Shortcut charts.

While the site rule charts are fun, we should have a no rules section that is just about being the fastest.  It would definitely increase activity here and hopefully one day become the best shortcut charts for mksc.  With a pretty complex set of rules for the uninitiated, allowing people to submit times right off the bat will help the site appeal to all kinds of players.

While I feel creating non-zzmt charts give those records their proper recognition, it's best to put this on the back burners for now.  It's a big gray area and even if we ban specific off road mt's, being able to zzmt or even slightly allows you to take a tighter line whilst charging.

@April's post
1) Based on the poll thus far, a little over the half the voters favor Fried's idea and I think this is the best compromise for the time being.  Hopefully this is enough to entice those who left to resubmit because while any website could list the best known times, there is only one players' page.  We can't ignore the fastest times completely but we also can't ignore shenanigans going on elsewhere.  Striving to be the best for mariokart means we should hold our charts up to the same standard.  There is no time table for making a final decision and it's best if there is more discussion to think things through carefully.

2)I supplied Timur with a standards sheet earlier this year. As soon as people feel up to reviewing the god times and gaps, we could begin a discussion to agree on a new set of standards.  This really depends on what charts we decide to go with so for the time being this isn't a priority.  If there are some typos that still need to be fixed for the current standards that's an easy fix.

3)I can personally vouch for Timur.  Besides lurking these boards over the last five years, he has shown dedication in updating mksc with TvK and had time to catapult himself to the top of the mkds in the best comeback ever.  It's hard to find people who won't up and leave (I went through a lot of folks before settling on Kmacc and Nicola for mkds) but whatever the case, I know Timur will do right for the players of the players' page.

Agreed; also I'm going to contact the begrudged French karters who left the page (Flo, Mario & co) to see if they are still interested in rejoining and making the site complete again, as soon as/if these changes are implemented.

Non-ZZMT could be exactly regulated like Non-NBT, it's not too complicated. Only boosts generated by long 1-directional slides (so say 180 degrees or so) are allowed and those should never help to cross pieces of road that otherwise slow you down. The full rules can be read here: http://www.mariokart64.com/smknonnbt/

They might be a bit intimidating for a newcomer, but they are actually pretty logical. It's the kind of basic TT experience you have in a universe where the properties of boosting are only known from long hairpin slides on road. Think of yourself as ignorant of any other type of boost use and bam, those are the rules you are adhering to for the Non-NBT site. You can even play like that with a modified DS/GBA, but it's easier to prevent accidental stuff without obviously.

Couldn't have said it better myself. According to the votes and the community opinions so far, that seems to be the best option, even if on a temporary basis.

What about the boosts that can easily be done without a pro-ZZMT GBA (e.g. the boost at the end of RP, and several boosts in MC3)?  Should they be banned?

I think MKSC is different from SMK, because in MKSC it's more difficult to avoid boosting.

I can update it if you tell me which name and which date to enter. I don't want to go and dig for the date myself since you probably know those details better than I do and can find the details quicker than I would.

Seems that no one wants to highlight that 45.4% of the people who have voted have out right said "leave it as it is, Fenner stays put". The rest is split between the three options (mainly two).

The majority vote goes to Fenner staying.

Just wanted to highlight that.. otherwise god knows why the poll was even put up, ^ above have ignored the stats in favour of fenner  Smiley

I'm suprised by this, but maybe its just that those who want Fenners times to stay on the rankings aren't quite as vocal. I'd love to know who else voted for him to stay, i've got about 3 in mind who would've but otherwise i'm quite suprised considering all i've had for months is "we're all leaving unless you remove him".

People seem to think that if Fenners times were removed and he was off the site that people would automatically play alot more and lots more activity would happen from the "top players". I'll believe it when i see it.

We can't react to poll standings that we cannot see Gaff. They aren't publicly visible yet.
Also such decisions shouldn't be done per MB poll imo. Rather per PM to April or something, perhaps with a small motivation to it. This way all votes can be verified properly, this is an important decision that directly impacts the future of the site.

It says "Sebastian Stellmacher 1275 days" and I actually dethrone Seb on June 13, 2011.  And according to the stats, I was champ for 164 days and continuing Smiley
Sebastian Stellmacher - Germany - 28-May-2008 / 13-June-2011 - 1111 days (i think)
Terrence Fenner - USA - 13-June-2011 / still going - 164 days (or more)

--
and for the rest, don't worry. When I get another DS, I'll try and manage another live stream if you want...I'll probably do it if I get more money though Smiley

Imo we should have a rivalry based around the current movers, f.e.: Andrea/Nicola/me, although I'm not quite sure how that'll work out due to Nicola just ravaging the charts...

As you say, the problem would be that one person would completely dominate the rivalry, taking away all the 'fun' out of the rivalry. That's why I decided to put the people that were most recently active together in a rivalry with people at their own level. If one or more people don't come back for a while, I will send an update for the rivalries to Alex, but I guess the current rivalries can't be optimised by a lot. This is in particular sad for Nicola, because there is nobody around his level that has been active lately (except for Vorsch, but a rivalry of 2 people isn't a rivalry).
