Matchups and Results
05/24/10 at 14:30:34

Results and discussion*!

We started off the contest strong, with up to 106 voters showing up to pick their favorite in each match!

MK64 Star Dashers
1. Mark Jones - 39 votes (36.7%)
2. Shaun Tanney - 26 votes (24.5%)
3. Matthias Rustemeyer - 21 votes (19.8%)
4. Ashley O'Hara - 20 votes (18.8%)

A nailbiter right off the bat! Jones dominated as expected, but the battle for 2nd and 3rd was much closer. Shaun started off the day in last place but picked up the pace later to end up in 2nd place.

Shaun and Matthias advance to Round 2. Mark receives a bye into Round 3.

Ye Olde Schoole
1. Kevin Booth - 50 votes (51.5%)
2-TIE. David Wonn - 16 votes (16.4%)
2-TIE. Pier-Yves Lemire - 16 votes (16.4%)
4. Nathan Stinson - 15 votes (15.4%)

Speaking of nailbiters, this one was even closer! As the original old-schooler and community big daddy, Booth took a huge chunk of the votes while the other three fought for the leftovers. The battle was extremely close all day long, and ended with only 1 vote separating 2nd and 4th. Wonn and PYL will fight in overtime today to sort out who gets the better bracket position for Round 2.

David and Pier-Yves advance to Round 2. Kevin receives a bye into Round 3.

Drunk Jamaican(?) Guys
1. Tom Gaffikin - 61 votes (66.3%)
2. Manuel Babjar - 18 votes (19.5%)
3. Alencar Faria - 8 votes (8.6%)
4. Armin Huber - 5 votes (5.4%)

It seemed to be a theme today that the winners won by quite a bit while the other three had a much closer battle. All of these guys are well-known among SMK and MKSC karters so they split those votes, but Tom is also known among everyone else so he took a big victory today. The battle between the other three was very close at the beginning, but eventually Manuel broke away and took 2nd place easily in the end.

Manuel and Alencar advance to Round 2. Tom receives a bye into Round 3.

All 4 MKSC Players
1. Matt Ellis - 42 votes (44.2%)
2. Florian Chollet - 22 votes (23.1%)
3. Luca Barbetta - 21 votes (22.1%)
4. Daniel Sampson - 10 votes (10.5%)

Yet another close battle for 2nd here. Luca led Florian most of the day, but a late surge pushed Florian ahead for the final tally.

Florian and Luca advance to Round 2. Matt receives a bye into Round 3.

Lookit all them charts 'n' graffs.

Day 2 brings even more exciting matches, and perhaps our first upsets?

Themeless Division I
1. Nick Meade - 51 votes (53.6%)
2. Guilherme Arantes - 23 votes (24.2%)
3. Guillaume Leviach - 16 votes (16.8%)
4. Guillaume Bertrand - 5 votes (5.2%)

Nick took a huge portion of the MKW vote to dominate this match from the beginning. The fight for 2nd between two popular SMKers was more interesting. Guillaume led for the first couple hours, but Guilherme took quickly took away the lead and although Guillaume stayed close he was never able to get the lead again. Interestingly, the SMK voters heavily favored Guilherme while Guillaume got most of his support elsewhere.

Guilherme and Guillaume L. advance to Round 2. Nick receives a bye into Round 3.

Pixelated Bubble Cannons
1. Chris Clark - 46 votes (47.4%)
2. David McPartland - 32 votes (32.9%)
3. Piet den Dulk - 17 votes (17.5%)
4. Scott Dufault - 2 votes (2%)

The first match with no Mods/Ninjas in it and Clark took full advantage of the opportunity to run amok. He got over 50% of the votes from most voting blocks to win the match handily. Bubbles took a large chunk of the votes from newer members and MKW players, which was enough to push him easily into 2nd. Piet won the MKDD vote and also got some nice oldschool support for the 3rd place finish.

David and Piet advance to Round 2. Clark receives a bye into Round 3.

DS Dreamboys
1-TIE. Nicola Torre - 28 votes (32.5%)
1-TIE. Robert Lee - 28 votes (32.5%)
3. David Roldan - 18 votes (20.9%)
4. Timur Ahmad - 12 votes (13.9%)

Our first close battle for 1st place and it ends in a tie! Nicola had a huge lead early on, while Robert spent part of the early going in last place, but during the day he gradually chipped away at the lead until they ended up tied. Nicola was most dominant among the "oldschool" voters, while Robert got a lot of support from MKW. David and Timur did well among SMK, MKSC, and MKDS, but weren't able to take a big enough chunk to keep up during the day.

David advances to Round 2. Nicola and Robert will battle in Overtime today to decide which one of them receives a bye into Round 3.

Grin Grin Grin Shocked...
1. Lewis Benny - 32 votes (32.3%)
2. Vincent Tolhuis - 29 votes (29.2%)
3. Joe Bernier - 28 votes (28.2%)
4. David Schiering - 10 votes (10.1%)

The most exciting battle yet by far here, and it ends with a surprising result! Joe was favored by many to win this group, but he falls to 3rd thanks to strong efforts by both Lewis and Vincent. As expected, Joe was a monster in the SMK vote, VAJ dominated the MK64 vote, and Lewis had big MKW support. Joe had a big early lead but couldn't hold it, VAJ stayed consistently strong all day, and Lewis started slow but ended up on top.

Vincent and Joe advance to Round 2. Lewis receives a bye into Round 3.

Ye Olde Schoole OVERTIME
2. Pier-Yves Lemire - 49 votes (55%)
3. David Wonn - 40 votes (44.9%)

Our first overtime match was close but not too close. PYL led the entire way, including a 9-0 lead at the beginning of the match. David made a strong effort to keep it close but couldn't quite catch up. PYL took the MK64 and MKDS voters, while Wonn had strong SMK and MKSC support.

Some more interesting results today! Hopefully this unpredictability keeps up!

Newbie F
1. Myles Bukrim - 36 votes (35.6%)
2. Thomas Bolton - 31 votes (30.6%)
3. Steven Zwartjes - 21 votes (20.7%)
4. Kouider Benarioua - 13 votes (12.8%)

There were two good battles in this match, the battle for 1st and the battle for 3rd. Myles started the match with a huge lead in the early hours but started losing ground in the morning and was overtaken by Thomas. The Myles supporters didn't give up though, and despite Thomas taking nearly all the MKDS voters, Myles ended up on top. In the battle for 3rd, Steven started out very slowly but started to get some momentum as the Oldschool/SMK/Euro voters started waking up. He and Kouider changed spots several times, but Steven ended up with a comfortable margin of victory.

Thomas and Steven advance to Round 2. Myles receives a bye into Round 3.

Zombie Updater Attack
1. Darius Austin - 30 votes (32.9%)
2. Sean Sullivan - 24 votes (26.3%)
3. James Leare - 19 votes (20.8%)
4. Marius Hukkelaas - 18 votes (19.7%)

Probably our closest overall match so far, with only 12 votes separating 1st and 4th place. The closest battle was between James and Marius for 3rd. They were within 2 votes of each other for most of the day, but then about halfway through James seemed to break away, taking a 6 vote lead. But Marius made a furious comeback and took the lead away again, only to lose it at the end as James got the final two votes. This match had probably the most interesting breakdown so far, with each karter dominating at least one demographic. Darius took the MK64 and MKDD voters, and had strong support everywhere else except SMK and MKSC. Sean had consistently strong performances among MK64, MKSC, MKDD, and MKDS voters. James won the MKW vote but got no support in SMK, MK64, or MKDD. Marius dominated the SMK vote but had no votes from MKDD, MKDS, or MKW players.

Sean and James advance to Round 2. Darius receives a bye into Round 3.

Cole + n00bs
1. Robert Szabo - 45 votes (46.8%)
2. Cole Gilbert - 33 votes (34.3%)
3. Christophe Charignon - 13 votes (13.5%)
4. Patrick Hewson - 5 votes (5.2%)

Pretty standard match here. Cole briefly held the lead an hour into the match, but after that all four stayed in their final positions the whole way and never really threatened to pass each other. Cole easily took the votes from newer members, especially MKW players, while Etch dominated pretty much every other category. Christophe had some consistent support everywhere to push him through to the next round.

Cole and Christophe advance to Round 2. Robert receives a bye into Round 3.

DS Dreamboys OVERTIME
1. Nicola Torre - 56 votes (62.9%)
2. Robert Lee - 33 votes (37%)

Our second overtime match didn't manage to be any closer than the first. Nicola jumped out to an early 11-1 lead and it was never particularly close after that. Nicola won nearly every voting block, and was particularly strong in SMK and MKDS.

Robert advances to Round 2. Nicola receives a bye into Round 3.

Shadow will be posting the results for "The Coolest Division" later today.

Here are some delayed results because I was asleep. Smiley

The Coolest Division
1 Robin Usher - 53 votes (53.5%)
2 Alex Shoal - 18 votes (18.1%)
3 Abel Marques - 15 votes (15.1%)
4 Ivo van der Stap - 13 votes (13.1%)

Robin held a dominant lead from the very beginning and never looked like losing out. The battle for 2nd to 4th was extremely close all day though with just a couple of votes either way for a long while. Alex's mkwii support, and Abel's mkds support pulled them through at the end.
Alex and Abel advance to Round 2. Robin receives a bye into Round 3.

Round 1 is halfway over!

Themeless Division II
1. Ben Allen - 30 votes (32.6%)
2. Benoit Boudreau - 29 votes (31.5%)
3. Ben Hart - 17 votes (18.4%)
4. Ben Stoneman - 16 votes (17.3%)

Two extremely close battles here. Benoit won the early vote and spent the vast majority of the day in first place, but BPA stayed close during the second half of the match and got the last two votes to take the win. The battle for third was even closer. Stoneman and Sorozone traded leads a few times in the early going, but after 8 hours they became very consistent; Sorozone never led by more than 2 votes but he also never fell behind. He received no new votes during the last 9 hours of the match but still managed to hang on by one vote to advance.

Benoit and Ben H. advance to Round 2. Ben A. receives a bye into Round 3.

Famous Footballers
1. Karlo Tomazelli - 35 votes (36%)
2. Alvaro Fababu - 26 votes (26.8%)
3. Christian Wild - 19 votes (19.5%)
4. Fabio Sacco - 17 votes (17.5%)

Karlo predictably dominated the MK64 vote, while Fababu won the early vote and had consistent support across the board. Fabio won the majority of the MKDS votes but couldn’t quite overcome his slow start enough to advance.

Alvaro and Christian advance to Round 2. Karlo receives a bye into Round 3.

The Face of DD
1. Scott Abbey - 52 votes (56.5%)
2. Richard Karlsson - 20 votes (21.7%)
3. Hendrik Bunde - 12 votes (13%)
4. Andreas Rudmarker - 8 votes (8.6%)

In the battle of MKDDers, the lowest ranked one wins. Scott won at least 50% of the votes from fans of every game to take this victory easily. MKDD voters favored Hendrik over Richard, and MKSC favored Andreas over either of them, but Richard got more support from the other games to take second. This match featured one of the biggest geographical differences we’ve seen so far: Scott was picked by 80% of North American voters, but less than 50% of Europeans.

Richard and Hendrik advance to Round 2. Scott receives a bye into Round 3.

Cunt! Needledick!
1. Kevin McAteer - 40 votes (49.3%)
2. Jack Murphy - 21 votes (25.9%)
3. Giulio Centrone – 12 votes (14.8%)
4. Thomas McConville – 8 votes (9.8%)

Padz led the match for the first two hours thanks to strong IRC support, but Kmacc soon overtook him and was never threatened for first place afterwards. Giulio and Pulsar traded spots a lot early on, but Giulio eventually took the win thanks at least partially to stronger MKW support. Interestingly, Padz won the MKDD and Oldschool voting blocks pretty convincingly despite not being a part of either one, while Kmacc’s most overwhelming support came from MKSC.

Jack and Giulio advance to Round 2. Kevin receives a bye into Round 3.

Mo matches mo results.

Sexiest Group Alive
1. Tom Norton – 32 votes (34.7%)
2. Mickael Smolen - 30 votes (32.6%)
3. Zack Weber - 22 votes (23.9%)
4. Markus Hobelsberger - 8 votes (17.3%)

Mickael held a dominant lead early, and was ahead of Sword 28-22 after 9 hours...but then he stopped getting votes. Sword and Zack had similar support from each group, but Sword’s was overall higher and he took the win. Mick owned the MKSC vote and also won in SMK. Markus did best in MKDD.

Mickael and Zack advance to Round 2. Tom receives a bye into Round 3.

M vs J vs MJ vs MJ
1. Michael Jongerius - 55 votes (60.4%)
2. Jamie Disley - 17 votes (18.6%)
3. Marijn Jongbloed - 13 votes (14.2%)
4. Mark Engelsman - 6 votes (6.5%)

MJ was an absolute monster among the oldschool voters, taking nearly 90%. MKDD, MKDS, and MKW gave strong support to Marijn, Mark, and Jamie respectively, but even there Michael beat his competition.

Jamie and Marijn advance to Round 2. Michael receives a bye into Round 3.

Trololololo
1. Andrew Howes - 31 votes (35.6%)
2. Michael Tunzi - 24 votes (27.5%)
3. Ryan Stevens - 21 votes (24.1%)
4. Noah Gordon - 11 votes (12.6%)

What a boring match. Next.

Michael and Ryan advance to Round 2. Andrew receives a bye into Round 3.

Please Stand Up
1. Cooper Lovera - 48 votes (48.4%)
2. Kalle Videkull - 26 votes (26.2%)
3. Alvin van Asselt – 20 votes (20.2%)
4. Clay McElveen – 5 votes (5%)

You know what’s a good movie? Heat is a good movie.

Kalle and Alvin advance to Round 2. Cooper receives a bye into Round 3.

Gurl powah!

The Well-Spoken
1. Finn Berger – 44 votes (47.3%)
2. Cameron Tangen - 25 votes (26.8%)
3. Bo Garman - 13 votes (13.9%)
4. Gregor Fran - 11 votes (11.8%)

Finn did very well among MK64 and SMK voters and also got decent support from MKSC, MKDD, and MKW. His victory was never in question after the first couple hours. Cam was a clear 2nd with great support from MKSC, MKDS, and MKW. The battle between two MKDD legends for 3rd ended up being the closest, with the lead changing hands several times and never going above 3 votes.

Cameron and Bo advance to Round 2. Finn receives a bye into Round 3.

Almost Mods
1. Tuomas Dunkel - 27 votes (30.6%)
2. Kristopher Will - 26 votes (29.5%)
3. Dave Taylor - 23 votes (26.1%)
4. Dan Hoernemann - 12 votes (13.6%)

That graph is pretty funky. Tuomas won the early IRC vote which gave him a comfortable cushion for the first half of the match, while Kristopher, Dave, and Dan each held 2nd, 3rd, and 4th at least once during the first 6 hours. After that, Kris broke away and caught up to Tuomas, taking away 1st place for most of the second half of the day before Tuomas came back with a few hours left and passed him again.

Kristopher and Dave advance to Round 2. Tuomas receives a bye into Round 3.

Almost Admins
1. Jeffrey Gutierrez - 41 votes (46%)
2. Yunus Aricanli - 19 votes (21.3%)
3. Florian Valandina - 18 votes (20.2%)
4. Ryan White - 11 votes (12.3%)

This match had one of the biggest vote swings we’ve seen so far in the highly anticipated Brutus-Flo showdown. Brutus won the early IRC vote, but Flo quickly turned the tables and was briefly doubling Brutus’ total early in the match. Over the course of the day Brutus caught up and eventually held a 5 vote lead, but then Flo brought it back within 1 vote. Another vote could have changed the result, but nobody else ended up voting for either of them for the final 9 hours. Jeff won the votes from most groups, although strangely his strongest support came from MKDD. Brutus had strong New School support from MKDS and MKW but oddly didn’t get much support from the game he’s actually good at, MKSC. Flo took a decent chunk of the SMK, MKSC, and MKDS votes, while Goose did well among MK64 and MKDD but got no support from anyone else.

Yunus and Florian advance to Round 2. Jeffrey receives a bye into Round 3.

Four Manly Men
1. April Thompson - 45 votes (52.3%)
2. Simon Laflamme - 15 votes (17.4%)
3. Dave Smith – 14 votes (16.2%)
4. Jamie White – 12 votes (13.9%)

One thing you can learn from that graph: girls are boring, men are exciting. Look at April all alone up there in the middle of nowhere, while the men battle tirelessly. Leave it to the women to lounge about at 50% all day. Anyway, as you can see there was a great battle for 2nd and 3rd here, so great that I can’t even figure out what’s going on in that first graph. So I’ll look at the second one instead. Aren’t graphs great? So apparently 90% of the newer people voted for April. Especially MKDS. You silly kiddies. Simon got good support from the oldschool games, Dave won the SMK vote overall, and Jamie got most of his votes from MK64.

Simon and Dave advance to Round 2. April receives a bye into Round 3.

Sporty’s Haircuts. For men.

Andy Roddick Fan Club
1. Sebastian Stellmacher – 46 votes (51.1%)
2. Florent Lecoanet - 35 votes (38.8%)
3. Sebastien Holmiere – 5 votes (5.5%)
4. Angelo Di Vano - 4 votes (4.4%)

This match immediately split into a fight for 1st and a fight for 3rd. Stellmacher won the early vote but Neo came back and took the lead couple times during the first few hours before Stellmacher pulled away. Meanwhile, Holmiere and Angelo had a very close race, with neither one ever leading by more than 1 vote and a lot of time spent in a tie. All of Angelo’s voters were Middle School European MKDSers. Stellmacher had 50% or better support from every game, including SMK which he split exactly 50-50 with Florent.

Florent and Sebastien advance to Round 2. Sebastian receives a bye into Round 3.

Van Der Vision
1. Matt Vanderwouw - 32 votes (36.3%)
2. Robert Van Zanten - 27 votes (30.6%)
3. Pat Bertovich - 19 votes (21.5%)
4. Steven Glen - 10 votes (11.3%)

Pat had a surprisingly strong start thanks to the early vote, and held the lead for the first 4 hours of the match. After that, Matt and Robert took over and had a flip-floppy battle for 1st for most of the day before Matt broke away for the win. This match had one of the biggest splits by old-schooliness. RVZ won the newer voters, Pat dominated the middle schoolers, and Matt won the oldschool vote despite being a relatively new face.

Robert and Pat advance to Round 2. Matt receives a bye into Round 3.

American Vans
1. Karel van Duijvenboden - 38 votes (41.7%)
2. Mike Zarro - 24 votes (26.3%)
3. Thomas van Leeuwen - 17 votes (18.6%)
4. Andrew Weatherton - 12 votes (13.1%)

Pretty straightforward really, everyone got support from where you’d expect. Perhaps the biggest surprise was Mike’s MKW support being strong enough to push him past TvL’s dedicated fans.

Mike and Thomas advance to Round 2. Karel receives a bye into Round 3.

The Old Face of DD
1. Paul Tanney - 30 votes (33.3%)
2. Vincent van der Fluit - 21 votes (23.3%)
3. Marius Mollenhauer – 20 votes (22.2%)
4. Aron Langerak – 19 votes (21.1%)

Just a crazy match here in what I believe was the strongest overall group of Round 1. Vince started out with the lead at the beginning, but then everything gets muddled. First Marius tied it up, then Paul joined in for a 3-way tie, and everything stayed within 1 or 2 votes between those three for several hours, while Aron just stopped getting votes. Later in the day Aron got some good support to put him back in the match, thanks mostly to the MKDD voters who gave their support to the one person in this match who is still active, but it wasn’t quite enough and he fell just short of placing. Meanwhile, Paul pulled ahead and took what looks like an easy win in the end. Interestingly, Paul absolutely dominated the MKW vote. Without that he would have been right with the others in the pack.

Vincent and Marius advance to Round 2. Paul receives a bye into Round 3.

Just call me Honkofuntime.

Sleeping on the Floor
1. Pierre L’Hoest – 42 votes (43.7%)
2. Zoran Tintor - 21 votes (21.8%)
3. Drew Blumfield – 19 votes (19.7%)
4. Raphael Segas - 14 votes (14.5%)

Pierre kept a good lead throughout while Drew goofed around and couldn’t decide whether he wanted to lose the match or not. In the end he decided to finish 3rd.

Zoran and Drew advance to Round 2. Pierre receives a bye into Round 3.

I’m Out of Funny Ideas
1. Timothy Shelbourne - 39 votes (41.4%)
2. Michael Liem - 27 votes (28.7%)
3. Tyler Worley - 22 votes (23.4%)
4. Matt Tanzer - 6 votes (6.3%)

Tyler took the early lead but his support faded as the day went on while Tim’s grew. Tanzer got some support in MKDD but even there he split the vote with Tim and Michael. Michael got great MK64 support and Tyler did equally well among SMKers, while Tim’s support gets bigger for each game.

Michael and Tyler advance to Round 2. Timothy receives a bye into Round 3.

The Wrath of Khan
1. Nicholas Harvey - 35 votes (35.7%)
2. Michele Magnaterra - 32 votes (32.6%)
3. Sean Billingsley - 20 votes (20.4%)
4. Jay Serra - 11 votes (11.2%)

Genghis won the Mongolian vote, but somehow that wasn’t enough to carry him into Round 2 or beyond. Michele had strong MKSC, MKDS, and MKW support, Sean did well in SMK and MKDD, and Nicholas had consistently strong support everywhere except MKDS.

Michele and Sean advance to Round 2. Nicholas receives a bye into Round 3.

Shan Quinlan Fan Club
1. William Lacey - 59 votes (61.4%)
2. Andy Lundeen - 15 votes (15.6%)
3. Dylan Gaunt – 12 votes (12.5%)
4. Gavin Price – 10 votes (10.4%)

These graphs aren’t very helpful with all that Blue all over the place. There’s a nice patch of green in MKDS and a bit of red and purple in MKW, but other than that it’s clear skies for William.

Andy and Dylan advance to Round 2. William receives a bye into Round 3.

Round 2: The Round Of Evaporating Clothes

2-1
Mickael Smolen - 70 votes (73.6%)
Sébastien Holmičre - 25 votes (26.3%)

Mick led 15-0 at the beginning of the match. He was favored over Seb by everyone except SMKers, and took over 90% of the MKDS and MKW votes.

Mickael moves on to face Mark Jones in Round 3.

2-2
Pat Bertovich - 46 votes (57.5%)
Jamie Disley - 34 votes (42.5%)

Our first upset of the round comes in just the 2nd match! Jimbo started out the match with a nice 11-2 lead, but Pat was able to make a big comeback, including 11 straight votes during the night. MKW strongly favored Jamie, but Pat had strong support everywhere else to get the win.

Pat moves on to face Kevin Booth in Round 3.

There will be no more pretty graphs because they are taking up all my disk quota. Instead, you can see a detailed breakdown of who voted for who here:

http://www.thengamer.com/updates/kart/2010/

Thanks to Scott and NGamer for setting that up.

2-3
Thomas van Leeuwen - 53 votes (59.6%)
Michael Tunzi - 36 votes (40.4%)

This match started out extremely close, and was tied 8 different times, but eventually TvL broke away and took the win. Most of MVT's support came from MKW, while the other games favored TvL, especially in MKDD.

Thomas moves on to face Tom Gaffikin in Round 3.

2-4
Kalle Videkull - 60 votes (61.2%)
Marius Mollenhauer - 38 votes (38.8%)

Kalle jumped out to a 22-2 lead at the beginning, and it was never close after that. Moly won the MKDD and MKDS votes, but only by a narrow margin, while Yazzo dominated the SMK and MKW votes.

Kalle moves on to face Matt Ellis in Round 3.

2-5
Cameron Tangen - 44 votes (55.0%)
Drew Blumfield - 36 votes (45.0%)

Duff dominated SMK, Cam dominated everywhere else. Everywhere else had more people.

Cameron moves on to face Nick Meade in Round 3.

2-6
Kristopher Will - 53 votes (59.6%)
Tyler Worley - 36 votes (40.4%)

Tyler dominated SMK, Ostro dominated MKW. MKW had more people.

Kristopher moves on to face Chris Clark in Round 3.

Sean Billingsley - 36 votes (40.9%)

Yunus advances to face Nicola Torre in Round 3.

2-8
Simon Laflamme - 49 votes (58.3%)
Dylan Gaunt - 35 votes (41.6%)

Simon advances to face Lewis Benny in Round 3.

The return of chartz and graffz! Remember you can also view more detailed breakdowns of matches here: http://www.thengamer.com/updates/kart/2010/

2-11
Ryan Stevens - 42 votes (52.5%)
Mike Zarro - 38 votes (47.5%)

We had our first really close matches of the 2nd round today, starting with this one. Ryan and Mike were tied at 6 different benchmarks throughout the match, and neither one ever came close to breaking 60%. Mike doubled Ryan in the MKW vote, but Ryan dominated the SMK and MKDD votes to narrowly take the victory.

Ryan moves on to face Darius Austin in Round 3.

2-12
Vincent van der Fluit - 50 votes (53.2%)
Alvin van Asselt - 44 votes (46.8%)

Vince jumped out to an early lead, but Alvin closed the gap and kept the match super-tight for most of the day. Alvin did very well among MKW and New school voters, but Vince's support everywhere else was too strong.

Vincent moves on to face Robert Szabo in Round 3.

I'm going to be away with relatives for a while, so Shadow will be filling in for me in the meantime. Be nice to him!

Hey there. My net connection has been up and down for the last hour, which is why it has taken so long to post. Here are the results:

2-12
Zoran Tintor - 47 votes (60.3%)
Bo Garman - 31 votes (39.7%)

Zoran took an early lead but was quickly caught by Bo, who had a very strong mkdd following. Zoran's strong following in the other games was enough to push him past Bo, and the result never looked in doubt near the end of the day.

Zoran advances to face Ben Allen in round 3

2-13
Michael Liem - 44 votes (57.9%)
Dave Taylor - 32 votes (42.1%)

An extremely close match for most of the day. Michael's near total dominance of the mk64 vote tipped the balance. Michael led by just one vote at 33 - 32, before taking a run of 11 votes at the end of the day.

Michael advances to face Karlo Tomazelli in round 3

2-16
Dave Smith - 45 votes (55.6%)
Andy Lundeen - 36 votes (44.4%)

Andy started out with a nice run of votes, before Dave pulled it back. They were nip and tuck for the first 14 hours of the match, but Dave got the late vote to close out the tie. This was a real old vs new battle as most of the new people voted for Andy and most the old and middle voted for Dave.

Dave moves on to face Kevin McAteer in round 3

The other matchup today was tied after 24 hours, and so will be extended by an extra day.

For more stats on the matchup, see: http://thengamer.com/updates/kart/2010/match.php?match=17
2-17
Steven Zwartjes - 49 votes (55.1%)
Shaun Tanney - 40 votes (44.9%)

This was a very close matchup all day, with Shaun getting massive support from mkwii in particular. Steven's support base in smk and mk64 was too much to overcome in the end.

Steven moves on to face Tom Norton in Round 3

For extra stats, see: http://thengamer.com/updates/kart/2010/match.php?match=18
2-18
Abel Marques - 48 votes (59.3%)
Pier-Yves Lemire - 33 votes (40.7%)

Although PYL got off to a good start, Abel quickly pulled out a decent lead, and then maintained the gap throughout the day. His near total dominance of mkds and mkwii voting groups left the result in little doubt. Pier got some nice support from the smk and mk64 groups, but it wasn't enough.

Abel moves on to face Michael Jongerius in Round 3

We finally have a result for the matchup that just wouldn't end!

2-15
Michele Magnaterra - 48 votes (50.5%)
Florian Valandina - 47 votes (49.5%)

The match swung one way and then the other before settling down into a dead heat where neither player could get votes without the other responding. Flo got some nice mksc support, and a minor majority of smk votes. Michele had the edge in mk64,mkds and mkwii. The match ends after 57 hours.

Michele goes on to face Scott Abbey in Round 3

2-19
James Leare - 42 votes (50.6%)
Manuel Babjar - 41 votes (49.4%)

James led by quite a margin early on in the matchup, taking nearly all the mkwii votes, along with a majority of the mk64, mkdd and mkds crowd. Manuel's near complete blitz of smk and mksc made the matchup level on a number of occasions. James wins this one by the narrowest of margins.

James moves on to face Andrew Howes in Round 3

2-20
Florian Chollet - 51 votes (71.8%)
Christophe Charignon - 20 votes (28.2%)

Florian took control early in the matchup, and never let his grip go, taking the majority of votes across all games, except mkwii, where Christophe put up a valiant fight to take half the votes.

Florian moves on to face Cooper Lovera in Round 3

2-21
Guilherme Arantes - 53 votes (64.6%)
Ben Hart - 29 votes (35.4%)

Guilherme blitzed nearly every game, especially smk and mkdd. Ben took nearly all the mkwii votes, but it was too much of a mountain to climb for him.

Guilherme moves on to face Finn Berger in Round 3

2-22
Christian Wild - 48 votes (58.5%)
David McPartland - 34 votes (41.5%)

This matchup was very close after 6 hours with just 2 votes separating Christian and David. David got strong support from mkds and mkwii, but even there Christian was able to compete. His near total dominance of smk, and strong mk64 and mkdd votes secured a convincing win.

Chris moves on to face Tuomas Dunkel in Round 3

This is just a small warning that I may not be around later to post the results of today's matches or the new polls. Someone else may fill in though, or in the worst case scenario I'll do it early tomorrow.

2-23
Robert Lee - 52 votes (59.1%)
Hendrik Bunde - 36 votes (40.9%)

Robert got off to a flying start, but Hendrik fought back well to almost level the match after 12 hours. Hendrik won the mkdd vote well, and edged the smk vote, but Robert had strong support everywhere else to make it a comfortable victory in the end.

Robert moves on to face Jeffrey Gutierrez in Round 3

2-24
Vincent Tolhuis - 53 votes (62.4%)
Giulio Centrone - 32 votes (37.6%)

Vincent led this matchup all day, floating around the 60% mark. Giulio picked up some strong support in mkds and split the mksc and european vote evenly. VAJ picked up strong support from America and especially from mk64 and mkdd.

Vincent moves on to face April Thompson in Round 3

Edit: As with yesterday, I won't be able to post the results as my net connection is dead at home. Hopefully it will be fixed by tomorrow and we can continue without interruption.

I've got the results of the two polls from yesterday.

TB1 55 (65.5%), Rustemeyer 29 (34.5%)
http://thengamer.com/updates/kart/2010/saonly/match.php?match=25

TB1 earned 60 or more percent in nearly every category in this match.  His biggest wins were IRC and Middle School, while also managing to earn 65% of the vote in both Europe and North America.  At one point in the day Thomas earned 8 votes in a row, and he had several other periods of 4-5 in a row.  Rustemeyer never earned more than 3 votes consecutively, and suffered as a result.  TB1's lead kept building the entire day, and he stuck around the 60-65% mark almost the entire match.  Results have been fixed today so they come in the proper order in the tally below the statistics.  The line on this one was set at TB1 53%, so he beat the spread by a wide margin.  All 3 spread voters correctly chose the OVER.

Thomas moves on to face Sebastian Stellmacher in Round 3!

KingAlex 37 (44.6%), Wonn 46 (55.4%)
http://thengamer.com/updates/kart/2010/saonly/match.php?match=26

Wonn had streaks of both 7 and 8 votes to help get him past Alex Shoal in this exciting matchup.  For most of the day the gap was less than 10 votes between these two, but by the end it was a bit out of reach.  Alex actually had the lead after 50 votes, and his biggest lead of the match was 4 votes a bit earlier than that.  Wonn's late-day success could prove useful in his next round against Matt V.  Wonn pulled a strong vote from Old and Middle Schools, but lost by a landslide in Newest School and MKW.  IRC was a split for David, but he won Eliters 8-4 and Mods 6-4.  Europe favored Wonn while North America actually preferred Alex in this one, which could be troubling for David's next round. The line here was Wonn 63%, so he fell about 8% short of his expected mark.  Two bettors chose correctly and one was wrong on this one.

Wonn moves on to face Matt Vanderwouw in Round 3!

Preds and Spread have been updated.  In preds there were some slip-ups, and we have a FOUR WAY tie for first now! Darius, Fababu, Sportsguy, and Mick are all tied at 44 points, and the rest of the top 10 has at least 40 points. We're nearing the end of this round, so soon matches will be worth two points per correct prediction.  Mick has gotten out to a really nice lead in Spread, with a two point advantage over Thingy and Firewaster.  His 16 total wins also lead the pack.  The lines yesterday were mediocre at best, so all you bettors out there shouldn't have too hard a time winning major points on this! Make sure you all get your bets in, today's lines are probably easy winners!

I'm back! For a while. Maybe.

2-27
Alencar Faria - 43 votes (58.9%)
Sean Sullivan - 30 votes (41.1%)

http://www.thengamer.com/updates/kart/2010/match.php?match=27

Sully started out with the early lead thanks to a strong IRC vote, but Alencar quickly passed him and the match was almost never in question after that. Alencar completely dominated the SMK/MKSC vote, in particular picking up a full 16/16 votes from SMKers. Sully won the battles in his main games, MKDS and MK64, but was not able to take complete command of them as Alencar did in his games.

Alencar moves on to face Karel van Duijvenboden in Round 3.

2-28
Cole Gilbert - 53 votes (63.9%)
Luca Barbetta - 30 votes (36.1%)

http://www.thengamer.com/updates/kart/2010/match.php?match=28

A somewhat similar story in this match, except the roles were reversed. Luca got the SMK and MKSC votes but it wasn't enough to match Cole's support everywhere else. The MKW vote favored Cole 21-4, and it's hard to win against those kind of numbers.

Cole moves on to face Paul Tanney in Round 3.
