Slick tires have been working better for me than the red monster tires on TC.  Undecided

Also barrel train vs b dasher it's very easy to see that the MT stat makes a difference, not sure if it's enough to make it better though.

I am absolutely sorry for not taking time to consider the obvious and instead go straight to being interested in the highest speed combo for time trialing in a racing game. Next time i'll make sure to consider obvious stuff so you can understand Smiley

Yeah so I actually tried the gold wheels now. They're pretty obviously faster. A shame they knock down the off-road so horribly and my strategy involves having to remain off-road for a while at the end. I managed to do some hopping over the first bit and then shroom (and remain on the inside of the third pipe even), but it seemed to cut down my time about as much as remaining off-road and then get the red MT on the other side... I really don't get how Nicola got so low times with big monster wheels, going on the outside of the third pipe, and doing two blue MTs instead of one red on that shroomcut turn (with red monster wheels) =/
But since he seemingly can do that without getting worse times than with my strat, then he really should be able to smash his own time with gold wheels. I'm still unsure which is faster for me currently, but it's probably gold wheels too, even though they're a bit harder to handle.

Do the slick wheels have better off-road than the gold wheels? (hell yeah i'm concerned about the stats, alaktorn Wink)

Slick have less weight so they probably slow down less on offroad, so they might be better for TC than Gold

Still haven't unlocked the slick tires and i have 2500 coins lol...tried monster and gold and i do a little better with gold but I don't see a big difference

The length isn't so important, just that there is a big bunch of coins that's easy to collect somewhere. As I said, i'm farming and not actually racing Tongue

Edit: Just finished a race on luigi's mansion standing on top of a place where the coins go in circle so they're still hitting me while the total points screen is up. Guess i'll let the game run for a while while watching TV and see if it the game actually counts these. Tongue (it seems to pick up a little more than 30 coins a minute so if it works then everyone should be able to get all 5000 coins in 166 minutes without playing)

edit2: Nooo, looks like a CPU knocked me away! Time to set it up again.

Edit3: Well, got knocked out of line again. Now trying the circling coins on WP where I think I found a spot the AI will never touch. Also get a little more than one coin a second here so it's even better, lol.

It stops counting whenever you reach 10? Are you sure about that? Now I know I was having alot of fun and raced a shitload with my friend travelling to and from that smash tournament last weekend, but I don't think I played enough to collect as many coins as I did =/

Anyway, if that is the case... Then I guess the fastest strategy is to find a track with alot of early coins, quit the GP and start over again. Assuming the game accept coins from GPs you didn't finish.  Roll Eyes

I'm pretty sure it doesn't.  Haven't actually tested it but I feel like I would've had a lot more coins if that worked.

Well my trick didn't work anyway, but that could just mean it doesn't count after the race is finished (somewhat expectable). If it is limited to 40 coins a GP, then it is retarded to make stuff unlockable at frikkin 5000.

But nintendo also fucked up their VR system really badly this time so maybe they are that stupid.

So.. Sorry for the noob question but I'm going to start tt'ing soon. How do you know which combination to use for each course? Why is there not one overall best combo?

Also is it decided if you should focus on the coins lap 1 or not?

Get coins as quick as possible, you'll lose truckloads of time if you don't - follow videos found in the vids topic to see where to get coins.
Slick/gold tyres have best speed (you can get gold by getting 1 star in every cup, whereas slick is random), red monster tyres are best for offroad (i.e. KD), wooden wheels are best for underwater (WS and CCL), gliders don't matter so much atm, and the most commonly used body part is bdasher, although blue seven, zucchini and bruiser are also used, which egg1 being used in WS and CCl aswell.

Lol, I think I may aswell post a revised version of this as some general tips for vehicles at the top of my course strat thread now that I've typed all this..

Red monster has tighter drift than the two top speed wheels and I believe mushroom is even tighter, which is why these are used on some tracks.
