Maybe it exists, but I'm not aware of any realtime comms hub for MK players, have we got an IRC channel? A Vent or Teamspeak server would be even more interesting. Thoughts?

Our IRC channel is an ultimate and easy way to talk to other karters in large volumes. You can set up matches, talk spam that doesn't belong in here, and do many other fun things in there like trivia....there's a chance a page specifically explaining it will come soon, but for now you can check the older IRC topics by using the search function.

BTW, the channel is on gamesurge.net server and is called #mariokart

Sadly, that's what I think the problem is with IRC. Although it's easy enough, most people don't want to bother to download/install anything to setup their matches. I honestly think that anything more than a link which would take the user to a window in which you only need to enter a nickname would be too much.

For example, in my mind the front page would look like this:

- PARTICIPATE -
- News
- Join
- Submit
- Players
- Forum
- CHAT***
- FAQ

- CHARTS -
etc...

*** CHAT - would ask the user to enter a nickname. Then he's taken directly to a chat room.

Sadly, I think anything more complicated wouldn't work too well... but maybe I'm wrong. Maybe the IRC channel just isn't advertised enough? In any case, something has to change if we want realtime communication because people are not magically going start doing the IRC channel.

I tried talking penev into making a page like that but he didn't seem too excited...there are quite a few java apps available that would load right up into the #mariokart adn you'd just have to make a nick...it's not hard at all. It's the same thing as the one frosty linked.

How low is very low? Ventrilo and Teamspeak are easier to configure than mIRC.
