Because the idea is to have the best time trialing site in the world. Nintendo's rankings are still lacking from a competitive standpoint and the services we provide supplement what they offer. If everyone in the top 10 puts mkwpp.com then our rankings become the default standard for Mario Kart Wii time trials.

Then again, some people prefer vanity over community.

We're already the best time trialing site in the world. Over time, like all five other games, the MKWii website will grow and cultivate the best time trialers in the world. I agree, having mkwpp.com as your name if you're in the top ten is a way to get it jumpstarted, but over time it will grow.

And yeah, vanity over hopes that our video game website will get more members.

Almost akin to spam. And the site will get a bad reputation. I think one on each list (preferrably the wr) would be ideal.

Saying that - it nice to know that 100% some person at Nintendo HQ has found our site and therefore our community. Maybe they'll read our forums for ideas etc or adopt some of our rankings for this or the future.

Thats why I suggested this long time ago but nobody cared:

I was thinking that instead of redirecting to the page, it could be redirect to a special page welcoming and invinting all the players with a brief explanation of the site, and in all possible avaliable languages.

What about a compromise?

Is the character limit on names long enough that people could have their own unique name (preferably something recognizable to one's name used here) AS WELL AS an "advertisement" for our site?

So for example, I could use "FrancesP-mkwpp.com" or something to that effect. (Just an example-- I don't even own the game yet!)

This would advertise the site while allowing people to have some level of individuality plus avoid the appearance of us "spamming" up the time tables.

How do you know all these hits are from new people? Can you find out?

It's just I will come on this site over 10 times by closing my browser down and reopening it again through the day. That's over 10 hits from someone who already knows about the site.

Does it work like that?

We do know it's working though, as a few have said they found this site by the link in peoples names.
