As some non-MKwii'ers may not know, on mkwii there are wifi boards to see who from across the world has a WR on a certain track, and awhile back Pierrepont made a website which details all these WR's that ever occured on 1 site, the site is mkwii.co.uk

What does this have to do with MK7 you may think, well MK7 like MKwii is likely to have Wifi top 10's like on MKWii and the main problem with mkwii.co.uk was that it was made so late that it was difficult to get earlier WR's correct. So I am asking 2 things...

1. Assuming MK7 has wifi charts, do you think a site like mkwii has that detail every WR that has ever happened would be a good idea??

2. Assuming your answer to 1. was "Yes", should the site be ready made before MK7's release so as soon as the wifi boards are set up we can keep an accurate log of WR's without the need to backtrack, which would make the site far more accurate?

Yes on both counts, though it could be tricky to have everything ready before the release if we miss info like unlockable tracks/vehicles/characters.

Yeah that would be an excellent idea, and I'd be glad to bring some help for that site, but also for the MK7 thread on this board...

Why do you absolutely need Pierrepont for that?

I knew how to host one at my school but I just don't know how to do that on my own computer...
Do you need to create a special folder, in which you'd put the php, css and html files (just like on Linux)? Or does it work differently with Windows (especially Windows XP or 7)

I don't see the point of trying to do something on your own and asking Pierrepont's code. Especially as you said if you don't know anything about web designing. You'll end up having the exact same thing as he did for Mkwii and there will be two disctinct sites when only one is well enough.

Let Pierrepont add a new section to his site if he's willing to do it, otherwise someone having website experience creates something completely new for MK7.

We need someone who KNOWS how to make a site well, not someone who just knows how to host a site, so it is perfectly reasonable to ask Pierrepont for help if no one else has the required knowledge to do it by themselves. So if no one posts here saying "hey I know how to make this can do it well" we will HAVE to ask pierrepont for help  

Think about the future mk7 players, do they really want to scroll through MKWii stuff they will consider garbage to get to the MK7 area that they care about. I'd sure find that annoying

Of course not. You just have to add an introductory page, or a menu to choose which MK you want to be directed to (like the PP). There is no way visitors should have to go through Mkwii to access MK7. This surely is extremely quick to add.

@ Alaktorn. I agree it would be better to have Pierrepont's site updated rather than another one. Centralizing information is better. Plus, If Pierrepont wants to add in the future statistics involving several MK, having one site will definitely help. Just think of how practical it is to have all the MKs here on the PP.

I still think cp'ing the basic coding from pierrepont onto another site but with different updaters is still a valid idea as pierrepont may not want to create or update an mk7 section if he dosent play/like the game himself, also centralising only 2 games does seem kindof pointless to me

Interesting thoughts.

Having thought about it myself, I am likely to create a similar site for MK7. I'm certain to play the game from release and so with a template site in place from MKWii, it should be minimal hassle for me to create a sister site. Of course you're often unsure how seriously you will play a new game, so if I do not play the game long-term or grow tired of the site, I'd be happy to hand over updating responsibilities to keep the site alive.

So for now, I think the best thing to do is for me to make a sister site in the future (nearer the release) which is similar in style to MKWii.co.uk and with the same coding. If WRs are tracked often and all updates are posted in relevant threads, then updating the future MK7.co.uk should be little trouble for me or someone else.
