some questions

hello guys,, I would appreciate it if someone can clear some things out for me Smiley

I'm playing GP at the moment to unluck some stuff and ehh how to say,, you
know when a player sometimes gets the blue sparks around them and drives
quite a lot faster than normal (it's also in mkwii but I don't know a lot about that
game either),, what is it and when does it come up? It seems kinda random to
me but Im sure you guys know better than me..
also, is it true that you still unlock stuff after 5000 coins? I'm currently somewhere
near 3000 and still haven't unlocked the B-Dasher & Barrel Train.. I would like
to get them (looks like B-dasher is supposed to be ~the best and Barrel Train
is very obvious why I want it xD),, but it would be a pain in the ass when I'm at
5000coins and still don't have them..
another mkwii thing,, which is better in a turn.. 2 blue MTs or 1 red? or does it just
depend on which turn? I guess it's the same as in mkwii but like I said, I'm not very
familiar with that game..

and a suggestion,, can someone please complete the 'course guide' in the first post
of topic 'course strategy and discussion'? I guess it will be very usefull for noobs
like me

thanks in advance guys Smiley

The last random part is at 4500 coins, 5000 coins is always beastly glider I believe.
Drifting technique in this game is hop straight, then delay moving the control stick until just before landing.
Blue and Red MTs can be charged faster by angling the kart inwards, i.e. pushing the c-pad into the turn, so MTs are charged fastest in a sort of mkds way of zigzagging the circle pad left and right, rather than holding it static.

Looks like drafting/slipstreaming to me. Happens when you stay behind another kart for about 2 seconds...
Red mt's are faster but they are not necessarely the best as the boost can make you take worse lines. It's situational.

-  You could be talking about drafting, which Mick touched on.

-  Or, you could be talking about those sparks from performing a mini turbo.  If you press the R button, your kart will hop, and on a good turn, you'll eventually see those blue sparks.  The tighter the turn is, the faster the sparks come.  It's a timed effort, unlike MKDD, which didn't have the hopping system.  Plus, you don't have to turn the joy stick back and forth in this game.

-  You unlock kart parts by collecting certain numbers of coins in Single Player or Online Play (the totals from each are combined into one number).  Once you reach a certain number, you unlock a randomly selected kart part that you don't have yet.  So it's hard to say exactly when you'll obtain the B Dasher or the good ole Barrel Train, but you will eventually once you reach 5000 coins (I've heard). Smiley

-  Yes you do unlock more hidden goodies after 5000 coins, but let's keep that a secret.   Wink

-  That really does depend on the turn.  I just jumped into RLR and tested this out.  I chose B Dasher, Slick Tires, and Metal Mario.  I was also careful to avoid anything else that gives me extra speed.  RLR has two large circle turns.  On Lap 1, I performed one red mt on each circle turn.  On Lap 2, I performed two blue mts on each circle turn.  These are the times I got:

Lap 1 (two red mts):  42.213
Lap 2 (four blue mts):  43.295

... so I would conclude that these times are in the margin of error.  I could've driven slightly worse on Lap 2, or the boost start could've helped Lap 1.  I'd say they're close enough to allow me to say that Two Blue MTs = One Red MT.

Hopefully this helps.  Let us know if you have any further questions.   Smiley

Lol didn't read the opening post properly -slaphead- Tongue
Yeah, the slipstream in this game is more powerful than in mkwii, and I hope he appreciates the MTing tips anyway Tongue

Actually, the only stuffs you need to have are Zucchini, Blue7, Bdasher, egg1 and perhaps Bruiser for kart
Wooden wheels, slick, gold, red monsters, monsters and mushroom wheels
And super glider and paraglider. Smiley
If you have all that, I don't think you'll need anything else. Smiley

I'll just add onto that, that the two monster tyres are (practically) interchangeable (basically same stats), as are gold and slicks (automatic unlock gold after 1 star in each cup each cc), and bdasher, zucchini, bruiser are all equally fast (same speed stat), but bdasher is a tad slower offroad, and the handling for each kart is slightly different.

I'll just readd onto that, that gold have a better drift handling than slick, same for monster compared to red monsters imo.
Apparently zucchini is a bit less fast but it's just Mick's opinion. and the Blue7 is a bit easier for drifts compared to BDasher. Tongue

You should be just fine once you reach 5,000 coins. Cool

Like said above, the fastest (and most used karts for TTs) are the Zucchini, Blue 7, BDasher, and a few others.  Then, your choice of tires will most likely depend on the track you're working on itself (the terrain, and what types of grounds you might be cutting with a shroom).

Most of us can't necessarily comment on what you unlock after that.  This is because it takes a whole lot of time and coins to get them.  However, I do have the information.  I'll post the exact details below in another post.

Warning:  Spoilers Below

Highlight the text below if you'd like to read.

Stuff you unlock after 5,000 coins:

Gold Glider: Make 100 Street Pass connections, or collect 10,000 coins.  This glider is identical in stats to the standard 'Super Glider' you start with in the game.  So, it's not that big of a deal, besides the fact that it's 'golden'.

Gold Tires: Beat all of the cups in Grand Prix (some will say you need to get at least a Single Star Rank on each, but that's the lowest rank achievable, so it doesn't matter) or collect 15,000 coins.  Definitely go for completing all of the GP cups instead.

Gold Tires' Stats (Compared to Standard Tires'):

Speed:  +1 Land, -1 Sea, 0 Air
Acceleration:  -.5
Weight:  +.5
Handling:  -1.25 Land, 0 Sea, -1 Air
Off-Road:  -2.5
Mini-Turbo:  0
Stability:  0
Drift:  -1

Gold Kart:  Obtain 10,000 VR points online, or collect 20,000 coins.  This is the most difficult unlockable in the game.

Gold Kart's Stats (Compared to Standard Kart's):

Speed:  +.5 Land, 0 Sea, -.25 Air
Acceleration:  -.25
Weight:  +.25
Handling:  0 Land, 0 Sea, 0 Air
Off-Road:  -.5
Mini-Turbo:  -.25
Stability:  +.5
Drift:  -.25

Are these worth struggling to unlock?  Probably not.  I don't think the stats will make a difference on the times.  If anything, the gold stuff is for show... as far as I know.

I played some more and came up with 2 more issues..

first is,, is it possible (so yes, how?) to erase some ghosts, or to have more than 1 ghost per
course? My girl wants to play as well every now and then but not against my ghost. So is
there a way to make a new ghost (with or without saving it). I don't really need my ghosts
atm so just erasing the current ones would be fine as well.
second one,, I've read streetpass-ghost in a lot op topics but just a simple question, how can
I recognize which ghost is a streetpass-ghost, and which isn't?

cheers Smiley
