If you guys are interested in the possibilities of customization in MK7 Communities:
• What is a “Community” in Mario Kart 7?Selecting a Community allows you to join and play against only members of that Community using some
custom parameters for races and battles. No need to add any Friend Code besides the community code.
The number of members is not limited and you can join/quit a Community anytime. You can save various communities in your favourites so that you only need to enter the community code once.
• How to join a Community?Main menu => Online Multiplayer (bottom of the lower screen) => Communities => Enter Code
When you connect to a community, the game will look for a
room (called a “group”) with at least 1 spot available. For example, if 20 members are currently playing in the community, there may be 2 rooms of 8 people and 1 room of 4 people. Just like in Mario Kart Wii, players are able to text chat with a list of preset phrases.
• Community codes 
BOB-OMB Battles Community 48-4085-7639-9205Bob-omb battles are only possible with communities. You can't play bob-omb battles against randoms in Worldwide mode. The more people join this community, the more you are likely to find opponents to play bob-omb battles with. 
SHELL Battles Community 63-9048-1840-3182Same as above. Please note that shell means green shells, triple green shells, red shells, triple red shells and blue shells. 
NO ITEMS Races Community 03-1782-7580-5073No item boxes during races.
