I reached the semi's (last 8).

There was 8 heats to start off with on Wario's Goldmine and I managed to win my heat. Only the winners went through. This was played on a huge screen. There were 4 tvs above the main screen with each karters face on so people could see them. Also 4 racing style, padded seats with 1 - 4 on the back of them. There was a presenter , it was all recorded. It was like some sort of TV show, along with a commentator (the guy who does the f1 commentry). Mercedez from Hollyoaks did the draw to see who was in who's race. There were these big lights changing colour on the count down also.

The semi's were played on a completey different screen and a newly set out area. This was twice the size of the heats screen. The crowd were all behind us on seats, the cameras were there, switching angles (we could all see on the screen what they were recording) but when the race started it only recorded that. Tiff Needell was the presenter for the semi's and final. He went through each of the players to talk to them with the mic and after the race also.

How I got put out though was ridicolus. It was on the DK snow level I had the leader in my sight (the guy who won the final) and passed him on lap 2. Then it all went wrong for me. I got hit about 3 or 4 times, then continued to get hit even when I fell into 3rd. I felt like I was the only person in the race. I'm happy though..I know I didn't play crap, just the luck was against me! and people saw that. When I went around the last corner, that's when the top 2 finished. I had the final winner and this 14yr old kid in my semi match. So it was a pretty tight semi compared to the other I feel and anyone could have won it.

Final was on Mario Circuit. The guy who won shouldn't have even won. The 14yr old kid was coming up to the finish line and got hit with a blue shell or something, then someone else was coming into the finish line and he got hit. Leaving way for the guy to pass them both while they had been hit right on the finish line. He couldn't believe his luck. While the 14yr old kid look so devasted. Winner was 28, I was the 3rd oldest. Only 2 teens reached the semi's. Maybe the pressure got to them.

All in all though probably the best experience of my life and very nerve wrecking. Playing on camera and in front of all them people. Err Jodie Kidd was there too.

I also got to sit in this sporty Mercedez while it flew around this course at 100mph, and take some pics while sitting in a few in the show room. There's so much to say about it all. But I won't ramble on anymore.

I'm not sure Joey made it through the heats? The players there were really good and I knew it would be settled by items. We all got a copy of the game (already had it) and a £250 voucher thing for a Virgin experience day which I'm going to sell to make a bit of money from it. I got interviewed as well. I think all the winners from the heats did.

The hotel was nice but very expensive! Want to know anymore just ask. I've proably forgot a few things. I hope they publish this or something. I want to see it.

I'd rather have been put out the way I did then having to go through what that 14yr old kid did. It was unfair. I first got hit by 2 shy guys on that half pipe shaped part. They just came out of no where, and it's pretty hard to see things around you in that position. This is not like mkdd and mkds, you can't just mt your way out of trouble no more. It was close, but not my lucky day. My girlfriend heard people behind her in the crowd say that guy was very unlucky etc (which they were talking about me).. That 14 yr old kid only wanted to win so he could have a wii to play the game on as he didn't have one.

I shouldn't feel to gutted but you can't help but think what if i did that and didn't do this and stuff like that. Everytime I improve on the game at home makes me think why coudn't I have played like this. The game was fairly new to us all then I suppose.

Tiff asked me what my strat was going to be and I said I don't have one, it's going to depend on what items you get, so it's all kind of luck really. I just proved it to them by what happened in the final. Also my girlfriend said someone behind her in the crowd said the final would be down to one blue shell. They were spot on!

EDIT - Ever played while a commentator was screaming your name? It's very off putting lol.

Unlucky Tanney I thought you were going to win. The way you tell that story makes me feel well sorry for the 14 year old kid  :'(

Like you said GP is a hell of a lot of luck and the amount of items in the game is craziness.
