sure you still wanna beat this?!

That flatboost defies the physics of SMK. I'm pretty sure you need more frames of powersliding to charge a boost, but the gamecode must be evolving or something.  Huh

I have to say corner 3 and the approach to last corner set up with the flatboost was one of the fastest I executed I think. So replicating the 2nd half of that lap again would be crazy. My 2nd corner of last lap was a tad weaker than my 11"23 flap last week but still happy and shocked.

For me I think that most shocking thing is hitting it on this day in particular (the 21st bday of when I first played it), and also having splits all over the place shows us that there is no end to this game. My next goal with the track is to go sub 57"75 (next quartile) and def try for that sub 11"20 lap. At some point, but I will need a psycho-level ending again.

I owe thanks to all you guys, as if we never had the site and community, challengers, the WR might still be 1'00"99 and we would have left it at that. Your sub 1'00" set new barriers and then more after that when we made it to sub 59. I think we owed it to the game to get that 57. It certainly does not end there though... I will be playing this again.

Whatever SMK goals you have or goals in life, job, family, other hobbies. Never ever stop fighting... and I never will. This is what competitive gaming / record setting has done for us, and taught us.

Now you're frightening me, to be honest... I thought I was a psycho with my RR-relative goals but your level of craziness towards your favourite track is much higher than mine. Shocked

Never stop fighting until you reach some goals that are insane enough to just stop when they're hit.

You're really crazier and more obsessive than I expected, Sami. Smiley

Comparatively speaking I'm not even sure if these current WR's are 'worse' than his no pipejump records (1'01"05...I mean, srsly) though. So we kinda already knew that he flew one over the cuckoo's nest when it's about this track.  Lips Sealed

Like I said, pure OCD needed for this sort of thing, but to be continued some day.

My theoretical limit is much sharper (around 57"5x) and the 1'01"05 is too, but that's a more straight forward driving style, just sharp.

Well, time to contact Guinness because they need to change their cover page to this. No doubt this is the WR of the year...I think a better question would be is it the WR of the decade!

Like KVD said, the fact that you annihilated the sub makes this WR even crazier. Oh yeah, and the last lap had an impossible boost in it which made it miles faster than any lap ever driven by others. This must feel kinda like hitting your first sub 1'01 way back in the day.

This must be a the best anniversary present imaginable, especially after all the time you spent on it. It's amazing how much time you guys have played this game compared to me; I've only played for a little over four years. I'm honored to have times that are even somewhat close to the WRs after playing so little compared to people like Sami. That said, I can't wait to see what everybody, including me, is capable of doing in the next few years! I'm sure it will be hard to rival this sub though.

I think Karel and I would be able to hit that sub too, but the problem is, why would we try to do that...

Opener and middle laps I can do, but unless I figure out how to perform a magical flatboost with less charging than the required number of frames, I don't think I would be able to hit it.

You'd be able to perform this, right? (don't know if the splits are possible in that specific order, I don't get it when it's about which splits are doable and which aren't)

11"97
11"52
11"56
11"52
11"41

57"98, nothing really "extreme" there. If I had a good reason to waste time there again I'd go for it.

Hmm yeah probably correct. But I have no idea how to perform 11"2x laps. So with clearly less max potential, I have no good reason to visit it again either.

Hahaha, lol at this 56"44* on the NTSC side. A very hidden 0"01 improvement that means a lot, maybe something like "having a ghost to fight against it and improve the NTSC WR to the first 55" ever performed on console ever before the end of the year" ? Smiley
