Let's get 'r done.

So I bought MKSC and MKDS yesterday, since I decided I wanted to get me some handheld MK rankings (SMK will come later Sami, I promise  Cheesy ).

I'm getting a full MKDS timeset first, but then I'll be jumping to this game.  I'm aware of all the stuff that isn't allowed, so you can expect me to play by the rules.

I havn't watched all the vids, but my first question is: do I always use Bowser?  Is there any courses where DK is faster?

Mostly though this thread is to just announce my arrival on the MKSC scene.

Bowser is de rigeur for all tracks bar a few - Princess for RBC3, DK for RMC3 (and RMC4, it's a stellar replacement). Just use Bowser everywhere for now, though, those replacements are at WR-level.

And welcome Smiley

DK is slightly slower than Bowser, but you can use it in any track where you have to go offroad w/o miniturbo.

I used DK on a certain amount of WR's, mainly on sharp tracks, so it's definitely a good character.

Also welcome to the game Cool

Woohoo! Every additional MKSC player is great. That AF list really needs to grow so that the rankings become more accurate. "Top 50" sounds great until you explain that it's only out of 105 players.  Cheesy

@Chuck: I can say: "I got a top 50 time at MKSC without R!" and it sounds even better! Cheesy

You should use toad when going for a fast rMC2 5lap time, he's definately the easiest character to get a sub 58 with, even if you are not a good karter he will easily get you sub the one minute mark. You just need to cut through pretty much all the sand on the course.
Now watch this post get ignored completely just like the last time I told people to use toad on rMC2.

Did you show a video last time?

Describing strats for this game is hard enough, still some times up there that break the rules. Roll Eyes

Maybe you just played the shit out of it since your other times are average.

I'd say rMC2 is actually one of the levels I played least, etch. Also, it was Mark Engelsman who first thought of using toad for rMC2 and while barely any of his times are top 50, he has a #13 5lap time on rMC2. I didn't show a video last time because I don't have a camera but I suppose I could show you the strat by editing one of those mksc maps?

I'm not claiming toad is the best to use for the WR though. Although I've never tried to get the WR back when I lost it, I doubt that I could get it back, it seems to me that if you are very good at rMC2 with bowser(top 2 quality), is indeed better.. But then again, if an average karter like me can get a #4 time then perhaps in the hands of a better karter, he might be the fastest. However there is no doubt in my mind that toad is definately the best character to get a top 10 time with.

Alright, I've put an edited map on imageshack that shows the strat. It's not a work of art but it shows the strat.

It has been over three years now since I've driven what was then the WR though, so I might have remembered some things wrong. So when I say that I'm not sure which one I used, try both methods.

The reason you use toad for this is that you do not lose a lot of speed in the sand. I suppose you could use peach as well but I think toad handles the sand better.
At 1: This is where I used my mushrooms. When you don't have any mushrooms left, you should still just drive through the sand. You lose so little speed, it's still way faster than not driving through the sand.
At 2: If I remember correctly, instead of using a mini turbo here I jumped over the sand.
At 3: Instead of landing on the road here, land in the sand.
At 4: I'm not sure if I used the black line here or the red one. I probably used the black line, but seeing as I don't remember anymore you should try for yourself if you want to see which is faster

I remember having tried this strat with Toad, Princess and Yoshi and my times was better with Yoshi.
But played with Toad when you play for a long time with Bowser is not so easy.

Hi guys. Recently got this game, and submitted a full timeset a few days ago, and just checked the board now and saw this topic. I was told to use Bowser for pretty much everything, but this is just not the best thing for new players who want decent times. I 100% support using Toad for RMC2 at my level. He is without a doubt better than Bowser for new players. I just checked and RMC2 is one of my better times due to this choice.
That pic is almost the exact strat I came up with myself last week.  Smiley

I also advise using DK more than you should at my level as any minor mistakes will be punished more by Bowser's slower off-roadedness. Plus DK can turn sharper. DK is like a pair of training wheels.
Cheesy

Edit: I gave yoshi a try on RMC2 now, and improved my time up to #40, which blows my other times out of the water with minimal effort.

Basically that, lol. Tongue

Props for making that strat work because it seems the trick is saving time offroad.

A video of such a time would be glorious!
