SMKR times / records !
10/17/08 at 12:40:01

I tried searching for this, but I couldn't find any related results..

I am looking for a place where I can view lap/total time records for all the stages to Super Mario Kart R (hack) for SNES. But apparently it wasn't as easy as I thought.. Perhaps any of you got an idea, huh?

I am eager to see how well other people drive on SMKR..

For those who are interested in this hack, it can be found by clicking here! Savegame that unlocks 150cc can be found by clicking here! (right-click on the link and choose "Save As...")

Also, are there any other good SMK hacks to check out, huh? So far I've found SMKR as the best hack for SMK.

Pardon if there was a topic for this already..

EDIT:

I have to agree that the above mentioned SMKR version isn't working quite well. However, the newest modification to that version of SMKR, which improves the stages so the CPU also can put up a challenge at times. Not only that, the stages've been setup so that you HAVE to be skilled and figure out the proper shortcuts to take. Some shortcuts leads you to success, some leads you to failure... Compared to the original SMK, you can always improve your scores, both lap- and total times. It's even more fun when you're playing with a friend! This version also contains some details to spice things up a bit. It might not be that fluent in design and eye-for-details, but it's still a great variant to the original SMK!

Here's the newest version to SMKR: http://www.elgen.net/SMKRv3.smc - The savegame that unlocks 150cc can be found by clicking here! -
Enjoy!

And here are some records that my friends have done so far:

There are various hacks that have been made, some are good, some were a bit difficult to play / enjoy.

We have played that one too a bit but you wont find any records much if you hunt around the forums.

How about digging out the snes and joining the smk main site? Always up for some new members and extra activity, im sure youl present a great challenge  Smiley

That's the thing. I find SMKR way more interesting and a taste of difference from the usual and sort of "boring" SMK.. Way more tricky shortcuts and stuff makes it all so much more interesting, especially if you've got a friend to compete against, not to mention improving the various track times! So yeah, once you play it a while, there's a possibility to find this very entertaining and a bit of refreshment from the usual SMK.

And yah, I agree, there are many hacks out there, but none are as well-made as SMKR, tbh. The way my friends compete against each other by taking all the immense difficult shortcuts and all makes it even interesting to watch. We tried 2 other hacks, but both were just WAY too overpowered when it came to traps, holes and stupid shortcuts.

That's why we've started to play SMKR, mostly to get a taste of difference from the usual SMK. But yeah, the old one's still a great old-schooler! Besides, it's not THAT much different from the usual SMK, really. Just some new (and improved) shortcuts and some other traps. Rest's the same to keep the originality.

Perhaps I should make this thread as a SMKR time trial-thread, huh? As a place for us SMKR players (although there aren't that many of us out there..) Or am I supposed to do this another place, huh?

I suppose it is ok, just use this one if you want to post a few times, if others wana give it a try they can. Some of the SCs make it tricky and prob difficult to drive well. Plus if less of the full tracks are raced, it becomes like MKSC a little without the new site rules, if you know the game well.

Il leave it to you. You are more than welcome to join us though, give us a shout anytime.

Hi Guillaume,

I have a copy on a Jap catridge but it works for the PAL console only, i think because of this it runs a bit slower, and the boost start is off sync.

I see the one you have is most likely on a PAL cartridge, if yours does run smoothly like the rom, do you know where i can get another copy at some stage?

The cartmod was made on a Japanese cartridge, and MKR is a NTSC ROM only.

So you have to play it 60 Hz on a modified SNES or a NTSC system to run it perfectly, and play as it was a NTSC SMK. Wink

I can have a copy for you, perhaps just right in time for the championship, but it may cost you a few dozens of euros.

I'll do what I can, the only problem is that I would need a spare copy of a SMK PAL or Japanese cartridge (no NTSC size cartridge please), and I'm not sure the guy who made it to me could make a box and a booklet in addition to a cartmod. He did a very special favour for me but I know it pissed him off and he perhaps won't do it again Grin

I have an idea for you guys from UK.

I seriously think about coming to the Tower of SMK meeting in October, and I think I could get some MKR cartridges for you between the CDM and this event.

All I need is one SMK PAL or Japanese cartridge per guy, Sami could bring them to me at the CDM, and I would try to have them converted into MKR cartridges right for the UK meeting next October. What do you think about it?

Just talked with the guy who will make those cartmods, he will request 40 € per player + a PAL or Japanese cartridge to sacrify. Wink

I will also need a little more for postage but consider this will be a gift from me.

So, all the guys who want a MKR copy have to bring a cartridge + 40 € at the CDM, and I will bring them back to you at the October meet.

I need to know exactly how many cartmods will have to be made.

For the moment, seems that Clarky and Sami both want a single cartridge (40 € + a sacrified cartridge for each cartmod).

Gaff wants a complete one, much more expensive, or nothing, so he'll have to wait a bit more, but if I can get his cartridge + money at the CDM, I'll try to do something.

Anyone else?
