New MKDD Time Submission Utility

http://snorge.wrvids.com/mkdd/submit.php

Very simple to use for submitting MKDD times.

Here is what you do.

Pick your name.

Type your new PRs.  If you have more than one hz used, then type them in the appropriate section.

Hit submit.

You are done.

This helps the time submission process because you dont have to go to your email program or anything, it just sends it for you.  Very simple!

Yes I agree with Marijn.. Someone who might be out there to seek for hazard is now able to modify all our times. Someone like JCM/Karinina/Brenda might take his revenge!!

It is fine when you have your own password or something... nevertheless I keep submitting using the yahoo pages. It suits fine and leaves out the possibility for sabotage of our data.

Second someone can now more easily unoticed send in fake times without having the risk of a video request..

No, this just sends an email to the Y!Groups.  It does not automatically change times.  The updater would still see if someone was abusing the system.  The site doesn't even have database access at all.

How does the system know I didn't send the newest PRs for Bunde through your form?

his system only sends a message to the Yahoo Groups.  It doesn't do anything special, it just saves you the time of writing that submission yourself.  You still have to wait for an updater to update your times.

I won't get in trouble for bumping my own topic will I?

Looking at streamlining this form a bit, preview here:

http://snorge.wrvids.com/mkdd/index.html

Feel free to click around all the buttons, it is not hooked up to anything.

Once it is live, it will just send email to the Yahoo group, same as ever.

If an updater can weigh in on whether the syntax/formatting needs work, that would be very helpful. Specifically whether each time needs to explicitly say "flap" if it is one, and whether individual times can be 50/60hz marked or the whole submission.

If I added a comment field for each time, so users could supply a video link, would the parser be able to zap that into the comments field?

Some requests I've heard:

- Automatically going to the next field is nice, but also want backspace to take you to the previous one.
- Easier way to submit a full times page.
- Might not want to type in the full name each time.
- Want to be able to paste in from Excel.

Instead of requiring you to go through the list of 1000 players to find your name, I turned on "autocomplete" which, depending on your browser, will let you fill in the name field very quickly if you do not wish to type the whole thing.

Like a button on the page that creates all 32 slots to type times in, so you can jam right on down the list? I'd consider it, at least. But this is probably not a super pressing need.

I'll certainly look into this.

If your time is fully formatted already, you can actually just paste it in the Comments section below and no one will know you didn't use the handy boxes.

Thanks for the early feedback!

For the hertz, say "50hz" or "60hz" rather than "50". A single instance applies to the whole submission.

No need to specify "lap". The parser guesses accurately.

Unfortunately it won't pick up comments at the moment. That would need modification.

Make sure you send \r and \n and maybe even <br> because you may have noticed that yahoogroups has been squashing the output of your parser into a single long line.

Oops. Fixed.

Maybe I will set this new style up with a trial mode button from the main landing page where users normally select their name, and if people seem to like it we can make it the default. I like how you don't have to type the ' and " symbols between each number.  It also doesn't literally pull the entire content of itself by loading from the MKDD website  Grin

They look okay on the web view, I guess you're talking about whatever we made that can parse them out of there with the Yahoo API?

Here's a portion of a recent message that was apparently sent using the tool:

Code:
"messageBody":"<div id=\"ygrps-yiv-547033970\">Max Itzkowitz<br/>\n <br/>\nHello.  A couple more prs before the week is over.  Goodbye.  <br/>\n <br/>\nDC: 1:49.928<br/>\nDC: 35.420<br/>\n<br/>\nThanks</div>"

Are you thinking those \n should all be \r\n instead? Or something else? I can't even remember where to find the materials related to that thing at the moment...

Edit: Found the stuff. It seems to work just fine on the message from above. Maybe I'm misunderstanding. Did you have to manually edit the message before approving it to the Y! Group?

Hmm, I think they get squashed in the yahoogroup Pending section, where the messages stay until approved. Maybe they display correctly after that.

Ah, okay.

The current/old version sends plaintext email and only uses \n, maybe Yahoo is getting confused about plaintext email or something.  As of right now I've updated it to send \r\n instead of \n.  So if anyone sends messages after the time of this post before the next update, you can let me know if those came through better.

If that still doesn't help, I can change it to send HTML email and use <br>.

Speaking of which, is it possible for the site to send you directly to the current submitter when you click "submit" on the PP? I think this would be more convenient than it redirecting you to the yahoogroups, but up to you Alex dunno what you might prefer  Smiley  Smiley

The submitter page does not have the text information describing the submission process that is present on the Y! Groups page. It could work if we moved that text somewhere else.  I don't think you need to read it every time you go to the submission page, which is why the submission page(s) I created do not have any extra text on them.  Maybe we would only need some minor modifications to the text on the Joining Info page?

The current/old submitter page requires more than 5 pages/files to operate and doesn't even live on the same domain/server that the rest of the site is on.  However, the new style one can get the job done in just 1 HTML page (to submit to a Times Submission Topic on the MB, like this one) or 1 PHP file (to send an email to a Y! group).  So maybe if we switch to the newer format, that single file could be hosted on the actual site.
