Occasionally Askable QuestionsQ: Will the number of nominations a person gets affect their seeding?
A: As in the last two contests, there won't be traditional seeding, but the bracket will still be organized so that the people who look strongest won't meet too early. So yes, if you don't want to see your friend get pummeled by Jones in the first round, you should nominate them even if you know someone else is nominating them too.
Q: I want to nominate someone but I don't know their real name. Can I just use their nickname?
A: I'd prefer if you used real names whenever you can. That's what we use on the sites, that's what we'll use on the bracket, and that's what I use to verify that someone is eligible for the contest. For the more common names I'll usually be able to recognize them, but if I don't know who you're talking about I'm not going to spend a lot of time trying to figure it out. I'll let you know if you send in a nomination I don't recognize (everyone so far has been fine). It's also a good idea to include
your real name when you send in your nominations if you think I won't recognize you.
Q: Will you tell me who nominated me? Pretty please?
A: No. I will not reveal who nominated who. At the end of the contest I may put up some general stats about who was nominated most by SMKers, MKDSers, old schoolers, IRCers, etc, but that's all. On the other hand,
you are free to tell people who you nominated and remind them of cool people you think they might have forgotten.
Q: I don't want to be in this contest. Can you just ignore any nominations you get for me?
A: The contest is most fun if all the biggest names are involved, but if you really don't want to be a part of it then there is always someone else who would be happy to be in your spot on the bracket. Let me know by PM as soon as possible if you're sure.
Q: How many people will get into the contest?
A: It will be a 128-person bracket. Like last year, the past champions will be held out of the bracket and participate in a champion's match after the contest ends so someone new has a chance to win. So in total there will be 131 people: 3 past winners (Penev, Cetin, Fried), 15 other mods, and 113 people decided by the nominations.
