It goes (from hardest to easiest): NTSC -> Gallo NTSC -> Australian PAL -> English/Irish PAL -> Dutch PAL. Everyone knows that.

Mark -- The train in the desert is what I think is random, though the actual timing is completely "on schedule" as it were for a train. But, it's appearance or lack thereof when you need to cross it's path is I think what they were getting
And, to the one who referred to a googolplex -- When did Doc Brown return from 1885 again??

The train in Kalimari is certainly not random. The train always starts in the same position and always moves at the same speed. Therefore as your times improve you need to adjust your strategy according to the train's position. The difference in Moo Moo Farm is that the moles (which occupy the optimal racing lines) are completely random and require luck to pass through.

It's been a while since I've played it, but I believe in MKDS they are not random, yet in MK64 they are.

Mark.....I have not played MK 64 in ages, and certainly didnt' play it enough to notice any patterns or lack thereof on moo moo farm, but they certainly seem like anything else in the series that has a pattern to it that must be adjusted based on the moment you are going through it. the thwomps in bc dd, not to mention the fireball at the end.
Why would they be random, and other elements set to a "timer" that appears random because you go through at different times, especially as your times get better?
Or is it just one of those things that "just is"?
(i'll accept that if that's the case, just asking cause I know how other elements are set up)
And, I didn't mean to imply directly that the train in the desert was random, just that if you aren't paying attention to your times, you aren't going to know when it will or will not be there, so it can seem random. My aplogies if it sounded otherwise.

Ya, I don't really have a good explanation of why the moles are random and nothing else in the game is other than "it just is." But, yes ask any top MK64 player and they will tell you that the only random element of MK64 are the f*ing moles on Moo Moo Farm.

Because the people who programmed MMF were evil, and the people who programmed the other tracks were not quite as evil.

Thanks guys, Michael and Mark, for the explanation. Michael may have had the best one LOL
if/when it is on VC, if not already, I plan on buying it, as well as SMK. Definitely missed out on those.

I actually prefer this style of TT if only that it more closely reflects real world driving than constantly doing SSMTs (or snaking for the n00bs). In this game there is more emphasis on establishing proper lines and tight cornering. With that being said, I still think MK64 still has the best and most nuanced control scheme of any MK. Every slide and movement has to be carefully calculated to maintain top speed. Hold a slide too long and you lose speed. Fail to maintain a straight line after releasing an MT and you lose speed.
In SMK the controls are good but are limited by the artifacts of ancient technology. MKSC is far too glitchy and in order to get a somewhat ordered ranking system you need to eliminate half of the strategies that can be found in the game. Meanwhile, MKDD and MKDS are so frantic that any and all elegance is lost (I guess a-tech in MKDD preserves some semblance of elegance but not much) because of the fact that sliding doesn't slow you down. As far as MKWii goes, the controls have the same sort of elegance that MK64 has but lacks the complexity of MK64 because of the limited MT techniques.
Just my opinions.
Mark, I want to print this statement out, frame it, and put it on my wall. I couldn't have expressed it better myself, and I agree 100%. Well stated.

It becomes random when you become angry for it
Anyway, those moles are REALLY random IMHO.
They are random because they hit you for like 9 seconds and then don't hit you for 1.

They certainly are not random in MKDS. I didn't know they were in MK64. That's weird.
