For instance, "Retro Bowser Castle 1" and "Retro Mario Circuit 2" don't tell you which versions of each track they are, whereas "GBA Bowser Castle 1" and "SNES Mario Circuit 2" are clear.

The problem is that this is the 7th MK and there were six before it. For a newcomer to the series, or someone who only played 1-2 games and not the other 5-6, the platform is meaningless. I wouldn't be surprised if some people would just get confused and write down the wrong system in their submissions ("was it DS or GBA? meh, I haven't played either").
At least Nintendo were sensible enough this time not to have 3 courses named "Mario Circuit". Not that they were sensible with some other things, like not saving laps, and the Replay-mode.

The parser automatically put as flap any times written with wrong abbreviations. I should definitely have spotted that error after updating, but I'm not the only one to blame Roll Eyes

To everyone, be adsived that in the future I will simply discard your times if you don't make the effort to use the correct abbreviations. I'm not supposed to guess which track you played...

Hopefully a new site would come to make updating easier.

pffft, alex said I could use PAL abbrevations so that's what i've been doing because it's easier to just read on my game rather than have to look up foreign names. Oh well, I hope he fixes that.

Edit: Why are we using the american names anyway? As far as I know mariokart has always been more popular in europe and the game was even released here first... Is it just the "it makes more sense" argument that I think I saw alaktorn mention?

We use american names because we have to choose a standard language whether it's American English or British English or something else. American names appeals to a wider audience of players as they are direct translations or the Japanese names, and the Japanese players uses the American names when writing in English.

A minor nitpicky issue here, but my name is misspelled on the site. It should be Alex Vandegrift, not Vandergrift (no r before the g). I went back the yahoo group to make sure it wasn't my own error, and it seems I had it right. It's a very common mistake and so I don't blame anyone for it, but I'd like my correct name displayed, if only to make updating my times easier for everyone. Considering they were displayed on the charts I thought this meant we could had in there our best time for the fastest section, but there seem to have been a misunderstanding...

Anyway, I will do a final update this night and then leave for about 48h (probably less, possibly more), so you'll either need another times updater, ask Alex to update... or wait two days !
