I'm going to guess that this thing happens because of the game constantly wanting the character to be placed upright, with the tires firm on the ground. If you wheelie off of a slanted road and pull up, you end up pulling back far enough to where you hit an area on your character's hitbox that is designed to automatically place you back in an upright position. If you hop the exact frame you touch the ground, you end up hopping right when the game is trying to put your character back in its proper form, making you bounce backwards.

The different animation shapes created when a character tricks off of a ramp can also have really strange effects on the game (side tricking while moving in the opposite direction of the trick's movement will give you a much lower trick, and down tricks cause your character to get really low tricks when done up against a wall because of the animation going against the collision.)

tl;dr mkwii is fucking broken

I don't know if this has happened to anyone else or not (probably has) but one time on rDKM, I got a TC before the cannon and when I went through it seemed to delete the TC as normal, but when I landed on the ground I got the TC glitch! I didn't know that this existed at the time and I was pretty in awe. It deleted at the next lap cannon though.

First Chance to Play MKW

The Timer Glitch Myth
When the game came out hacking wasn't widespread for the first few months, however there were still a few cheated ghost times. One method was to use Powersaves to edit the save file with an impossibly fast time then upload it to the charts.

Since the cheated ghosts didn't move for long amounts of time, a rumour spread that these ghosts were caused by a "Timer Glitch" where you wait until 99'59"999 and then the timer rolls over back to 0 allowing you to finish with a very low time.

The rumour was pretty widespread, here are some posts and false articles about it:

Hidden Stats

This was actually discovered within days of the game coming out, in the Japanese community, since the stats appeared in

The first 7 stats are the stats we see in the game, but where did they get the last 2 from? Is it real, or is someone trying to play a joke on us? Could it possibly be from the Player's Guide? Does anyone here have the Player's Guide, and if so, can you check to see if it lists the character stats?

I kind of got the sense that these stats were never widely known about. Looking at GameFAQs it seems like it took until 2012 for these stats to be included in any guides. Maybe the Japanese community were skeptical of these stats as well. But now that this game has been hacked so much, these stats have been verified. Personally I always leaned towards believing these stats, since Funky's offroad handling bonus is kind of noticeable on rSL.
