Yeah, no zoomstarts. Tongue

No, you don't have to hold on to the first lightning you get. You just need to pass into lap 2 in last place while carrying a lightning, and don't use that lightning or any other items in laps 2-4. Lap 5 you can do anything you want item-wise.

Some important clarifications:

1. In challenge 2, due to the nature of Quick Run, a time of 14"00 for example is much harder to achieve than a 13"00 score. The difficulty isn't nearly as proportional as it is in Time Trial mode. Therefore, unless I hear a good argument against it, I will be scoring by a difference of squares. (For example, if the top time is 10"00, and another scores 9"00, the 9"00 score receives (9)^2 / (10)^2 = 0.81 points.)

2. If you/your team does not submit a score by the deadline, you can still submit your time. Every 3 hours overdue is a raw point score penalty of 0.0100, and I will refrain from posting any team's results until all scores are in. (Note: 1 minute past the due time and date will count as a full 0.0100 point deduction.) If your team reaches a point of which you are 24 hours+ overdue, anyone on the team can complete and submit their time for the overdue challenge. If 48 hours pass from the due date/time, your team will receive a score of 0.7500 for that challenge.

3. The lowest anyone can score on a single challenge is 0.7500. If you get a raw score under this, you will get "mercy" bumped up to a  (raw) 0.7500 for your challenge. (Then I will multiply this by your team's QF.)

4. You ARE allowed to collaborate with your team members. You ARE allowed to attempt any of the three challenges, but you are not allowed to submit your time for the team if you are not assigned the challenge. (Unless you have reached a full day overdue.) Note also that you are allowed to submit a time on behalf of someone else on your team if you do know you have an accurate score achieved by them. You ARE allowed to share YouTube videos with your teammates and strategize together.

5. The time submission period opens on Saturday, October 13 at noon EST, and all times are due by Sunday, October 14th at noon. You can submit your team's times by PM to me, and you can submit as many times as you want in the submission period. I will take the best time that you submit, screenshot it, and share the result in this thread with everyone else's times.

Any questions, let me know, here or PM. Thanks.

Oh, and P.S.: ^ Mick is right. If I don't specifically restrict something, you are allowed to incorporate it into your run. Remember, race all tracks by PP rules, no lap skips, no ticking, the usual.

Reminder: Submission period opens in exactly 20 hours, and you need to turn something in the following 24 hours during the time submission period.

You can send me a PM of your best time as many times as you want during the submission period. In the end, I will take your best result of all PMs, not an average or something. So fear not and send away to me.

You can also submit times on behalf of your teammates if they can't make it to a computer or something during the submission period. Just make sure that you relay the correct time and be accurate etc.

The next week's challenges will be revealed either at the end of the submission period and when I receive a time from everyone.

Why can't we just submit our times anytime during the week ? I know Etch is away for today and maybe tomorrow so he may not be able to submit his own time himself.

I was trying to minimize the window of time a little bit so I don't have an unfair advantage by being able to view others' times and use it as a sort of motivation/goal to beat whereas everyone else is in the dark about it. Certainly Etch can tell either you or me his time anytime during the week though and you could submit that time at the very least on his behalf...

Yeah, I suppose I could, except for the PM preview... It'd be very difficult for me to just not see the times at all. Tongue Feel free to send over yours and Etch's time whenever then...

I have a time submission from everyone, so this week will wrap up in 2 hours and 15 minutes. If you improve your PRs in that time frame, you can still PM them to me. The next group of challenges should be up in 3 hours or so.

Week 1 Results

Challenge 1:

Shock: 1'02"76
BPA: 1'08"56
Lafungo: 1'30"81

Challenge 2:

Mick: 14"67
flo233: 13"50
Mr.Nosey: 12"19

Challenge 3:

Etch: 1'38"26
Butterfree: 1'40"50
TvK: 1'41"10

Week 1 Scores

Team Etch-a-shock: (1.0000 + 1.0000 + 1.0000) * (1.0000) = 3.0000

Team Free Noses (0.7500 + 0.8309 + 0.9777) * (1.1453) = 2.9304

Team von Flow (0.9154 + 0.9202 + 0.9719) * (1.0337) = 2.9021

All teams are within .1 of each other after week one! Lafungo might have been able to pull his team into first place this week if he had tried more than twice on his challenge and scored something under 1'21, but apparently SMK was calling his name, and instead he earns the "mercy" 0.75 points this week. BPA pulled off a strong run for the strategy he played the challenge with, but it was far from the optimal strat! His team also suffered a blow due to that, but they are anything but far from Team Etch-a-shock heading into week 2.

bc34fags was a bit more even scoring wise. Mick pulled off teh urn after multiple attempts and getting rough luck with opponents firing lightning and etc., and it was enough for him to comfortably win, finishing about 0.08 and 0.17 points ahead of his opponents respectively. Those attempting challenge two can breathe a little easier now too, for I guarantee that they don't have any more Quick Runs to complete in this contest. Tongue

Challenge 3 though was where the competition was the tightest. Utter came up clutch with his solid performance, offering a nice point boost for his team. Similarly TvK kept his time close to the winning time, and thanks to their performances, the competition heading into week 2 is pretty close!

Week 2 challenges coming up in about 15 minutes in my next post.

Week 2 Challenges

Challenge 1:

Setting: RBC3, time trial, any character

Goal: Get the fastest lap you can, with one restriction: you must hit the wall on the far side of the bumpers that cross the lava, then go backwards over the bumps and hit the wall on the other side. You may use shrooms, but no ticking or ZZMTs. You may attempt the flap on any lap.

Demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=be0tMYQX7IY&feature=youtu.be

Challenge 2:

Setting: Sky Garden, time trial, any character

Goal: Play a 3 lap time trial, but in every lap, hit every bumper/jumper! Do not use shrooms in this challenge. You may not use ZZMTs. You may use any character you want, but remember not to use shrooms, and play according to PP rules like usual.

Demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSgATJSaFvg&feature=youtu.be

Challenge 3:

Setting: Cheese Land, Quick Run (5 laps, no items, no coins, 150cc), any character

Goal: Play a 5 lap Quick Run on Cheese land. No ZZMTs or ticking allowed. No item restrictions. The only restriction is that you must play according to standard PP rules, and you must hit every mouse on the course at some point in the run. They can all be on lap 1, you can drive backwards in lap 1 to hit all of them, you can hit all of them in lap 5, 2 on lap 1 and the rest on lap 4, whatever. Every mouse though must be hit once by your character.

Submit the time difference between yourself and second place, not the time it takes you to finish the run.

Good luck! Again, any questions, post them here or PM me and I'll do my best to clarify.

Submission period opens October 20th at noon EST, closes October 21st at noon EST.

1'34"30 for Challenge 3 (RRR)

The best strategy I came up with. Driving is obviously suboptimal, but quite decent run overall.

If I implied that, I didn't mean to. No, #1 seeds in each team still play challenge 1, #2 seeds play challenge 2, etc. I'm trying to keep the competition relatively even for each challenge, so we don't have something like me versus Utter on a challenge, in which chances are low he'd even have a chance scoring over .75, and conversely, a #1 on another team facing another #3. That would mess up the accuracy of the Quality Factor I think...

Of course, as the first team challenge, I think this is a bit of a "guinea pig" competition, so maybe it wouldn't be terrible to test things out. I'd like at least a 2/3 consensus of the players before allowing anyone to play any of the three competitions this week.

Anybody else have some thoughts? For/against this idea?

Submission period should end in 2 hours guys, but since I only have my team's scores and BPA's, and I'm going to the airport and won't be around until later, the deadline is going to be extended 12 hours.

Please submit your times in the next 14 hours!
