What are your deepest and darkest fears?

For me, it's water. Mostly the ocean, but any lake or body of water that you can't see the bottom. Swimming in the ocean, surrounded by the deep and dark unknown, completely oblivious to what deadly creatures might be swimming beneath my feet freaks me out more than anything. I've had this one dream a few times where I'm swimming in the ocean, and suddenly a dark shape begins to form around me, some creature swimming upwards towards the surface. *shivers*

What about you, what freaks you out the most?

Man, I can totally relate to that wasp thing. Grin

They are probably my number 1 fear, next to getting eaten alive by sharks in the ocean. My fear of bees and wasps I attribute to when I was younger. I stepped on a hive when I was young, and was totally oblivious to the fact that they were not flies. I swatted at them, and in turn was stung 5 times. My mind has never been straight around them since.

As for the sharks... basically the same reason as Cam.

And as for the dark, I can understand why people would have a fear of it, since we relate a lot on sight and hearing as our primary defense for staying away from danger, and in the dark one of these defenses is negated. But, for me I have not had a problem with it. For the same reason as Brutus.

Reply #7 - 06/10/10 at 11:42:21 I'm not too good in the water myself. I don't like walking in very tall grass or marshy areas in general due to snakes and alligators. They can be very hard to see until it's too late, if you're walking in these areas it's difficult to run fast, and neither one is something you want to be bitten by.

I'm terribly afraid of heights.

I don't think I ever went through anything traumatic to make me this way, it just freaks me out. I've yet to fly on a plane, so I'm gonna be petrified when that happens. I went on the top of the rock (Rockefeller Center) about a year ago, and too scared to even go close to the edge. I was probably about 800 ft up (~244 m), so it wasn't so fun for me.

I plan on taking a trip to Canada this summer though, so I might go up the Skylon Tower. It's a bit smaller, but still high enough to freak me out.

I was chased by an Alsatian when I was very young which was pretty traumatic since it was twice my size. I don't really have any 'fears' these days, but wasps are definitely a huge hate. I don't totally get people fearing dark, maybe it's because like Cam said I totally lack of imagination, but what kind of bad things could happen in the dark ? It's not like we are 8 years old people who believe in monsters... Huh

Note: Personally, why are people afraid of the dark? I prefer the dark to daytime, in fact, sometimes, I actually go mountain biking in the forest at 2 in the morning!
