Overall, I'd say the game is a disappointment. I was expecting the mistakes of MKW to be ironed out but they clearly weren't, and in my opinion the item rape online is just as bad as in MKW.

Definitely true that TTs were pretty much abandoned in favour of wifi or whatever, and most of my qualms regard this part of the game. Simple things like the retarded replay options just take so much from the game in my opinion. How they chose replay options which didn't allow you to see as if you were driving is beyond me. Most of the new tracks are quite creative but I prefer TTing the more traditional tracks and most of my favourites are the retro tracks.

Regarding GP, it's completely dumb how nothing is unlocked in 50cc, 100cc, and mirror. Some of the vehicle customisations should be unlocked in these GPs as it's just a bore to play them otherwise.

Positives: The addition of coins is a positive measure I think, although for TTs I'm not convinced. The new courses are pretty mediocre, but better than MKW I guess.


Overall, a let down. I'll probably still play a little but I'm already pretty bored.

It's not so much the item rape I hate so much, it's the cascading effect from all the players behind you when you get hit by one single item. There is nothing more aggravating than recovering from a banana/shell and getting pushed off the track just be merely being in the way, let alone the assortment of bombs and circulating shells people have behind you.

But actually, I find the most irritating part of the game is that you can't reasonably start TTing out of the box. Once I manage to finally unlock everything I need to actually start TTing, I don't think I can even imagine in the future should I need to replace my 3DS or my data gets erased.

Other than that though, I really like it.

Probably. I played MKW only briefly. Overall, I think mk7 is way better than mkw, but not quite as good as mkds.

This thread isn't designed to deter people, but obviously I'm speaking from the standpoint of an experienced karter who cares about the quality of the game. Worst MK I've played probably. It's MKW but coins replace bikes and thunderclouds/POWs are replaced by tanooki tails/fireflowers.

Uh oh... I asked for a 3DS for Christmas, and I already know that my parents have bought it.  I know I'll be getting this game regardless, but if my opinion matches everyone else's, I probably won't play MK7 very much

Are there any other 3DS games worth getting?

Edit: As for virtual console games, I strongly recommend donkey kong for the gameboy, that game is still great. And link's awakening for the gameboy color of course

Yeah DK is really good. Sooooo much better than the DK game for NES that you got with the ambassador program LMAO. It was a bit easier than I remembered it as, but I guess i'm also much more experienced as a game now

(also better than mario vs. donkey kong which I got with the ambassador program now too. Though I guess that game is alright and I have only tried the first 3 levels. Current impression is still worse than donkey kong for GB though )
