Which controller setup do you use?

Personally, I use a GCN Wavebird controller. I'm curious as to what everyone else is using.

Good idea for a poll, it will be interesting to see what everyone is using. I'm guessing the Gamecube controller will be the most popular. Personally I use the classic controller because I don't like those springy shoulder buttons on the Gamcube controller.

The sponginess of the triggers on the GCN controllers are a bit of a pain. There have been several times when I was in the middle of a slide where the slide broke off because of their pressure sensitivity.

I noticed that the analog is lower than the d-pad on the classic controller. How is that for steering and for doing wheelies/tricks? Is it comfortable?

gc controller.

mark, i used to use a wavebird when i started playing mkdd, but i found it didn't respond quickly/accurately enough so i couldn't charge mt's consistently, so i switched to a normal one.  idk if mkwii will have a similar problem for you or not.

You can slide with B..

I use mote+chuck, mostly because I don't like having to let go of the analog stick to wheelie/trick. (mostly for tricks)

I wouldn't say unfortunately, but I'm in too... not so great for fingers and for tricks/wheelies, but great for shoulders... mario kart and a beer have never been so good.

Also using the wiimote and nunchuck.  I played 50cc with the wheel but then switched.  I have played markedly better since.  Haven't tried the gamecube controller yet.

I quoted Mark Jones.

Conclusion:
On mote+chuck, you have to shake the Wiimote to wheelie/trick, which can get tedious.
On GC, you have to let go of the analog stick and press any D-pad direction to wheelie/trick.
Wheelies/tricks, especially tricks, are more easily accessable with mote+chuck, so technically it should be better.

Losing your slide may be because you are using a wavebird, I know when I played MKDD with one I would randomly lose a slide everynow and then.

On paper it sounds better, but once you use the nunchuck and drop a wheelie because you changed the position your hand was resting you'll understand why the GC controller is much better. Also there is no need to turn while in a wheelie so its not that big of a deal to move your finger off the joystick for a split second.

I just started playing today, and I'm using the nunchuk setup mostly.

Tried the wii wheel, it was ok, but I didn't like how it worked with starting a drift. I haven't tried the classic or gc controller, but I don't like the idea of having to stop steering to do tricks and wheelies. But with so many ppl using that, I'll give it a try soon.

Hmmm, sounds like I may need to switch from the Wavebird to the wired GCN controller. I'll give it a god and report back if I find any differences.

Yeah I tried the wheel for a while and hated it, so I switched over to Wiimote + Nunchuck, which is what I play with mostly.  Might give the classic controller a run later though.

Yars, I remember using Wavebird for MKDD when I first started, until finding from someone that it is NOT recommended, as soon as I switched my play improved dramatically.

dude the wiiwheel is better for 3 reasons
1- easy tricks and wheelies. you dont even skip a beat doing quick jerks
2-my thumbs no longer have to endure callaces and blisters when i refused to give up on beating my ghost after 6 hours of failure.....havent had to play that long yet but im reminecing of my mkdd days with bowsers castle...shudders at the thought of that pain again
3- i just feel apart of the game more and thus puts me in the zone alot better and easier.

nunchuck combo is superior...

Some cases you might need to drift over a jump when theres a corner close by (like in WS) and you need to be in control of that. I guess you could get used to constantly moving your thumb to do wheelies, but its still so much easier with a quick flick of the wrist. same with tricks.

GC controller is great for when you dont have any batterys  Smiley

I have no trouble wheelieing with the nunchuk. You just have to get used to it.
It's great to be able to trick without losing control of the bike.

if you master nunchuck+wiimote it is way better, but it's very hard to 'master' it, cause you may miss wheelies, for example the one after you land those are hard to do, etc. but if you master it the wiimote is faster than the GC controller (i mean in like doing tricks/wheelies, i see in many vids that you do wheelies after an mt very late, while i always get the wheelie right after the mt)
