Some notes:
-The only control options for the demo were Wii-Mote (MKWii Wii-Wheel style) and the Game Pad. The Game Pad has an option on the screen to switch gyroscope on or off. I saw someone trying to use Wiimote+Nunchuck but it didn't work.
-There is no auto/manual, it's combined as one. You can get MTs without hopping by holding a direction long enough. I doubt this technique would be useful for competitive play but who knows.
-The underwater driving has improved a lot since MK7 imo.
-The gliding is pretty similar to MK7 (no improvement).
-The controls are pretty smooth compared to MK7 and MKWii karts.
-I tried delay drift and it seemed like it worked. I can't say for sure though since I only played 10 minutes.
-I tried SSMTs and they didn't seem too effective. But I'm pretty sure they will be useful in the actual game.
-I tried hopping after MTs and it seems useful, like in MK7 and MKWii.

If this game supports classic and/or nunchuck then I think it would be a pretty good game for TT.

I played the demo, though only 1 track due to the number of people. It feels more slippery, like a cross between MKW and MKDD.

He says the game will support all previous control schemes. Though only Wiichuck, Wheel, and Game Pad were confirmed.

"It's a much improved version of MK7" is the same feeling I got when watching the Nintendo Direct video and the various demos on YouTube. To me it seems like the developers want to improve MK7 while bringing back good elements from the past games.

I'll be very happy if the game is smoother than MK7. Between MKW's wheelies and MK7's huge drops in speed whenever steering without a boost, I really feel like MK8 needs to bring smoothness back to the series.

Really looking forward to this game. Smiley

I hope a demo is eventually avalaible to play at some event in Italy, so that I can try it myself and share my impressions here like with MK7.

Nice info Cole.

I'm intrigued. There were a couple elements I don't enjoy about 7, but the main reason is that handheld gaming is just hard on my hands and fingers. So this looks enjoyable. If it doesn't support the the CC or other Wii controllers, that'd suck. Hopefully it has Wii U Pro support, I imagine it would. Just need to shell out an extra 50 dollars. >_>

Wii U Pro pad would be perfect for it since it is the controller that approaches the GC controller the most.

hearing that it is improved from MK7 sounds like good news since i was ok with MK7 for the most part. the thing that still worries me is if they're gonna bring back 1 player VS mode to play all the tracks in 1 shot. that was removed from MK7 and made running all tracks crummy.

Really only w/ lightning and shroom-saves for blue shells, imo; you still see (via warning box) other stuff coming on the display. 'Course, if they bring back DS-quality minimaps on the Wii U screen then you could have bottom-screen battles w/ someone who doesn't have that capability and beat them really brutally.


Well, the difference of getting the shock dodge, or don't get it seems enormous for your ending place

...Or, this will eliminate the off-the-track dodge altogether, as items could still affect you if you never get a location reset.

Yeah the initial flame is just visuals. The traditional blue and red sparks are what give the boost. Coins better not be returning to TT's. I might as well buy this game since I'm getting a Wii U to play with some of my friends in AC3/AC4/Smash Bros.

Perhaps the blue flame MT isn't programmed yet. I mean, tricks weren't in '7 back at 2011 E3.

No he gets boost from both blue and orange. Before the blue MT sparks up, there are just blue flames on the ground indicating a drift. Those are what people are talking about.

Well, I played the Best Buy demo today as Toad on his bike. The game plays pretty sweet at 60 fps and nice visuals. Bikes now has the blue and orange MT mechanics like karts do, there wasn't any wheelies from what I noticed in the demo. The gamepad is pretty comfortable to use, you can use traditional or motion controls, I went with traditional since another guy besides me was having trouble with motion controls. Also, I did try to attempt snaking, but it doesn't seem as useful as it was in MKDS and the drifting mechanics pretty much works like Wii's and 7's. Although, I do have to say that I am looking forward to this game, it pretty much plays like a more fast paced version of 7.

more fast-paced? I didn’t get that impression, I actually thought the demo ran in 100cc

I like MK7 so if it’s gonna be anything similar to it I’m gonna like MK8 as well, I just hope the Wii U’s pad isn’t a shittily made as Nintendo’s handheld consoles, or I won’t be able to play for long

I also have some footage as well. The gamepad was pretty comfortable to use and the controls are pretty much exactly the same as it was in the 3DS. The guy right to me seemed to have a lot of problems with Wii remote.

Weird, but I think that while seemingly 'maintaining' a drift, it's just a new mechanic allowing a new drift to start instantaneously after hitting a wall, so that the game flows more like mkdd (the other key thing is that the frozen time after being hit is much less).

if you hit the wall lightly enough, it seems like you can keep drifting, that’s gonna be interesting

there’s another video which shows this I think it was a Yoshi kart doing an LMT on the 3rd track in the turn exiting the inner part

haven’t seen bikes do such a thing yet, I wonder if karts are better for it?

Nowadays it's really not something big to put your hands on a game 2-3 days before its official release, almost everyone can do this.
