How do you PR?
01/10/12 at 14:44:19

I was just wondering...
Do you PR alone and you just check your time at each lap just to see if you made a good lap or not?
Or do you rather prefer racing a better ghost or your own ghost just to know if you are beating him or not?

As far as I'm concerned, I feel very stressed when I'm PRing against my own ghost. So I prefer using the best ghost I have (even if it's my own ghost) at first, to get used again to every trajectories, but also to the splits I should get to beat my time and then race alone and try to get a PR.
But, I could sometimes race an other ghost when it's about 2 or 3 seconds better than mine (like on BC or MP) so that I know where I've done something wrong in my run that I didn't know or if I'm too far from the ghost to get a PR. Smiley
When I feel like I could beat that ghost, I'm just not racing it because I would be too stressed when I'm ahead of it and would undoubtedly make a mistake. Also, I can't get good trajectories when I can't see precisely when the wall or the sand is because of the ghost. x)

Anyway, what's your usual way to PR?

Race a Ghost thats .5-1 second faster than my time.

That way the whole TT isn't "Staying ahead of my own ghost" but instead "Keeping up with this guy."

Though it sucks when you run out of fast ghosts. I usually get very nervous racing my own ghost so I just go solo, But since I always check the split after each lap I get nervous after good laps anyway.

1. Wait in TvK's toilet
2. Wait until he gets a WR while shitting
3. Stab him with the 3DS Pen
4. Claim that time to be yours

Get a bad time, then improve it bit by bit.

Usually solo if I'm sure of the strat, my lap times just seem to get better after a while, I'll race against my ghost sometimes, or a great/challenging ghost I receive at times.

But I usually race against bad ghosts, just for the music pick-up.  Smiley

Solo. Ghosts can be annoying and get in the way, though they really help in this game thanks to random speed loss (happens frequently when I'm behind my ghost on a straight then magically catch up with it).

- I go on the WR channel to see the strat.
- I spend my hands under the water.
- I play in a fixed position to avoid moving.
- I play against a better ghost. I can't play with my own ghost, i hate... Cheesy

But after the game hurts my hands because of stress and buttons of the 3DS... Angry

Ya for some reason my left index finger hurts really bad after a long session and it seems to take a few days to feel better.  Not sure why, must be the poor grip.

As far as I'm concerned, my right thumb and second finger hurt a lot everytime I play but my left hand is really fine.

I have no problem with my left hand, but when I play for many hours in a row, the part between thumb and index finger of my palm peels off, same for the top of my middle finger and my thumb hurts

as far as staying IT… I’ve never had the chance to race any ghost faster than me, but I always race my ghost except recently while playing LR it got in the way so I stopped using it there, it does get annoying when you think you had a good lap but the split sucks though :/ feels like KB2 Flap in MKDS

I've been starting out racing my own ghost. This allows me to focus on experimenting and creating my own strats. I really enjoy doing that, rather than just trying to copy the fastest vids or ghosts. It's also a better learning experience.

If I struggle to get a decent time just racing my own ghost, then I race other, faster ghosts to see what I can improve on.

Once I get a full timesheet, I think I'll mostly race other ghosts. I like the 7 ghosts, especially when my ghost is 1 of them.

I easily prefer playing with a ghost, especially if it's my own. The only time that "pressure" really can get to me is when i'm ahead of it, when it's on top of me or in front of me, it helps me push for the right trajectory, and helps my consistency. As well as show exactly when I have lost too much time (not because of the "magic speed loss" that some other people talked about, lol)

Edit: Forgot to mention it helps learning where to optimize your run. Of course you get progressively better at a track just by playing it more, but I feel like racing my ghost helps the process along by a lot.

As for the pain things... I only have the issue I also had with the original DS, which is that I tend push down the A-button rather hard, which can leave a mark if I have a really long session (some may remember me breaking my DS this way, lol)

what I find funny is that when my ghost is ahead of me, I take more risks and usually get better laps than I would if I had it behind or didn’t have it at all

Exactly Smiley

This is also why I hate ghosts that start out weak, but finish strong because they make you ease up on your lines, and then destroys you the last 30 seconds. A ghost with a strong start, but weak ending is so much more useful Smiley

Solo, ghosts make me drive bad

At first I look when I got my last PR, when I see it´s long time ago, I try to get a lap 1

Most of the time it´s much better, then I try to get a 3lap

If it´s bad I try, till I got a good time for me, then I go back to step 1

I always use ghosts.
Opposite to alaktorn, if I'm behind, I generally drive more aggressively, and go quicker, but if I PR ends me up with a bad ghost to race again.
I tried tt'ing solo in mkwii once or twice, but I drove really badly consistently Tongue

TT in MKW is different from MK7 TT. I think we could compare MK7 TT to MKDS TT... as MKW TT is just based on luck wheelies and all these stupid stuffs.

Please, only post if you know anything about the things you're going to write.

Comparing MK7 with MKDS is... I don't have any words for that, really. And what you said about MKW isn't true as well. You only said bad things about MKW, because you're bad at it, am I right? I guess.

I'm just talking about the way to play the game!
I've been TTing MKDS, MKW and MK7 and I know how I like to PR for each game. This is just my point of view, it doesn't need to be yours.
I'm just saying I prefer playing with a ghost on MKW because of all the luck wheelies etc, so that I know when I failed one or when I succeeded one. I'm not saying I'm a pro a this game at all. And I was comparing MK7 to MKDS because I used to PR without any ghosts because they were really too stressful to me... just like on MK7.
That's all.
