Asking for YC Tips
08/31/10 at 13:48:22

Hey guys! I'm not a member of the MKDD PP but I still play sometimes MKDD with some friends and I don't play that bad actually. ^^"
I only had one question about YC, that, I'm sure, has already been asked a couple of times but I'm too lazy to look for it here... xD
Anyway, my question was about the SC that most of you can take with no mushroom... How can you do that!!!! Shocked
Is there any strat to use? Any buttons to press so as to jump over the water easily?
Thanks for the help you may give me.  Smiley  Smiley

Do an MT when lined up properly to cross the gap with no mushroom.  You should probably practice it before trying it in a race.

Well, easy question^^

The only thing i don't know is, if it is possible without barrel train Tongue well, use barrel train, it's 100% possible with it Wink

The only thing you have to do is to load an MT and to release it ca. 2-3 kartlengths before the grass. Now drive with the speed of this MT over the grass, and you should land very close at the edge, now you have to load another MT and you got the SC. Sounds simple, does it? Cheesy I hope this helps you ^^

Yes, I obviously use this kart... ^^
uhm... ok. Smiley
I'll have a try, but, doesn't preparing an MT in the air, slows you down and makes you fall? (for example, it happens a lot on BC at the last jump...)

It is possible with other karts, yes. You just need a kart with a good acceleration.

Meta: you need to wait a moment before to prepare an MT in the air; be sure that you will jump enough. You need to arrive on the grass when speed is max and is going to down. I think you fail because you are too close to the grass when you do a MT.

(J'espère au moins que tu sais qui je suis xD )

Actually, I used to release the MT just before jumping and I always fell... ^^"

Upps, sorry i described wrong xD ehm.. load the MT as soon as you hit the other side, in a normal case you should jump a little bit in the air after you land on the other side... and this is the time where you load the oher MT^^ as soon as you're in the air Grin ah hard to describe xD

In my opinion there are 3 keys to making the YC jump with no shroom.

1. Spacing when you release the mt before the jump.  It's very easy to release an mt too late and you won't get a proper boost going over the jump.  Try changing your timing and watch if you get further or closer.

2. Angle your kart is facing.  Obviously you want to be crossing just about perpendicular to the gap.

3. Once you release your mt, you want to be neutral on the control stick.  If you make any steering adjustments after you release that mt, you'll greatly decrease your chances of making the jump.  Even if you're a little off-center, I would just let it go and see if you make it.  Once I realized that, I could make the jump almost 90% of the time.

The mt after you clear the jump is something that you'll get a feel for when you start making it more often.  Some jumps you can charge it early and others you need to wait until much later. Try it out and see what works for you.

Don't worry, I haven't been able to do it yet as well, but I have to say that I tried it like 3 times and then just went around for time trials. I should give it a try again soon Grin

Darkmeta, I didn't mean it like that Smiley When you know on which spot (or close to) releasing the mt you can do it.. Then it works 90%. Greets

It works with lot of karts, especially karts with bad suspensions (yoshi/birdo, luigi/mario..etc).. but more difficult with low boosting MT (Bowser, DK, Wario..)

Darkmeta, the end of your boosting must be at the starting of the grass. Wink

I feel tempted to try this first thing after I get the game now.

But I'm guessing I should start out using shrooms though.

Is 2'24"500 a good beginner target (keep in mind I have played YC as a retro track before)?

The well jump saves a few tenths, however, given its complexity I would recommend to leave it be until you reach Hero; otherwise you'd just be wasting a lot of tries trying to get it, only to lose those tenths later on. Build up consistency on the rest of the course first.

Yes, and the answer is the same, because it takes a lot of time to do the SC w/o shrooms while turning around the corner doesn't take much longer actually... Smiley

As a beginner target (ok, dunno how often you played this game) i would say: 2'10"000 is possible, in some turns you shouldn't do MTs, just drive as close as possible to the wall/grass.. that could save more time then preparing an MT, cuz i know, you're 100% not really fast in MTing Wink
And to this retro stuff: ok, you know the track when you played it on MKDS often ^^ but MKDS is a little bit different then MKDD Cheesy

Hey guys! Smiley
I tried a bit YC went I went to my best friend's and I finally succeeded the SC shroomless ^^
I got the strat but I still have difficulties to do it (can do it about 15% of the time). I know I need to practise now. Cheesy

An other question now because it seems easy but I still can't make it, how can you do the WS SC! Shocked
I tried to release the MT just before going up on the hill and I got very high but I still can't make my kart fall and respawn just before the last zipper... Undecided
Any tips here too?

There are some "inofficial" WR videos from WS sc flaps , watch them and you can see where to release your MT and which direction your kart should have as soon as you release the MT:

Release the MT a little bit before you go up the hill, try to get a good line to the hill so that you fly very far and also very high, that's all what i can say, it's not that hard as soon as you know the correct place for releasing the MT Smiley.
A thing you shouldn't do: don't drift while you are in the air, it will slow you down extremely in the air so that you can forget it to land the SC Grin.
