You’re not dreaming.  You’re not on shrooms.  This is for real.  The Karter Contest 2k10 is coming, and this time you get to decide who’s in it!

What is a Karter Contest?  It’s pretty much a big popularity contest.  A bunch of the biggest names in the kart community are thrown together into a bracket, and everyone votes for who they want to advance.  You can vote for someone for any reason: their karting skills, their board posts, their contributions to the sites, their good looks, whatever.  In the end a bunch of people lose and one person wins, so everyone’s happy.

In previous contests the list of participants was decided by a secret under-the-covers mod meeting in Lacey’s bedroom.  This year we’ve decided to try something more democratic and less kinky: nominations.  You guys send in a list of who you want to see in the contest, and the people whose names show up in the most lists get in.  Cool!

So here’s what you do.  Make a list of 10 people you want to nominate for this year’s contest.  PM that list to me (Honko).  That’s it.  Nominations will be accepted any time between right now and April 30th.  During May I’ll tally up the nominations and make the bracket, and there will be some time for discussion and predictions.  The actual contest will start at the beginning of June.

Q: Who is allowed to send in nominations?
A: Anyone who is a member of at least one of our six time trial sites as of January 1st, 2010.  You’ll also need a board account, since the only way to send nominations is by PMing me here.

Q: Who should I nominate?
A: Anyone who is a member of at least one of our six time trial sites as of January 1st, 2010, EXCEPT:

• The mods.  To ensure you don’t waste all 10 of your precious nominations on us, we’re just sticking ourselves into the tournament automatically.  We appreciate the thought, but a nomination for us is a wasted nomination.
• Michael Fried.  He won the last contest, so he will automatically be in and doesn’t need to be nominated.
• Yourself.  Actually, I’m automatically going to give everyone who sends in nominations a point on the tally anyway, so just by sending in a list you’re technically nominating yourself.  So don’t waste one of your 10 choices on yourself.

Q: Oops!  I messed up when I sent my nominations.  Can I change them?
A: Sure!  Just send in a new list and let me know it’s a change.  You can change your nominations as much as you want between now and April 30th.
