After I got VITA's ghost, I used it too, and mentioned it on chat, and Tvk said he'd been using it, and that it's faster because you don't need to trick, and don't need to lose speed by gaining height (from which you can obtain lots of speed on the last turn).

Hitting every boostpad at glider section is quicker, but imo harder as the glider becomes very sensitive to movement.

I was just trying the alternative strat. It worked quite well for me but I don't know which one is really faster. And I can't get all 3 coins while shrooming, handling is too poor.

Haven't tried the glider strat yet, but my guess is that red mt will be hard to get with that strategy.
