I am in this contest to represent the honest, everyday American. I don't live in a mansion, have the good looks of a Hollywood movie star, eat at fancy restaurants, drive a Rolls-Royce, or walk around wearing expensive suits, shoes, watches, or jewelry. I'm not an astrophysicist, a neurosurgeon, or a CEO. I am just a down-to-earth guy who leads a very ordinary life and keeps his faith in God.
I do not take a single day of my life for granted. I don't take a single bite of food or a single sip of beer for granted. I don't take for granted my loving family, the 1000 sq. ft. roof over my head, my priceless pet Chihuahua, my video games, or the computer I'm sitting at as I type this. God has taught me to appreciate every little thing I have in my life because He can take any of it away whenever He feels like it. I can't even take my Karting talent for granted because God can take that away too via an injury, etc. If I don't win this Karter Contest, it wasn't God's will that I win. I must always accept everything that God has in store for me.

Thank you for voting,
Nicholas C. Harvey.

*standing ovation*

Is it just me, or is everything Harvey says seem like a speech where he should have an American Flag in the background.

Maybe gained my vote, depends who you're up against though.

Well, he's got my vote because of that speech. Putting God aside, he really loves his country, just like I do.

Some people in IRC were wondering what do you do in your everyday life. Have you been to college and if you have, what did you major in? Are you currently working or what kind of jobs have you done in your life? Is joining the military still something you think about? Do you live on your own or with other people?

You post quite a lot, but I still don't seem to know almost anything about you. Smiley

Well, like many of the rest of you, I still live at home. (Of course, wherever you live is "home"...)

I'm looking around and trying to decide what I should really try a career in, and going to school to master the skill I want. It probably won't be the military, because I also like video game development (as video games have been my life for so long), but I could also try teaching (like Florent Lecoanet does), linguistics, anthropology, maybe even astrophysics, that last one really enthralls me with the prospect of time travel and interstellar travel via wormholes (which can be created by focusing enough energy on one point). I'm not sure, however, to what extent God would allow us to mess with the space and time He created--- could He have paralyzed Stephen Hawking to keep him from inventing those very things?  Huh

I'm not so stupid like some people on this board think I am, and fairly good with a wide variety of different things, so if I truly needed to get a job quickly, I ought to be able to get it, even something mundane and low-paying like fast food or manual labor (the latter of which I've worked in before). I'd prefer to do something I like, of course, but if it's necessary to keep my face fed, I'll wear whatever work boots will fit.

In the mean time, family and God have been taking great care of me...  Smiley

The fact that God would paralyze someone in order to stop them from finding wormholes that he wouldn't want someone to find out about....you'd think he'd go the whole way and make the guy completely indept at communication so it can't get out to the public.

But hey, I don't really know what God thinks about it all.

Well, it is impossible for us to totally understand God's reasons. My thing with Hawking is just a theory, of course, but there's always that chance. Perhaps He doesn't want too bright of a boy to play with too big of a toy. Hawking probably could lead some kind of experiment, given his ability to "talk", but just imagine how much more he'd be able to accomplish if he could move, too. I don't think God would allow a man to build, say, a warp portal to Heaven, as I do believe that it is a parallel dimension  Smiley

I'm not prejudice, it's actually more of these lines why I reacted the way I did. Harvey is so indoctrinated that he feels it would be okay if god just decided to take away every little thing in his life, or injured him so he cannot kart. It just screams blind obedience. And then he acts like its gods job to take sides in the Karter Contest!

Edit: ^^Oh, really Harvey?? God in his all-knowing, all-powerfulness can't possibly conceive of a better way to end WW2 than a massive explosion killing thousands of innocent civilians??

Well, first off, God isn't the only person who is wanting control of this world. In fact, so far this seems to be quite the situation that is working for the benefit of evil/satan. A big bomb that blows up cities and kills hundreds of thousands. That in itself is terrible. Then, the blame is immediately put on God. That is pretty convenient.

Also, although we have yet to really see an example, the nuclear bomb may be used for our good in the future. I don't know how, but it might. All technology that is invented stands a chance to be used for either good or evil.

Maybe the nuclear bomb is being used for good in the sense that it is a pretty damn good wake up call for humanity.

Just some thoughts I had for now.
