Interesting Computer Glitch In GP Mode

IDK how to describe it, but I was playing Star Cup 50CC (this is my first time playing the game since around release time, and I need to unlock most of the stuff), and the race was Mushroom City.  I was leading by a fairly good amount going into lap 2 when I noticed Baby Mario's icon on the player map was not moving. So I go over to where he is and he's just sitting there driving into a wall. Eventually after like 5 seconds he turned around and shroomed into the other wall on the other side. I kept watching him do this for like 20 seconds before I decided to finish the race. On the results screen, his total time for the race was almost 20 minutes.

Has this happened to any of you before? I've never seen anything quite like this happen to me on an MK game, but it happened on this one only two days after I started playing it. I'm guessing this is something that happens rather commonly but I'm still curious to know. Thanks.

For those of you that don't know me, I mainly play MK64 and MKW.

I remember seeing a video of the same thing in MK64 on Youtube, I'm going to go look for it.

Found it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jR2Blcs84Mg&feature=related. A bunch of related videos have the same thing.

I'm guessing it happens somewhat rarely, but is probably possible in every game if a certain amount of things happen that screw up the AI to thinking they are somewhere else on the track. Never happened to me personally though throughout all 7 games.

Seems like N64 BC is a very glitchy run! Roll Eyes

I've seen it happen a few times in MK64 (but not MKDD).

Usually it's at the BC spiral but I know I saw it on RR also (and the computer racer's time came to over 10 minutes!)

More helpful than anything since it's one fewer opponent to deal with if you're trying to win gold.

A glitch with just the opposite effect can also happen in MK64, unfortunately: a computer racer in first place in 150cc may speed away from the pack and become uncatchable without the use of a SC (apparently the game mistakenly puts the leading racer into perpetual "catchup mode", in which it's capable of driving speeds the human player can never reach... also known as "rubberbanding", and is highly observable in MK64 GPs) That happened to me on KTB, I believe it was.

The AI in MK64, as I've observed, is just plain quirky all over (though I'd go to the MK64 board to describe it in more detail)

The computer racers in the other Kart games, such as this one, don't seem to be as glitchy. Or weird.

Hahaha yeah I remember a race with Arno where the CPU was blocked on a barrier. I hit him with a green shell to save him but he finished in 6mn. Smiley

I've actually seen this happen in MKDD, on the exact same course, Mushroom City. I forgot which character it was. I suspect maybe it's happening because the CPU someone gets "lost" within the different routes of the course.
