Hey, i wanted to host a game of mafia on this board. It's a fun game and i wanted to see if the people in here like these kind of games.

Basics of the game:
In its simplest form, Mafia consists of two sides: the Mafia, and the Town. The Mafia's goal is to kill the innocents, while the Town's goal is to kill the Mafia.

At the beginning of the game, the Moderator will secretly send everyone their role. The Mafia will know each other, while (in the basic game) everyone else will only know their own role.

The game has two phases. Usually the first is Night. During Night, the Town can not communicate, but the Mafia can discuss and choose someone to murder. After the Moderator has received the name of the victim, the Moderator reveals the dead player, and Day begins.

During Day, the Town must choose someone to Lynch; they are trying to eliminate the Mafia, but the Mafia can lead them astray by casting suspicion elsewhere. Generally, players will vote for someone they think is Mafia (the Mafia will vote so that they seem to be doing this as well, and might even vote for each other to confuse the Town); when a player gets a majority of the votes, they are lynched. Their role is revealed by the Moderator, and it is once again Night.

The game alternates between Night and Day until either the Mafia are eliminated, or the Mafia have killed everyone else.

Most games have more roles than just Mafia and Townie, to keep it easy i will just use one special role in this game: The Cop - Each night, the Cop can investigate one player (by sending their name to the Moderator), and finds out whether that player is Mafia or not. The Cop is on the Town's side.

Rules of this game:
- Not following the rules could get you modkilled, nd i'm the mod in this game  
- This game is going to have 15 players: 11 Townies, 3 Mafias and 1 Cop
- I'll send out your role pm once 15 players have registered. Then this topic can be closed and i'll open the game topic
- Roles are assigned randomly
- During the day the players have to vote in bold like this: Vote: Ivootjes. If you switch votes you have to unvote first. If you voted incorrectly, your vote will not be counted.
-Once there is a majority of the votes on one player, the game will be in twilight until I post the lynch scene. During twilight, players may still talk, but no votes or unvotes will have any effect.
- During night, talking is allowed, but voting is not (voting happens at day, as explained in the basic rules)
- Each day will last 72 hours or when a majority in votes is reached. At deadline, the person with the most votes will be lynched. In case of a tie, I will “go back in time” until the point before there was a tie, to determine who will be lynched.
- Each night will last 24 hours. During night the mafia and cop need to send me their pm who they want to kill/check
- No communication outside of the topic unless your role states so! (mafia can communicate with each other by pm/aim/msn, townies can't)
- This game will start with day phase.
- When you're dead you can't post anymore. I've never seen dead people talking.   Dying the first day sucks but it's part of the game.
- Don't post (a pic of) your role pm as proof that you're a townie.
- Don't edit your posts after you made them, especially not when you're dead.
- The game ends when there are as much mafia as townies or when all mafia are dead.

One last note: don't register for this if you don't want to play, try to make at least a few posts a day to keep discussion going. The game is way more fun when everybody is actively looking for mafia (or trying to pretend not being mafia  )

-The mafia pretends to be townie, so they're allowed to vote
-The cop pretends to be townie, so he's allowed to vote
-All talking is allowed, except for posting a pic of your role pm. Look up some games on the forum i linked to and you'll get an idea what you can talk about.

I'm in.  I've played mafia before and I am actually the worst player ever, really!

Other than the cop, do the other townies have roles?  I'm used to everyone having some role, like doctor, bodyguard, etc.  From your post it sounds like townies don't do anything except lynch and get killed, but that seems kind of boring.

I'm in.  You should have a doctor or something, basically they choose one person while the killing is going on and that person is saved automatically(so if the mafia chooses to kill them, they're saved).

Besides, the only difference with a lot of roles is what happens at night. And now it's more fun for the mafia to try and lynch the special roles.

Next time i (or someone else) could host some crazy closed game with a bunch of different roles.

A doctor/cop combination is pretty strong. The cop can just claim to be cop and be protected by the doctor until the doctor dies. This can be solved by adding more powerroles to the mafia (like roleblocking)

This is why you generally get a whole hoard of people claiming to be a role. A fifteen player game is fairly large in any case, and 11 townies is quite a lot.  

I'll join before you start if you want.
