Submission period should end in 2 hours guys, but since I only have my team's scores and BPA's, and I'm going to the airport and won't be around until later, the deadline is going to be extended 12 hours.

Please submit your times in the next 14 hours!

Just a reminder that the deadline is now in 5 hours and 45 minutes, and I still need a time from Lafungo and Mr. Nosey I think. Lafungo, you can send me an e-mail if you'd like, you can find the email address on my timesheet profile. Not the MB profile.

Damn, I completely forgot about this. I had uploaded a video of a bad-ish run I'd made earlier this week (unlisted), but annoying I didn't display the time on it anywhere, so I'm going to start tt'ing right now...

It's late so I'm not going to worry about the formatting too much...

Week 3 challenges:

Challenge 1 (to be completed by Shock, BPA, Lafungo):

It's our turn to do a Quick Run. 3 laps, items ON, coins OFF. 150cc. Whichever character suits you best. MKSC Rainbow Road. The twist: you must go backwards for 1 lap at some time or another. You could immediately go backwards in lap one or you could wait until you hit the final lap before you decide to turn around and do one lap backwards. (Reach the point where you last had zero or negligible forward momentum. If you don't clearly reach the point where you last had forward momentum, don't count it.) You are free to use any items as many times as you want, taking any shortcuts with shrooms as you want.

Submit the time difference between yourself and last place. If you finish 8th, you didn't successfully complete the challenge and cannot submit a negative score.

Challenge 2 (to be completed by Mick, flo233, Mr.Nosey):

Time trial mode with any character. Go to Lakeside Park. There is a lake behind and to the left of you at the start. You must race around the perimeter (the shallow water area) of this lake 2 times at some point in your time trial. The complete outside, shallow water portion twice. Note that of course you can do slightly more than twice if that is strategically advantageous. If you fall out of bounds or into the water for too long, basically if Lakitu grabs you, your run is disqualified.

You may use shrooms like a normal time trial. Like usual though, and same for those attempting challenges 1 and 3, no ZZMTs.

Challenge 3 (to be completed by Etch, TvK, Butterfree):

You also have a time trial with any character you please. Go to Broken Pier. The twist: this course to my knowledge has 3 "invisible" bridges. (They glow faintly and blue from time to time.) Go across each "invisible" bridge in the reverse direction. (i.e., go from the end of the bridge back to the beginning. You're basically going to be driving in loops.) To keep the challenge from being overly difficult, do not use any shrooms.

NOTE: THIS IS A DOUBLE POINTS WEEK. Even if your team is in last place, if you do well this week, you can win it all for your team if you complete a superior performance.

Last week's results and a couple video demos will be up tomorrow at some point.

Everyone have fun doing a lot of going backwards this week. Roll Eyes

No, maybe in future competitions though. Tongue

Week 2 Results

Challenge 1:

Shock: 21"40 (No video available, sorry. Set this time in the airport.)
BPA: 21"75 - 0.9839
Lafungo: 25"13 - 0.8516

Challenge 2:

Mick: 1'11"11 (Video)
flo233: 1'16"76 - 0.9264
Mr.Nosey: 1'18"38 - 0.9072

Challenge 3:
Etch: 18"18 (He says it's recorded, didn't send me a video though.)
TvK: 13"11 -0.7500 (Actual score around 0.72)
Butterfree: 12.58 -0.7500 (Actual score around 0.69)

Totals for week 2:

Team Etch-a-shock: (1.000 * 3)(1.000) = 3.0000
Team von Flow: (0.9839 + 0.9264 + 0.7500)(1.0337) = 2.7500
Team Free Noses: (0.8516 + 0.9072 + 0.7500)(1.1453) = 2.8733

Grand Totals:

Team Etch-a-shock: 6.0000
Team Free Noses: 5.8037
Team von Flow: 5.6521

Don't forget that this week is double points week! Even if your team is behind by a margin, it is possible to come back and take the whole challenge still if you perform very well and try hard!

Week 2 Challenges

Challenge 2:

Setting: Sky Garden, time trial, any character

Goal: Play a 3 lap time trial, but in every lap, hit every bumper/jumper! Do not use shrooms in this challenge. You may not use ZZMTs. You may use any character you want, but remember not to use shrooms, and play according to PP rules like usual.

Wait, according to that picture, Mick was along a blue path the whole way though?

Edit:

Quote:
<Mick>: and about my strat, we discussed long with Etch if it was allowed
<Mick>: apparently it is on MKSC but banned on MKDS
<Mick>: I think the confusion comes from here
<Mick>: you are the judge
<Shock>: if it is allowed on MKSC and our page clearly has your path marked in blue which I'm pretty sure it either explicitly does or it's heavily implied, your path should be allowed... but if it cost flo some potential seconds then... this should have been brought up publicly in the thread during the week

Not for me, he's driving a little backwards near the end. According to the picture, it's not clearly allowed for me, even if I don't see any reason to forbid it for this challenge.

Only BP seems to mention going backwards is forbidden.

One can easily make the argument that this is allowed on other tracks briefly to aid in lining up a shroom cut or jump.  Like others have mentioned the rules really should get an overhaul in terms of explaining what is specifically allowed or not.  Ironically, this route is useless as far as the site goes since you should be shrooming directly towards the finish line anyway.

As for my challenge, I have had quicker runs so it really depends on having slow computers.

^This.
I was a bit iffy with the strat at first too, I mean it is a very big strat change, but this is only the first test-run team challenge, so it's cool by me.

I didn't think this particular strategy would cause so much debate, and I didn't question it until Etch pointed me out (though I thought he was confused with MKDS rules to begin with). Also Shock didn't say anything when I showed him the video a few days ago.

I apologize for the trouble caused. Feel free to disqualify my time or make me replay the challenge if you want Shock !

I don't think it would be fair to disqualify your time Mick since I didn't say anything when I saw your video - the thought that it might break site rules didn't occur to me at the time.

I think it would be fair though if I gave flo and Mr.Nosey an additional period of time to resubmit their scores on this challenge with the knowledge that your strategy is in fact allowed.

If there aren't any objections then:

flo233 and Mr.Nosey:

You have been granted an additional 24 hours from the time of this post to resubmit your challenge from last week (Sky Garden). Whether or not you take advantage of this bonus is up to you.

Anyway i will decline the offer, i will not able to redo the challenge without copying the whole strat (boosts on the bumps that i don't do in my run) and this will not be fair toward Mick

I think it's better if I copy my original reaction that I typed on mibbit:
<Hutch>: WHAT THE FUCK DUDE SHOCK
<Hutch>: diiiiiiiiick
<Hutch>: I didn't see his post until now
<Hutch>: I can't tt tomorrow at all
<Hutch>: I have an 8:15 lecture, then at 1:30 I travel for 3 hours to go skiing in a snowdome, and I get back past midnight
<Hutch>: how fucking shit is that.

Sad
Bad timing, but yeah I'd feel guilty too sort of editing my strat and having extra time (I just spent two hours tt'ing sg normally after getting motivated from the challenge too). Yeah there is a little controversy, but as I said, it's cool, the strat is clever and this is only a testrun so things are good as they are.

Sorry, but honestly I am/was having a difficult time resolving this, since it seems no matter what I do to keep the competition as fair as possible, there is always some loss of equality; a perfect solution is escaping my mind. And obviously I can't go to the past to fix things so... Tongue

Do not skip portions larger than one kart's width into the deep water; in other words, keep at least a portion of a tire above shallow water at all times. You can hit the outside grass as much as you want, so long as Lakitu doesn't come and grab you for going out of bounds.

It's conpletely impossible because of the red wall, you have to jump entirely above the dark water to keep going...

I forgot to specify what time to submit in Challenge 3 this week... (Come on guys, help me out here and speak up when you see me make mistakes like this please!)

Submit a FAST LAP time for the Broken Pier Challenge.

Due to my incompetence, I will extend the deadline another 48 hours, in the event that I've been making 3 players race with the wrong goal in mind. I'll leave the submission period open now though.

So, you can submit times to me now if you wish, but you have until Noon on Tuesday EST (about 70 hours from now) until it closes.
