I know of a test that I can do to see if Japanese can read it or not, I'll try it out

Anyway, Google Translating pages into Japanese is a terrible, terrible idea. Nothing would make sense, and Japanese people would just laugh at it.

Translating Japanese into English seems to work fine, though. Wouldn't they at least be able to understand it?

Anything with a slightly complex sentence structure, conjunctions, slang or any characteristic quirks (which are very common in Japanese) will almost definitely not make sense after translation. Japanese machine translated stuff also tends to be very unnatural and easy to spot, for example, the overuse of 私, あなた being used too often (as in Japanese people tend to refer to others by their name rather than as 'you'), inconsistent levels of politeness, and wrongly assumed sentence subjects (Japanese language omits subjects with extreme regularity once they've brought up the first time).

Forgot to say a couple weeks ago, but google translate is indeed bad. However, I'm gonna get an English-Japanese translator book and a Japanese keyboard. There should be real Japanese in an actual translator book, right?

Japanese players will be indifferent anyway. It's pointless to make a copy of the same news in choppy and unrecognizable Japanese, especially since Japanese players could just google translate it anyway.

Also, many Japanese players know about the WR site. There aren't a lot of Japanese players who have consistent timesheets (Earl, こ~ちぇ~, そうめん, 101, and maybe おまえモナー, とれいん, and ろこあ), most just go for a few good times or WRs, or simply refuse to get NG times.

This is just an example of a different layout of the timesheet that I drafted up earlier for the heck of it:

I'd like to have some feedback:
1. What do you think of this layout? Do you prefer to have 3lap and flap times on separate tables and pages, or would you instead have no glitch 3lap and flap on one page and glitch on another?

2. What do you think of glitch times on the Players' Page? NB they won't affect your no glitch AF, PRSR etc. Would you like glitch standards or would you abolish them completely?

3. What colour scheme would you propose, or is the current one fine?

The more feedback the better.  Smiley

The links to sorting out the tables in order of PRSR, ARR and Rank will still be there. That's not present in this screenshot.

I'd have to of course consult the admin and see if all this is possible if a proposed change should go ahead, but I'd like as much feedback as possible before going into such a decision.

Also, what else needs to be done (besides what I'm pointing out)?
Add the MK7 WR's link on the side.
Thoughts on Women vs Women?
Modify the Joining Info page because of current confusion.

Oh, and feel free to suggest rivalries!!!

I like this layout. It's cleaner and flaps are useless for rankings in this game because they do not save like in MKW.

Not a fan of glitches. It's up to you and the community, I guess. If there are enough people who glitch are want it up on the Players' Page then I'm all for it.

The current color scheme is fine, imo. Maybe a change in color scheme for once but I wouldn't know a nicer color for the page. =s wot 'bout orange or green :S :S :S

Adding the MK7 WR History site to the page would be really good. It'll help the current and newer players improve and keep the activity up, honestly. Maybe make a new sub-link to the main page.

I'm not sure about women vs women. I can only remember Wosie but I think she quit. I suggest it be removed.

Rivalries? Rookie vs the world.

I don't mind having glitch charts as long as they don't impact on af or anything like that.

As for rivalries, the best ones would perhaps be clan based imo, though I'm not sure how many players can be in a rivalry...

Glitch times will have their own separate charts. It would be ludicrous to combine them with no glitch times.

Up to 7 players can be included in a rivalry. 3-7, because if there were 2 you can just use the matchup link.

1) The layout is fine.
2) I think the site should have glitch rankings, even though they're not that popular and the game is pretty much dead. I don't think standards are necessary and they'd be hard to make.
3) The color scheme looks great.

I think it looks good and the colour scheme is fine.  I've only played rMT, rDC and MW glitches so I feel like this would force me to play the other glitches.  That's just me though.  Standards I don't think are necessary as well.  I say go for it.

I definitely think we should add the glitch charts, but not red...green maybe? I don't think we should bother with standards either, it would take a lot of time to make them for very few people. It may also help with activity. Oh, and I'm all for getting rid of the flaps on the charts, they don't count for anything anyway  Tongue

That's a fair point. I personally don't want people to feel forced to complete a glitch timesheet if they are reluctant to do so, but I've included them on this preview due to the demand by some people. I think the decision to include them would be easier if MK7 had multiple licenses so that a player an save both a no glitch and glitch time, but because it doesn't, I understand why people may object to glitches on here and feel the way you do.

The news will still only include activity in the no glitch 3lap section.

Thank you to all who's given feedback so far.

Just saying that I would totally support having glitch charts added to the page. Also Supy, the great thing about having extra glitch charts is that people that don't want to play glitches don't have to feel obliged to do so. I see it more as a plus for people that already are competing in/already have competed in the glitch category of certain tracks.

My only problem is that I'm OCD and don't like having blanks on my timesheet, this of course is just a minor minor thing and doesn't matter.  I am very curious where my 3 glitch times would rank though!  Wink

I approve of adding these glitch charts just because I don't see why they shouldn't be. This may lead to a bit more activity on this game, which is something good.

Yeah, I must have tried 8 and I was told tell an admin if you wanted that XD

About the charts: I don't undersand the idea of Flaps on glitch tracks XD... Flaps could be on a different page?? Alright for me... Maybe a reference to the top 10 WW, I'd say, if there is 1... Why the WR page???

If there is a possibility of doing a glitch chart why not show where the glitches occur on a map like Mario Kart Wii does.

Don't see a page for beginner tips or videos or anything worth a damn on the main page other than ranks (ugh guys get it together...).

Just got this game obviously and don't want to go through a 64 page thread to find anything.

http://www.mariokart64.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1321991018

The section "General Tips and Hints for Newcomers" of the very first covers the basic mechanics that you need to know about for time trialing. You will need to combine different parts of karts to get the fastest times on all of the courses. These parts are unlocked randomly by collecting coins. To find the fastest combination on each track, you should check out the Wr history site (mkwrs.com/mk7).

The difference between this game and a lot of the older games is that the basic techniques are very easy. This makes that a lot of the tracks have specific parts of racing that you need to master if you want to become good at them. For example, Toad Circuit will need quickly charged MTs and tight race lines, while Cheep Cheep Lagoon demands great underwater driving and Rock Rock Mountains contains a lot of gliding. To master these techniques, I'd recommend watching videos of the current WRs and especially of past WRs on the Wr history site.

The layout in the picture is great, having the non-glitch up top and the glitch below (but choose a different colour, red is a no), and having a seperate section for Flaps is great too

There is a lot of information to be found on this board, too.

I'm not sure what you mean by "get it together". Some members have contributed a lot to the community by writing many guides and publishing them here. If it bothers you a lot that most of it is on the board rather than on the site, I'll be more than happy to have guides added to the site if somebody has enough time and patience to rewrite them in a nice format.
