I met the New Orleans Saints today!
01/18/10 at 17:41:21

Four of the New Orleans Saints came to my local mall and I got to go down there and get their autographs!  Grin

The players were #12 Marques Colston (WR), #16 Lance Moore (WR), #21 Mike Bell (RB), and #23 Pierre Thomas (RB).

They came to a sports memorabilia store, and I bought a miniature Saints helmet for them to sign. I wished them the best luck with the upcoming NFC championship, told them that I'm standing face to face with future Super Bowl champions, and reminded them to keep the people of Haiti in their thoughts and prayers.

I waited in line for 3 straight hours, along with about 300 other devoted Who-Dats. The local news reporters showed up with their cameras and mikes, so you may get to catch a glimpse of me on tonights 10:00 news if you get the WLOX or WALA stations...

Vikings fans: you can have Brett Favre's autograph now  Smiley

I got Favre's autograph when he still played for Green Bay Smiley He was at a mall in Madison, which is only 10-15 minutes away from my hometown.  I don't pay much attention to the NFL, but I still think it's cool to meet the players.

how much do you want for the helmet (sorry I usually ask as I'm usually in the market to buy things haha)?

though it's a pretty cool random meeting it doesn't seem like you're anything but a bandwagon fan just from the response.  It would've been a little more towards OMG I MET THIS AND THIS GUY and whatnot rather than the players were...  a little too form block.  :/

No bandwagon here. I supported them just the same the season after Hurricane Katrina when they went 3-13.

If you support a team just because they're doing well in this particular season, you're not actually a fan. There are plenty of people like this, I call those people "fair-weather fans".  Wink

Just like me and the Chicago Blackhawks. Seems like everyone in Chicago are Blackhawks fans today, but not even three years ago, I don't think anyone in Chicago could name three players...

Saints was my favourite team after seing his 13-0 during the regular league. Brees has made an aweful match, Manning too, he hasn't had the option to get close to reach his regular marks but he played anyway. Anyway, Saints deserve the victory. Amazing 1st quarter from Colts, but Saints dominated the 3 left quarters.
24-17 was my prediction, so I've win almost 50€ betting with some friend coz all of them bet for Colts.
P.D: Loool, 6 litres of beer running trough my veins, why the fuck am I posting here? Good night everyone!

Yeah, one thing I have always disliked about American Football is the fact that plays only last 5 seconds or so. Hockey and Football (not American) don't have this problem.

Baseball also doesn't stop every five seconds for commercial.

Thats the reason Football is so popular cause the advertisers get more time than the players,

There was a little notice during the game saying that you can go watch any of todays ads at a website. Ads on demand? Thats utterly ridiculous.

Agreed that football can get boring, but baseball?? Sure it doesn't stop every minute or so, but baseball stops every five seconds, they take longer to choose the pitch, throw about 2-3 times before anything actually happens. That's just as bad, if worse than American football.

@Clark: I think some companies try to make interesting or memorable ads for the superbowl, so maybe that's why they would think people might want to view them offline a second time?

@Zack: I don't know why football and baseball are so popular in the US, but I find neither interesting to watch. Probably the best American sport is basketball. It's not perfect since it has a horrible scoring system (I think it should use something like games and sets like in tennis) but it's surely better since it has constant action, lots of team play and skill. The others two lack one. Cricket's is in the same ballpark as baseball: a game mostly of individual effort, and it takes much too long. Plus there's no real moments of novel skill/brilliance that you can find in most other team sports. I mean, the coolest thing you can see is a fielder stretching and lunging to catch a ball or someone being run out by mere inches. Exciting, sure, but if you've seen it once then it's the same every time after that.
I'm a bit iffy on hockey and tennis. Hockey is basically soccer-on-ice but with action that's too fast (need constant replays) and average joes can't really play it casually with their friends on a sunday afternoon (need too much gear and a special playing surface). Tennis has a decent scoring system but it's its problem is that it's not a team sport. Well, there's doubles, but nobody cares about them. It'd be interesting if you could have tennis with a "team" and "substitutes" and stuff, but I don't know if it's possible.
At the end of the day soccer makes an easy case for being the best sport.

@Alex: you're clearly being biased.

Soccer although fun to watch can have even longer droughts of nothing happening than Baseball. How often in a Soccer Match does anything exciting happen? once or twice. Unless you count shooting and missing. Which is the same as anything in baseball repeating itself.
