^Because you need to pass over certain spots to get the lap to count. I believe there's a vid on youtube that gives a decent explanation, I'll see if I can find it for you.

Only thing is you don't have to go over the ridge at the beginning  Smiley

What I did to get a better idea of where to go at the beginning is when you get on the rock and head to the ridge, go slightly left of the top of that ridge and turn around looking at the finish line. The finish line invisibly extends over the rock to a certain point (I've almost got this point down to the exact spot but can't describe it). Go too far left at the beginning and you'll "miss" the finish line; not go up high enough on the ridge and you'll also miss the finish line.

His 2nd spot on the 2nd ridge is spot on.

I may do a picture to give you the best idea if you're still not sure.

how do you ride blue zippers? i do it like 3 4 times then jump very high

On DKS, you have to do the first jump on the zipper at a low angle, like almost going parallel with the zipper, but angled just enough to go in the air (if you can understand that).  After you land you have to press right and go up at a low angle again (it takes practice to understand how long to press right, I'm not sure how to explain it).  Oh, and if I know I went too high on the first jump, I hop right on the second jump.
And on WS I make sure I do the first jump low and then just hold left and hop every time I hit the zipper.  Of course, I'm not the best person to give advise on WS...  Roll Eyes

@inviso- That's an interesting idea to see where the finish line extends.  Any advice on getting on the rock consistently, or just practice?

Sadly, yes, that is mostly by practice =/ The best way to get good at it is to copy what Alex, Niyake, or myself do via the ghost (or Clements if you have it but his strat is different). This is a place where racing against one of those ghosts is greatly helpful for getting up there. Once you have the positioning down, the timing of the Mushroom is also key. Use it too early and you fall short, use it too late and you'll be behind.

To this day, I still like my ghost the best though b/c of my superb 1st lap, 8.689. Being able to see where the ghost goes so you can repeat the lucky bounce is incredibly helpful....sadly, I'm not 1st reg or ww anymore so my ghost isn't available except via Rival Ghost if you're lucky  Roll Eyes (or if I send it to someone).

For getting on the rock, follow Alex, Niyake, mine, or Sasuke's ghost if you have it. Personally, I like the way Alex/Niyake/I do it best as Sasuke's method is annoying if you ask me.

Once on the rock, after you pass the finish line/checkpoint 1, move in tight but be careful not to clip the right side of the rock (which would be on your left). When going around the rock towards checkpoint 2, go outside through checkpoint 2 and then try to get down the middle of the "road" after crossing the checkpoint. After that, go up the right side of the hump so as to cross the finish line/checkpoint 1 (you'll know what I mean when you see it).

Rinse and repeat via lap 2 and continue that into lap 3. For the final 2 shrooms, just follow the last part of the flap strat which can be found here, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fe8mujD9CQ&fmt=18 @ 0:31.  Use the Mushroom a bit earlier though but still in the air.

Go at top speed the whole way except for crossing checkpoint 2 and crossing checkpoint 1 when going from lap 1 to lap 2 and lap 2 to lap 3. If you need to slow down, release A only for a split second and then press it again (line yourself up during this split second). If that isn't enough, then resort to pressing B.

about tightness, the turns that have a "hill" can be done easier pushing up too (like a nosedive in the air). I dont know if you do that, and as for getting those splits: consistency Undecided

It depends of the first lap, iirc if you hit lap 1 splits lower than 24"250, then you can switch to the WR strat. My PR (1'14"5xx) is 1-2-0.

Actually Mick, I've found anything under 24'400 you can go with 1-0-2.

Indeed. I did my 1:14.733 with 1-0-2 with a 24.3x first lap I believe.

I could use some help on Peach Gardens. My ghost and Bubbles are essentially the same strat, but I was wondering what the "key time saver" points are on the course. Basically, what should I take an extra risk on the first lap to gain the most time benefit? The wheelies in the garden? how close I cut certain corners? How big of an impact does the second to last and the last turn have if you don't get it just right? Bubble's ghost just looks tidier and cleaner than mine right now. I'm working on that, but I also want to know the areas where it's best to "tidy up". Thanks!

awaiting Jaws, Bubbles, or any top 10er.  Smiley
