What can we do to draw more attention to MKSC / PP

TSIA. This is definitely one of the best MK games, and it is sad to see roughly 175 people on the site and to see the site not growing at all.

So my question is, what could we possibly do to get more attention to the PP? I've got some ideas, but I would like to know other peoples' views and ideas on the matter.

- Addition of SC charts? If those were added then I know SC players that we could most likely recruit, and since the PP rules are the main ranking, they would eventually be motivated enough to compete on the universal ranking, hence completing a PP timesheet.

- Addition of nonZZMT rankings? ZZMT is what initially made some of the world's best karters (see Su, for example) quit the site. Having a ZZMT-only based ranking system, as well as ZZMT-based standards really is unfair to people who don't have the option to order a triwing screwdriver and risk destroying their system just so they can compete within the top10 and actually have a chance at WR's.

- Hyperlink videos to the players' individual times? This meaning that when they submit a time, they could submit a video URL and the times on their timesheet could be hyperlinked to the video.

- An individual YouTube channel dedicated to the MKSC PP? In all previous attempts, it was only one person and the channel eventually was no longer updated. The WRVids YouTube channel is rarely used anymore (not to mention nearly was deleted recently), and is a big jumble of different games, which causes people to lose interest.

- Find a way to advertise the MK PP's on competitive websites such as Cyberscore and VGR? These websites in particular are extremely active and would most definitely get people coming to the PP more often.

- Link a user's nickname and MK timesheet(s) together? That way if someone sees "Michael Fried" for instance, and they only know his nickname of "mjf314", and they know that the user "mjf314" holds World Records on several tracks, they might not know who Michael Fried is and lose interest, or even view the PP as illegitimate.

- Clear up any issues on the PP rules? There are some instances where the rules are a bit blurry and even some of the veterans make mistakes with them (YD flap comes to mind).

Good suggestions.  I think the main target should be to encourage people who have set times on at least one game to submit times on other games.  Maybe the only way to do that is to make more of a being deals out of the combined rankings which aren’t used that often.  Before MK7 came out I think there was about twenty-nine players with times on all six games.  How the combined ranks could be used to encourage more activity across all the games I don’t know, but its an idea.

Short of that we could encourage new users by uploading more personal videos to youtube at all levels of karting with links to the player’s page.

MKSC is getting released on VC for 3DS soon i believe, this may be aa good chance to revive some players who used to own the game. Addition of actual SC rankings may help aswell, where anything goes then the actual WRs there can be logged somewhere.

Yea, the 3DS VC version will probably bring more people. I think this idea is fabulous too, if Alex has a way to do it on the site:

When I'm active in any MK game, I like seeing vids that are just slightly better than mine, to try to help me improve. (I don't know if anyone else does that though lol.)

@ Clark: the site very likely suffered in popularity from Gaff's decision (of having a Champion on the site that isn't fully trusted by a significant portion of the community) and the uproar that followed (be that justified or not).

And the situation will continue to have a negative effect for as long as Gaff, Hahaha, MVT and you are gonna keep making begrudging posts about the current solution; begrudging comments like the one posted by you just above, but also the "bitching cunts" remark from Haha earlier in the week for example.*
Therefore I found it remarkably ironic that Hahaae is now coming up with this topic on how to give the site a better image to make it more attractive.

My first pointer to Hahaae would be to start looking at yourself and refrain from posting with such an attitude from now on. If anything, it will make people more reluctant to jump into this community.

Of course you could reply by saying the proportion of players that were opposed to Gaff's decision so fervently (the bitches, crybabies, what have you) also damaged the image of the site in a similar way. However it turned out roughly half of the people who cared did not trust the site champion, that alone at least justified the ongoing debate at the time. On the contrary I can't find a justifiable basis for bitching on the current decision, so all that could possibly yield is more damage to the community.

*Another example that I found outrageous was MVT implying racism had anything to do with it (the video-link he posted); T's skin colour was never brought up in the debate and it can be discarded as pure bs just from the fact VAJ ( Cool) is the MK64 SC Champ and no one ever had a problem with that.

In my experience a new site number 1 on a game increases play not reduces it, probably the negative response from Neo, Karel and Mario86 is what has had the effect. Not the decision itself, for when I did allow him back on (ranked 30 odd) there was no change in the activity. Therefore it was not my decision which made people react or kick off, it was him wanting to further and improve his level of play. Sue him...

The 3DS ambassador should have some impact, i've been pimping the site on numerous english gaming mag forums but so should everyone else. My username on other forums is www.mariokart64.com which leads people to teh community as a whole.

I also think we should give the site a face lift on the main page. The colour schemes or something to liven/jazz it up a bit.  Smiley

Yes when he was added back he wasn't site champ, that underlines Fried's point: it's incredibly important for the site credibility that it's champ is trusted. This fuelled the urgency of our responses. Anyway, time to look to the future I guess.

Maybe zzmt is an intimidating prospect to newcomers also? Modding a pad for smk is 1 thing, modding a ds is something completely different...

We did mention adding new charts earlier.

I don't know what else is out there besides cyberscore really but a shortcut table here at least offers competition to those who are not interested in learning all the track rules.  Seeing as we already acknowledge the no restriction records on the main site, there should be a chart for all these times as well.  No doubt it will take awhile to build up but it definitely makes the pp more comprehensive.  For starters, having a page explain where all the shortcuts are and how they work would help new people give them a try.

Would love to see non-zzmt as well.  As Karel mentioned, using the guidelines for smk's non-nbt would serve as a good starting point.  It would take some effort to implement but I don't think it's impossible.  It's also the popular alternative to tearing your gba apart!

Agreed for a possible SC chart creation! Cheesy
And I also think the ambassador's program will be a very good thing for MKSC. We'll see how this is going... Smiley
