Actually it would made sense that they removed them now that I think about it, they were simply OP in MKW. They fixed wheelies as well. They might as well play identically to karts now.
Quick edit : Bikes have orange mini-turbos like karts now. Means the different vehicles are only cosmetically different now.
this all seems to be true after having watched a few gameplay vids
bikes do wheelie when you shroom, but I don’t know if that gives a speed boost or is just aesthetic; there might be some minor differences between bikes and karts but nothing substantial like in MKW, curious to see what WRs will end up using
I wish all characters had the same stats.

It looks like snaking will be this game's standard for TT'ing, unless they bring back the wheelie in its full strength.

After taking a quick look back at Mario Kart Wii's trailers (that I could find), as far as I can tell there is no reference to inward-drifting bikes either. You do see the Mach Bike, Flame Runner and Bullet Bike, but the only bikes you see actually drifting are outward-drifting bikes.
That could mean something, or nothing at all, but just because we haven't yet seen inward-drifting bikes doesn't mean there won't be any. Troy may be able to shed more light on that perhaps.
I was looking forward to MK8 being a return to MK for me - it was going to be one of the reasons I got a Wii U if at all - but now I'm not so sure. Still, it looks like a fun enough game regardless of how much of a bitch it would be to TT.

I think that's to try and eliminate all the glitches, by keeping lakitu and you on the screen. Will probably help, actually.

If anything shouldn't that prevent scs? The second you fly off you get dragged back on the track. It's like trying the GV shortcut on MKW where you shroom off the track to land near the end, but instead Lakitu wouldn't even let you shroom off, and also I'm pretty sure Nintendo can police the Wii U to patch any possible glitches

Really only w/ lightning and shroom-saves for blue shells, imo; you still see (via warning box) other stuff coming on the display. 'Course, if they bring back DS-quality minimaps on the Wii U screen then you could have bottom-screen battles w/ someone who doesn't have that capability and beat them really brutally.

I played the demo today (3 tracks). My initial impression is that it's a much better version of MK7. That's kinda good, but also kinda bad since I'm not really a fan of MK7.
Some notes:
-The only control options for the demo were Wii-Mote (MKWii Wii-Wheel style) and the Game Pad. The Game Pad has an option on the screen to switch gyroscope on or off. I saw someone trying to use Wiimote+Nunchuck but it didn't work.
-There is no auto/manual, it's combined as one. You can get MTs without hopping by holding a direction long enough. I doubt this technique would be useful for competitive play but who knows.
-The underwater driving has improved a lot since MK7 imo.
-The gliding is pretty similar to MK7 (no improvement).
-The controls are pretty smooth compared to MK7 and MKWii karts.
-I tried delay drift and it seemed like it worked. I can't say for sure though since I only played 10 minutes.
-I tried SSMTs and they didn't seem too effective. But I'm pretty sure they will be useful in the actual game.
-I tried hopping after MTs and it seems useful, like in MK7 and MKWii.
If this game supports classic and/or nunchuck then I think it would be a pretty good game for TT.
