It looks like an added speedboost... just like when you take the "aspiration" behind an other player and you make a blue or a red MT at the end the aspiration boost and you get an added aspiration boost combined with the blue or red MT boost!

If so this is what happened on MP too, it looks like a prolonged shroom boost I never tried it elsewhere, but it seems that this technique works when you hit a ceiling while you are shrooming and pressing down at the same time.
