The Mach Bike having outward drifting definitely throws that out of the windows.
I wouldn't have minded inward drifting going back, but the inward drifting were simply far superior to the other vehicles in MKW (takes turns better and can dodge items easily) I get why they would want to rebalance things.

Anyway, it seems like we already have some official names for the MK8 tracks :

Fortunately. They played the biggest role in making MKW highly unbalanced.

Anyway, I really like the new trailer, too. I hope this game turns out to be great for both competitive and random, carefree races with friends.

Nice picture! I have no idea what Dolphin Shoals is but the others are pretty obvious.

Also, there are names, Bone Dry Dunes (the Dry Bowser based new track) and Shy Guy Falls shown on the signs right before those!

Yeah getting rid of the inward drift is due to the balance of the game. As much as I will miss it. Still kind of irked this looks like a revamped 7.

It looks better than 7, so it has that going for it.

The game looks great, but I feel like it's 'just' gonna be a game to have fun with friends.

No inward drifting bikes and no wheelies means we have to use karts. (= outward drifting bikes?)
If that's true TTs wil be more like in MK7 especially if coins give speed advantage :/

I still don't get the 'anti-gravity' thing, it makes MK look like the Sonic (race)games right now.

The returning of Baby Peach and Baby Daisy is also horrible.
I don't want to hear Baby Peach's annoying noises the whole time Sad

This game looked to be MK7 2.0 from the beginning and I guess it will end up like a polished (maybe better balanced?who knows) MK7 with new vehicles, chars and tracks. Bikes will probably still be superior to karts online if they have similiar stats, just because they have a smaller hitbox than karts. For TTs, I guess it all depends on stats.

I just hope they nerf triple reds(worst item in mk7) and let the blue shell fly in the air again, then I will be happy with this game.

I'm personally happy that this looks like an improved 7. I never liked the MKW mechanics at all, and I thought MK7's were much more interesting and enjoyable, even if with many flaws. From the trailers, I can see that some weak points of MK7 have been worked on already.

I like the coins, and I'm not sure why they get so much hate. I thought they added a nice level of depth and experimentation to the game, but that's just me. Maybe they can fix theissue that some tracks had very few coins and made them impossible to find unless you were 1st (like on NBC).

My biggest hope is that the triple red shell is removed. I'm sure it was the one gamebreaking MK7 item.

They mainly add an issue for no-item wars... Because players with more coins are going faster so it's simply impossible for the others to catch up if they have no coins... unlike MKDS or MKDD or even MKW where we could really see if one player was better than an other simply by racing on a GP or more...

But Mario Kart isn't, and will never be, meant to be played without items. They're the key feature of the whole series.

Yeah, I fully agree with you...
But sometimes it's still fun to race without items, especially when you're fed up of the bad luck you have and you just want to show your skills and compete against these noobs who pretend they're better than you just because they got lucky.
MK7 isn't a game where it's possible to compete this way unfortunately, unlike MKW or MKDS etc... as I said in my previous post, and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who liked this kind of wars with no items, especially on MKDS, this feeling when we could finally show what we were really capable of. Tongue

Seems like MK8 won't be a game for this type of races either...

Yeah, but as I said, we can't expect MK8 - or any MK game - to be balanced for no-item races, since they've never been considered in the first place by the developers.
MKDS for example is a good game for no-item races, but it's an effect of developing choices that had unintended consequences (for example, the whole MT system and physics that make snaking possible).

I think(really more so hoping) that since 12 racers are returning the tracks will be wider, ala MKW track size. Thus allowing more coin placements.

The coin system in 7 is my biggest problem with 7. It was very poorly implemented. There wasn't enough for 8 players, the cap on 10, when you needed them to unlock parts was insanely stupid. It just ended up not being a fun game, at all.

From what I've heard and read, the fixed a lot of the clunky gameplay that went with gilding and underwater sections, so at the very least the karts will be more controllable. It has that going for it.

Imo the coins allowed indeed some new strat experimentations and stuff but to me it was more like an other way to fail a run (if a coin was missed) than anything else. So it made me restart about twice or 3 times more to get finally a good run.
That's also pretty much why I stopped TTing after 2 months playing. And the track that made me stop was DH. The coins at the begining + the glider boost + not falling when jumping down the path (because it was the strat back in February 2012). I spent 8 hours straight on this track and felt like I had lost my day for a couple of tenths to improve and didn't want this to happen again.

tl;dr I think the coins were more of another way to fail and restart a run than anything else...

@Sorozone, You should have read what I wrote in the other topic where I explained what I felt while testing the game. It will more controllable, but just when drifting.
