finn, I forgot to ask that, I think this is not well explained, what does separate charts really mean?
That you want only 2 rankings, one for bike, another for kart, or you want 3 rankings, one for kart, another for bike and another one is mixed like we have now?

I don't have the game quite yet, so I feel the need to ask a noob-ish question.  Smiley

If cars have extended MT's, why are some records done using bikes?

Well, I don't really see the need for separate charts.  Assuming you have enough "skill" to unlock everything, everybody can use the same characters/vehicles.  So that means that once the pros figure out which vehicle type to use for each course (which has basically been done already probably), anybody can ask, then use that vehicle to PR.  On the other hand, more charts means more competition. Wink

Only problem is proofing, if you can't hit a PR, you need a vid (which actually isn't a problem for most players come to think of it).

Now that I have the game I can vote in this.  Smiley

I say leave it all in one chart. Karts and Bikes are still governed by the same physics. The game keeps track of the best times regardless of the vehicle and I think we should do the same. Plus, one single chart is so much easier to keep up with.

Agreed. After using both bikes and karts, I don't see a fundamental difference between the two. Either (1) you're doing a wheelie or not when going straight, or (2) you're going for a 2nd tier MT or not on turns. Sucks that one method might prove more dominant than the other, but I don't think it's enough for separate charts.

No, it'll be a pain to keep track of two different vehicle times, along with each 3lap +flap, on 32 different courses.  Undecided

Voted Yes.

- Bikes are obviously faster than karts
- All of them are vehicle, ok. But they have really different gameplay, and it offers a nice way to create more various rankings
- Wifi doesn't make the difference. So that would be a cool functionnality to get it here. Otherwise, you can say farewell to any Kart PR... that's just sad
- I simply don't like bikes. I'd like to be the best with karts. And even my level doesn't allow it, I'd like to compete with karts... pretty simple

Here is how I think it could be done :
- Create 3 rankings : Kart, Bike, and Overall
- If someone sends you a Kart PR, put it in his PR on Kart PR table
- If someone sends you a Bike PR, put it in his PR on Bike PR table
- When querying the Overall ranking, for each player the best of his Kart and Bike data is used
- When querying the Bike/Kart ranking, the related table is used
- Of course, Overall ranking is the mainly one used for awards and such...

or

- Create 2 rankings : Overall and Kart limited
- If someone sends you a Bike PR, put it in his PR on Overal PR table
- If someone sends you a Kart PR, put it in his PR on Kart PR table
- When querying the Overall ranking, for each player the best of his Kart and Bike data is used
- When querying the Kart ranking, the kart table is used
- Overall is the main

I think it would just be a great functionality.

I also think that there is something like "it must be like this" or "it must not be like that". Functionality can just be fun and that's all what should be taken in consideration, with the technical feasibility of course.

Thus, IMO if it's not to painful to create and maintain, just do it (and so goes any other functionality). Otherwise, don't.
Whiners (like me ^^) from both sides should not be considered.

Have fun Happy

Here's my opinion:

It has to be kept to one chart.

My rationale:
In Mario Kart Double Dash, there's not separate charts for small/medium/large karts, even though small karts, the barrel train specifically, are clearly dominant.

You don't see anyone trying to do time trials with Bowser's huge ass kart and then complaining because everyone that uses the barrel train has better times.

It all comes down to the simple fact that there will be a clear best vehicle for Wii, bike or not, and everyone will begin to use it for time trials because they don't want to be at a disadvantage.

agree?

while the game doesn't save bikes separate from karts, it would be cake to make 2 profiles one for bikes one for karts.  but with 32 tracks seriously do you really want 128 WR's for one damn game?  I think it's pointless.  Fastest way to beat each track is what you should use, and if there are any glitchy SC's then track those separate otherwise just leave it be.
