Nearly two weeks in, what do you think?

If I were to sum this game up, I'd say "a little disappointing". I had such high expectations, especially after MKW, and I don't feel it has delivered. It's even more annoying because I was similarly excited for MW3 after all the problems blops had, but I think MW3 is an even worse game. This game just feels like a rehash of MKW's kart system, slightly altered to feel a bit less awkward, and with better kart/terrain interaction. Other than that, what has really changed? Coins are a great addition IMO, but it does nothing to counteract the shortcomings. For starters the lack of self charge MTs makes me think we will never see another MK with them in... They are not absolutely necessary, but the game feels a bit slow and laboured without them, especially with drifting like this which is far too outwards and not so forward and outwards like in MKDS. The lack of features is surprising as Nintendo are known for their innovation and this is terribly disappointing, it feels in many ways like a step back from MKW, even though the 3DS is a pretty powerful bit of kit. Even down to the sloppy and ugly menus, it's just off putting. Lack of flaps, stored top fives, proper replays and online leaderboards make me not want to TT, hence why I've only really played one course properly. Some of the new tracks are horrible, that stupid music one being my least favourite. It just doesn't flow well and doesn't work in a vs environment. This brings me onto... online. Like I said in the other thread, I find online a complete joke. There seems to be no incentive to play it as VR is irrelevant and not a measure of skill but more so about time played. There are too many items for eight player races, and the chance element has skyrocketed. I'm disappointed they didn't fix recovery - I fucking hate it when I've been blued, landed, and my character is still flailing his arms around in despair for another half second preventing me from getting back into the race. It may seem trivial but this drives me up the wall. If that time is really necessary then give me more airtime. Also, not only should the blue shell still have wings, but whoever thought that the blue shell should knock you in a random direction should be fired. This is flat out unfair to the unlucky soul who goes to the outside of the track to avoid being hit by passing players and the blue shell chucks him over the edge. Great idea, really. Tanooki tail is retarded, as is the fireflower as it's just a case of spam and hope. The 7 item is a nice idea terribly executed, it has no place in MK. The unlock system is stupid and time consuming and I think they could have done a much better job. Again I don't think Nintendo understand the concept of balance regarding karts competing vs each other (from a TT perspective). It's all about speed 90% of the time and I don't like feeling restricted on the characters I can use. And who the fuck is Honey Queen? Where are the classic characters we actually want to use? Why not have 32 characters, is that really such a problem? Lack of missions, personal statistics, balanced and fun online, smooth and easy feel, missions etc has left me barely motivated to play the game, which is such a shame as I've been waiting for over a year just to have a fresh and new MK game to play. I don't give a fuck if Nintendo say they were rushed, I'd rather wait 6 months for an absolute gem if it's something I'm going to be playing down the years. Fucking corporate bullshit, it's pathetic. The gaming industry sucks right now, no one gives a shit about the quality of the actual game. To sum up, the honeymoon is definitely over and the only thing I find fun in MK7 is Waluigi Pinball.

..........

PS sorry for lack of paragraphs, didn't realise this was going to be so long...

Edit: Only good new features are coins and graphics.

I agree with your post. Your Waluigi Pinball TT record is the only one I enjoyed watching. No offense to others who like other aspects of the game, just being honest  Smiley

Agreed. I've played I think once in the past week. It's just not fun. It lacks. I don't see myself competitively TT'ing, lack of Mission Mode/Tournaments is severely disappointing, the online extras they added are lackluster, and the unlock system is just plain stupid.

It wouldn't surprise me if I don't pick it up again for a few weeks/months/ever.

I like the game, but suck too much to be competitive in TTs… and after having unlocked everything I lost some motivation to play online too

if you don’t like it now, I wonder what you’ll think when ticking and mystery boosting will become normal Smiley

just read your post and I agree the new items are pretty much useless, but I have fun playing the game and like many tracks, most of the ones I don’t are retro from MKW

That's something I definitely disagree with.  Those are two features that I almost never played in the past games they were in, and I would have no interest whatsoever in them making a return.

Ya this game sucks, I mean I'm already so annoyed of online, because with enough luck even my little brother could get 1st in a race...Nintendo failed at making a "balanced" online. I mean, it's even worse than MKW kind of...luck wise.

Then there's tt, which is at the moment still okay for me, but I doubt I'll be playing this game anymore in like 2 months...just not enough motivation, because the mt system is so linear, I really doubt it weill still be interesting in some months. The only reason I'm sitll playing atm is probably because I want to stay German Champ, lol.

I dunno. It's just very average.

Not really liking online. TT's is alright, but not something I'll dedicate a lot of time to, I'll just try to get PR's every now and then. Though I vastly prefer to play on a console than a handheld, that may be one of the reasons I'm not digging it so much.

After playing MKW for three years, I find MK7 to surpass its brother by quite a bit. The online is much more balanced than MKW's since the Shock—which utterly ruled the online play on the Wii version—and the Bill—which was disgustingly powerful on MKW also—have been finally tamed. The race no longer radically changes when the Shock comes, there are less dodging items, there are no Thunderclouds, no Mega Shrooms... God, MKW was such a party game piece of shit.

The reason they took out the stand-turbo was to force variety upon us. After MKW's debacle—flame runner, mach bike, bullet bike were only vehicles used in the game—Nintendo realized that the stand-turbo forced us to pick mindlessly the fastest combo and call it a day. Now we have a plethora of options  that don't make us look like we are members of a character-vehicle cult—Funky-Flame WW's anyone?

I agree with you on the TT argument: Nintendo really did miss the mark there. I have no idea what they were thinking when they decided to not put leader-boards in the game. Just another instance in which they ignore the hardcore gamer.

I believe the track selection is the best out of all MK's, and online play finally favors frontrunning since it is so hard to catch up and the shocking-evading strategy is no longer all-powerful. I am also happy with the eight players online because it eliminates the win-the-lottery-twelve-people-ww's-where-any-player-can-win part of the game. Sure, Blues in MK7 can be plentiful and annoying, but so they are in MKW. Serial, the latter averages two, sometimes three, and I have been in races where five Blues have struck. I have only seen a max of two Blues in MK7 per race.

After playing MKW for three years—only a handful of people played as much Wi-Fi as I did—I welcome MK7 with open arms. The game is far from perfect, but the luck aspect has been toned down significantly as to give the best player the advantage again, while still retaining the chaotic charm that all MK's are known for.

In the end, after many fights and broken china, MKW and I ended our affair in hateful terms; I believe MK7 and I can make it work.

^^^^^This

Though, the game is missing a lot of features and definitely feels rushed... *prays for tons of DLC*
However, I am enjoying the online more than mario kart wii's at least for reasons stated above. It's nice seeing a wide range of characters/vehicles compared to mkwii where you were at an extreme disadvantage if you didn't use mach bike or flame runner.

I think the coin system is really shitty...
For some reason, I enjoy TTing on that game which is weird as I usually prefer playing wifi than TT...
Perhaps it's because I've started playing the game when he just came out.
I don't really like this luck we need to have on RR to get a good run though...

I agree with the lack of features.  I wish they had a new mode or something.  And the ghost replays kind of bug me.  Can you just pick a ghost and watch a replay of it?  And no leader boards is disappointing to me too, but there were people who said MKW would have been better without them.

I like the 7 ghost race.  And I also like being able to see the items everyone has.  You can see when people get blues and shocks and you can watch where items bounce.  It makes me feel like looking at the bottom screen is this game's version of looking backwards in MKW.

I still prefer MKW for now, but since I enjoyed MKW so much I'm sure I would have said that no matter what.

This. I generally like the tracks in this game (I disagree with RRM being among the better ones though Tongue). Most mkw tracks were really bad.
Don't really understand how you can be disappointed after mkw btw.  Huh

Edit: Also puzzled as to how everyone but me thinks there is more luck involved online now than before. Did everyone only play in crap rooms or something? MKW were easily just as ridicilous... Or maybe this was only the case for bullet bikers... Or are people just being so used to the "polite play" mantra mkw players had, that they simply forget what can be done to people?

Even with "polite play" did people never experience item rape from 1st to 12th in that game or something? I know I did. And it seemed far more random with the bullet bills and stars that would come from everywhere. I rarely get combo'd that hard in this game. The complaints about the item rape being worse here seems (to me) as silly as the complaints about the 7 item being broken because it gives you 7 items (where only one of them is really good). I'd take the goldshroom or a shock over the 7 any day. The only slightly good thing about it is that you can potentially get a star in second or something, but even that isn't really gamebreaking.

I don't mind having top tens, but not being able to download the fastest worldwide or regional ghost is extremely frustrating, and that what we get from spotpass is good or bad is totally based on luck.
As for wifi, I do enjoy it, but the blue shell is AWFUL, for reasons said before.
Basically, I'm surprised every keeps on saying it's better than mkwii - I enjoyed mkwii wifi better, but maybe thats because I didn't use it as much as everyone else.
Coins in TT are a new aspect, but I don't see myself being interested in it for too long.
A rushed game (I'm still laughing at the A button that does work for the friends list Tongue), but it's going okay for now.

idk about the blue shell, it just takes people to start handling it like it was done in mkds. You can see when people get it and even still hold back if they fire it right away (I believe it first locks on to you when the beeping sound starts). I think people need to get used to simply let the guy with the blue or the nearest guy with a shroom take 1st. In a race with only good players this shouldn't really be as much of a problem for the guy in first unless they have the mentality about it that alaktorn does Tongue (shroom in 2nd and 3rd place seem very common too)

Actually this aspect makes the blue actually interesting/useful for the guy picking the item up for once.

I believe the blue targets onto the person who is first when the blue shell is first fired.
Because of no standstill miniturbo, it's good that heavier faster characters are used for tt, and lighter characters and better acceleration vehicles are used on wifi, so all combos are used more roundly.

I can assure you that the blue shell does NOT lock on to you when it is fired in this game. I've stopped after seeing a blue being fired quite a few times and seen it go past me. I first realised this when sun wolsi stopped and I just kept going past him carelessly because I knew the blue had already been fired and shouldn't target me, but it did Wink

Edit: And standstill miniturbos being out is a good thing, yeah. The heavy bikes in mkw were superior in every other way already and their standstill miniturbos negated the one advantages the lighter bikes had over them (standstill wasn't even useful with bullet bike most of the time)... It's also good because toad is awesome and deserves to be top tier again - mkw also sucked for being the only mariokart where toad was just shit. Tongue
