Problems with registering/reactivating an account

Hi, my friend is having some problems with making a new account or getting the forgotten password for his old one:

"1. The reset password link doesn't open
2. When I try to register again, it says the verification code has invalid characters when it clearly doesn't

Also, the error when I try to register says "Error: Verification code contains invalid characters. Only a-z and 0-9 are valid""

What can be done to avoid this?

A lot of people are putting in 0 as the answer. This error comes up when you get it wrong.
