^Thanks. I don't think I'm going to be any good at DD, I tried some 150cc star cup to try to unlock the barrel train (even though my memory card hasn't arrived yet to save) and could only manage silver Embarrassed

I was using the pink bird that shots eggs and yoshi with the yoshi kart .. is that a good choice to begin with (seemed better than when I tried mario and luigi with the mario kart)? What are the best 150cc set-ups?

If you haven't played 50cc or 100cc yet then jumping straight to 150cc will be difficult at first. Keep playing. I think I used this beasty thing.

Though I remember using the Bullet Kart a lot before I unlocked the Barrel Train. But I'm not sure that is unlocked at the start.

At least now on I'll be able to save things.

So I unlocked the barrel train and had my first attempts at time trialing here (using toadette and para trooper on 60hz). Just did the first three tracks and got:

LC 1'27"765, 27"845
PB 1'18"497, 25"465
BP 1'12"936, 9"673

I really have no idea what I'm doing and am seemingly just trying to drive it like it's mk64, which doesn't appear to be working too well. This is going to take some time to get the hang of I think.
