MK Wii Information
02/27/08 at 08:37:14

1c) Motorcycles:

~ Unveiled at Nintendos Fall Conference, players now have the option of choosing between karts or motorcycles.
~ It is unknown what degree of change, if any, the motorcycles will offer from the karts.
~ Motorcycles are capable of performing power slides.
~ Motorcycles are capable of performing wheelies; they appear to gain a speed boost while performing wheelies.
~ Multiple motorcycles per racer will be selectable.
~Bikes will be available in multiple modes, not just Multi-Player.
~Motorcycles (like karts) are capable of performing stunt in the air and gaining a speed boost upon landing.

2c) Snaking:

~ Definition: Snaking is a technique that became popular in the game MKDS. To understand Snaking, you first need to know what a Mini-Turbo is. A Mini-Turbo is a technique where the player first hops and holds the jump button and slides, then presses left-right on the D-Pad rapidly. If done correctly, they will see blue, then red sparks, then release the jump button to gain a slight speed boost. Snaking is a continuation of this technique, where the player does a Mini-Turbo, then quickly does another Mini-Turbo in the opposite direction, and so on and so on. If done correctly and quickly enough, the player can gain a major speed boost. This is Snaking, the rapid use of Mini-Turbos consecutively. If done correctly and well enough, it allows players to easily out distance those who do not use Snaking.
~ Snaking has been confirmed to be in this game by Go Nintendo, which has proven in the past to be an extremely reliable source. Whether is has been nerfed, altered, or made obsolete by stunts is completely unknown. The only thing we know is that it’s in the game.

3c) Characters:

~ Mario
~Luigi
~ Peach
~DK
~Wario
~Toad
~Baby Mario
~Yoshi
~Waluigi
~Bowser
~Boo
~Koopa Troopa
~ Baby Luigi
~ Baby Peach
~ Miis

4c) Items:

~Triple and single Mushrooms
~Golden Mushrooms
~Triple and single Red Koopa Shells
~Triple and single Green Koopa Shells
~Single and Multi Banana Peels
~Stars
~Bob-ombs
~Fake Item Blocks
~ Spiny Shell
~ Lightning Bolt
~ Blue Koopa Shell (with wings).

Courses:

~It has been confirmed that their will be sixteen new courses and sixteen retro courses, for a grand total of thirty two courses. This is not including the battle courses. Also, while we know that there will be thirty two courses, not all the courses have been revealed yet.

~Yoshi Falls: A brief segment of what is clearly Yoshi Falls can be seen in the first video with Yoshi cutting off Luigi and attempting to catch up with Boo, who is currently ahead of him. It has been confirmed this shall be a retro course of the DS version.
~Peach Beach.: A brief segment can be seen with Peach and a few other characters driving along the Peach Beach from MKDD. It has been confirmed this shall be a retro course of the Gamecube version.
~ Mario Circuit (Wii Version): Text can be seen in the beginning of the trailer, at the bottom right of the screen that gives the name of this course. It appears to be vastly different from previous Mario Circuits.
~Wario Mines: This level has players driving along a wooden track on a mine shaft.
~ DK Mountain: A screen shot shows Yoshi, Bowser, Waluigi, and other undistinguishable characters racing through what is undoubtedly DK Mountain from MKDD. It is unknown how drastically this level has been changed. It appears some basic changes, such as the addition of wooden ramps during the downhill run, have already occurred.
~Coconuts Mall: A screen shot shows Peach and Luigi racing through an area. In the background, a banner and a sign with the words "Coconut Garden" can be seen.
~Sherbet Land: A screen shot of Sherbet Land from MK64 shows Baby Mario racing with Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi in the background. It has been confirmed this shall be a retro course of the N64 version.
~Luigi Circuit
~Moo Moo Country
~Mushroom Canyon
~Toad Factory
~DK Snowboard Cross
~Ghost Valley 2: It has been confirmed this shall be a retro course of the Super Nintendo version.
~Mario Circuit: It has been confirmed this shall be a retro course of the N64 version. This is different course from the above Mario Circuit.
~Sherbert Land: It has been confirmed this shall be a retro course of the N64 version.
~ Shy Guy Beach (Hey Ho Beach in Japanese): It has been confirmed this shall be a retro course of the Game Boy Advance version.
~ Delfino Square (Monty Town in Japanese): It has been confirmed this shall be a retro course of the DS version.
~ Waluigi Stadium: It has been confirmed this shall be a retro course of the Gamecube version.

6c) Unknown Courses: (Unofficial names).
~Mushroom/Underground Track: In one level, players are seen bouncing from mushroom to mushroom. This may be a continuation of the Wario Mines level or a new level entirely.
~ Pipe Track: About halfway through the trailer, we see Luigi on a track with dirt and pipes to the side. This may be a continuation of Mario Circuit or a new level entirely.
~ Factory Track: In a screen shot, characters can be seen driving through some type of factory surrounded by mechanical apparatuses.
~ Frozen Track: Characters can be seen driving through an icy terrain with snowboarding Shy Guys as obstacles. It is unknown if this is a new level, a rehash of a previous Mario Kart Level with an ice/snow theme, or a continuation of Sherbet Land.
~ Mario Circuit 3: It has been confirmed via a screen shot that a course greatly resembling Mario Circuit 3 from the Super Nintendo is present. It is unknown how drastically this level has changed, if at all. Through the use of the map icons, we know it is a different course from Mario Circuit Wii version. We also know it is different from the Nintendo 64 Mario Circuit also confirmed present since they are, visually, drastically different.
~ Battle Dirt Stadium: In the only known screen shot of Battle Mode, players can be seen driving around a dirt stadium of some type with balloons tied to their karts.

7c) List of known Go-Karts Note: The go-karts listed here are the ones we know the names of. While some new go karts can be seen in the trailer, these have been intentionally left off since, besides some visuals, there is absolutely no information on them.
~The Standard MR.
~The Polturgust 4000.
~The Rambi Rider.
~The Standard PC.
~The B Dasher.
~The Standard TD.
~The Standard LG.
~The Standard YS.

message detail  8c) Game Mechanics:
~ Multiple karts per racer will be selectable.
~ Multiple motorcycles per racer will be selectable.
~ The minimum number of total vehicles per racer is four.
~ Mini-Turbos are back.
~ There will be twelve player online racing.
~ There will be online battling, the number of players is currently unknown.
~ For offline mode, the number of racers per game will be more then eight. At the start of the race shown, twelve karts can be counted. Whether this number is the maximum or can be modified for more or less is unknown.
~ For offline mode, four people on a single Wii can compete via split screen against eight computer players. So, it’s still twelve racers total per race. It is unknown if this is mode is Grand Prix or not.
~ Coins have been confirmed to be in the game. What mode(s) they are in is unknown.
~ There will be multiple control schemes. The two currently known are the Wii Mote and Wii Wheel.
~As demonstrated by Wario and Mario, players can now do stunts (360 spins and back flips have been seen) in mid air. Upon landing after performing a stunt, they gain a speed boost similar to a Mini-Turbo.
~Players can still initiate a “hop” or “mini jump”.
~ The button on the back of the Wii Wheel will be used to power slide.
~ The Wii mote (embedded into the WW) will be held horizontally, and turning it left and right turns the kart.
~ Motorcycles are now selectable instead of karts. See the Motorcycle section (reference number 1c, located above) for more information.
~ As demonstrated by Peach on her motorcycle, it appears as if more then one costume can be used by characters. While in her kart, Peach is wearing her traditional dress, but while in her motorcycle, she is wearing a pink jump suit. It is unknown if the costume change can be selected by the player, or if it happens automatically depending on the players choice of a kart or motorcycle. Since Mario is seen on his motorcycle in his traditional costume, it is most likely the players choice.
~Their will be a local and global ranking system.
~Times can be posted, sent, and ranked online.
~Ghosts can be uploaded and downloaded online.
~ Their will be a Wii channel devoted solely to MKW.

9c) Cups:
~ Flower Cup. Will include the following new courses: Mario Circuit, Coconuts Mall, DK Snowboard Cross and Wario Mines
~Mushroom Cup. Will include the following new courses: Luigi Circuit, Moo Moo Country, Mushroom Canyon, and Toad Factory.
~Shell Cup. Will include the following retro courses: Peach Beach (Gamecube version), Yoshi Falls (DS version), Ghost Valley 2 (Super Nintendo version), and Mario Circuit (N64 version).
~Banana Cup. Will include the following retro courses: Sherbert Land (N64 version), Shy Guy Beach (Game Boy Advance Version), Delfino Square (DS version), Waluigi Stadium (Game Cube version).

Does that mean that snaking will be possible ? I mean being able to pull off the flames as fast as you can. I thought it would be only automatic. Huh

Nope, you can slide like in MKDD, MKDS etc. but you don't charge the MT by steering but holding the slide for some time.
The automatic drift is just some weak drift that automatically starts when turning sharply and doesn't give you a boost as big as the MTs boost (I'm not really sure if it gives you ANY boost right now  Lips Sealed)

Getting the hang of the amount of time that is needed to charge the MT will put you right up the charts I think. Then it's just about time we figure out how to do SSMTs and stuff like that.
It's different but still there will be lots of techs I believe

If they keep the items on the d-pad it's definitely Wiimote+nunchuk. That way you will have a great control stick and still can reach all the buttons you need in a comfortable way (imagine slide-shrooming with the GC/Classic Controller x.x)
WiiWheel will be fun but I think it's way harder

Battle mode image taking place in Delfino Square.

"In other Mario Kart news, it has been revealed that the MK wheel will be available to purchase seperately in the shops. Only the Japanese price has been conformed so far though and its 1,200 yen. That's around £6 but we don't know how much it will actually cost in UK stores."

Where did you get that quote from anyway? The only true part is that the wheel will be available separately.  1,200 yen in Japan? I know their games are cheaper but that is a ridiculous price.  It will surely be closer to the 5,000 mark plus the 5% consumption tax that they have to pay over there.

And Game (UK) is advertising MKWii at the price of 34.99 GBP. By law they must sell it at this advertised price.  It is final.
