IMPORTANT: How to send your times in(Take 37281)

I'm getting sick of messages that aren't postet in the right format. You know, this costs us so much time, and this update will be the very last update I'll format it for you. After this, I will ignore ANY submission that is not in the right format. This isn't only directed at newcomers, there are also players that are here for a long time and still don't know how to do it. Here's what you can do:

Title: The title doesn't matter, you can write anything there. But please don't put your name in the title, but in the message itself.

Message:

If you want to tell us a story or something, start with it and DON'T PUT TIMES in it. And please, post track and time in one line and one after another. And please put your FULL NAME in the submission. Here's an example how NOT to do it(I hope you don't mind that I take one of your messages as an example, Guillaume Tongue)

Quote:
Hi everyone,

Here are my latest BC2 efforts, I'm done with this course for a while:

1'02"83 / 19"23 (videos soon on YouTube and on the board)

I also gave a quick attempt to RKB2 and improved my flap to 7"42 in the
first try.

Thanks for including them to the next site update

Best regards,

Guillaume

So, what's wrong with this submission?

1. BC2 isn't in the same line as the corresponding times. That messes up the parser and I have to manually input the track.

2. RKB2 and the time are in the same line, but not one after another. That messes up the parser as well. Again, I have to manually input the track name.

3. "Guillaume" isn't your full name, is it? I don't know your last name by heart, so I have to look it up before I can finish the submission.

All in all, this submission would take me at least 5 minutes, even thought there are only 3 times in it. Which is pretty much a waste of my time, because if it was written correctly it would've taken me 1 minute. Please don't make it harder for the uptaters, such things really make the motivation go down. As I said, from now on I'll ignore submissions like this. Here's how he should have written his submission:

Quote:
Hi, I got new PRs!

BC2: 1'02"83 19"23
KB2: 7"42

I'm done with BC2 now and KB2 was only a quick attempt and got the time at first try

Thanks, Guillaume Leviach

If you have questions concerning your submissions, feel free to ask. I will also post this on the main page.

If you want to be 100% sure it's "parsable", just send in your times without text and use a new line for a new track. And add your full name.

In every message I've sent to any MK board, I've always laid out my submission with all 3laps, then all flaps, is this any slower to update? If it is, I'll format it this way instead if it's more helpful Smiley

I just copy my times out of an excel sheet and paste them into the submission,

so they look like this in the end

PC:      49"80      14"83
SGB:      53"75      15"64

in the yahoogroup the times always move a closer together, is it fine like that or how can I make your life more enjoyable  Smiley

You didn't explain why we have to write submissions like this ? Is there something done automatically to transfer the times into the players' page ?

EDIT : sorry, I read your message again, I didn't understand the word "parsable" the first time... ^^

The feeling of being a world champion is intoxicating, and I didn't want to ever not be the world champion again. Then I realized it didn't matter that much since I had nothing more to prove and achieved my most important goal(s).

No that's not really a problem, though I wonder why you do it that way, doesn't that cost you more time? You can do it either way.

No that's perfectly alright, no problem whatsoever.

Yeah there's a parser that fliters track and times, but it fails easily if you don't submit in the correct manner Wink

Thanks for your attention anyway everyone Smiley

Yea, the parser seems to only like when times are listed together. For me, as long as the times are listed with the track initials (like BC1: 59.99 / 9.99 or something similar) and I know who is submitting it/how to spell the name, then it's usually fine -- just keep in mind, it may possibly be the case that not all the times updaters know your actual name (ex: there might be people who just know Guillaume as Mario86) or how to spell your name (ex: I've been on the SMK PP since 2006 and still have to look up how to spell Karel's name lol).
