1.: The most used emulator for MKWii TAS is dolphin, does it also work for MKDD?
2.: Can I play with a GCN Controller on my PC?
3.: How long takes a TAS for example on LC flap (MKWii)? Just as a comparision to how long it would take to complete a TAS.
4.: Is it possible to see the time in a replay and get a fixed camera with a hack or whatever? (I think it's not possible to get a live run with TAS, so I ask this)

3. hours and hours, don't even try if you don't have patience
4. TAS is the epitome of live replays, it's possible to get any game to be live with it, it's a base principle of TASing

edit: actually on the first question I don't know nor does anyone else until someone tries it, but theory says yes

frame advance and RAM Search are vital for any decent TAS, and that's pretty much it…

I don't think Dolphin has RAM Search, but you can download a separate program for that

oh right... important is to make Dolphin start recording on start up of the game, there should be an option for that somewhere... though I don't know how stable Dolphin's recording is, so it might give you some problems. note this recording isn't a video, it's a file with the inputs you have pressed while TASing, so when played back the emulator will copy your TAS exactly and you can then record a video

RAM Search is basically searching the stuff the game uses to make the game work, it's important to find speed, X/Y position, hitboxes, charge timers and all that

Bump!

The latest version of Dolphin Rerecording runs the game! I have merely been experimenting with MTs thus far, so far I found the following (which is not guaranteed to be correct or optimal)

The fastest I could produce sparks for the MT was in 8 countersteer frames > 6 neutral > 8 countersteer > 8 neutral. This discounts the time taken to initiate a slide, and the last neutral frames count is probably wrong.

Get the latest dolphin rerecord here.

Hopefully an experienced TASer can come along and try this!

^ If you have skype or msn, I can help you with the basic operations of the emulator and stuff! As for making a good TAS, i'm in the learning process myself.

Update on the MT technique: I believe that the MT's minimum spark time is 8 countersteer > 5 neutral > 8 countersteer > 6 neutral. Initiating the slide varies, as it's a lot faster to initiate when you are already turning. On a straight, it's ~12 frames, but I don't know 100% for sure. It always seems to vary slightly no matter what.

As for the MT tech: 6 frames neutral position are for the end, but isn't it possible to release the MT already as soon as you have finished loading the blue sparks after the second tiem when you countersteer?

TAS destroyed MKW for reasons that could not apply to MKDD. On MKW, you could TAS a run, and transfer it to your wii, and upload it to the charts. Transferring MKDD TAS times onto a real console isn't possible afaik.

TAS was also performed on many tracks on MKDS, and that community has not fallen victim to it. As long as the TAS times are monitored, there should be no problems.

As far as pursuing MKDD TAS times goes, I am perfectly entitled to do so. If the majority of people wish for it not to be discussed here, then fair enough. I'll keep it to youtube, and youtube alone. But I'm sure there'll be plenty of folk interested in seeing the game pushed to its limits.

Alright, so idk if I just know nothing about TASing, or if there's something else going on here, but I just tried emulating that MT speed with frame advance, and didn't get anywhere close. I don't know how he got them to go that fast, but I couldn't replicate it. I'll keep experimenting here because I'm sure there's something I'm missing. Also, I'm not using Barrel Train (don't have it unlocked) so if that has an effect on MT speed then that would explain part of it.

My initial tests agree, I've asked him how he did it, like how many frames he pressed each input in order to MT like that, when he responds I'll see what I can do, but thus far I'm not even close.

EDIT: Here's my first test run, I spent about 30 mins on it so it obviously sucks, but notice how the MT speed isn't quite as fast as the other video.
