but this can go down, I think, because of the strat. It's the same strat as Ullman used, which is good, because then there can be no discussion about which time is stronger. But it also has a weaker first lap, like Ullman's run - and I think that's because of the shroom on the second curve. When you switch that to the shroomspot after the fence, lap times tend to be more or less the same, regardless of the lap.

The first and the last (of the ordinary) shroomspot may be pretty equal, though I have a hunch the last is slightly better. Then I still think William's strat is faster, and I hope more people at the top will be stesting it.

when I say this can go down, that's maybe a rather theoretical proposition. that run looked extremely clean, and getting one more as clean won't be easy, I guess. I've no idea what Michael can do if he really goes for it, though. He says this one was hard, but what that means, I don't know. How many hours playing does it take for it to qualify as hard, Michael

I played the 3lap about 8-9 hours. Within this time I also tried Lacey's strat for about 2 hours.
But I wasn't faster with it. Theoretically I see the point in the strat, but if it's faster..., I really don't think it will be a lot more than 0.05 on the total 3lap. At least that's my experience uptill now. And since the strat is harder, I knew I could do a better 3lap using the old Ullman strat.

My best middle lap using Lacey's strat was a 74. Wasnt perfect, but it felt like the strat could be just as fast as the strat Ullman used. Basicly the first lap is defo slower with Lacey's strat, around 0.03.
So the gain should all be in lap 3..

Further I think the best schroomspot is the 2nd corner. Corner after the fence is a very close second. (I tested this a couple of times)

So if you're going for Lacey's strat I would do a 2-1-0, using your first shroom in the second corner of the 1st lap.

My best splits using the current strat are: 73,68,66. So this WR looks pretty good...

And that first lap of 80 wasn't weaker to me, because my average was about 81,82. Some corners may look a bit messy, but the little trick after the first shroom (going half into the wall) really saved some time i think.

Maybe a short flap can be another case, but on long distances you can cut tenths more easily. As long as nobody hits a sub 1'55''93, I'm satisfied with my run .

I was going to make a thread about this just now. I want to watch all the WR vids, but couldn't find them. I guess this topic exists but I still haven't panned through it. I'm hoping to find a youtube channel with all the WRs uploaded and organized with decent titles.

If you look at the elite rankings, we have the videos attached to the rankings page... for every player who has a video, not just WRs.

This was implemented by computer programming genius Ryan "Your Eliteness" Dwyer and I'm sure someone like Alex Penev could do something similar for mario kart. Not to mention the fact that Dwyer made the rankings open source so you could easily change them for mario kart.

Anyways, all I want is the WR videos so hopefully I can find the channel in this thread (it's not linked in the opening post.)

Also, I can't help but notice a lot of the videos for kart are webcammed. This is poor quality. It's 2013 now. I just wrote a proof policy over at the elite where untied WRs NEED captured quality video. Webcamming was barely acceptable in 2003... ten years ago.

EDIT - and I can't find a channel that has all the WR videos. The only quarter decent channel I see is MK64MR or whatever.

I can understand how people do not find the page link, though some hard thinking perhaps ought to lead them to the first post here. A link on the main page would be kinda sensible. "Vids" ought perhaps to have a main heading?

I agree with that. There should be a link to the SRW page somewhere on the MK64 site. It could either be a "Vids" link at the top (next to Strats) that goes directly to the SRW page, or it could be the first link on the Strats page.

Alright cool, thanks for your aid everyone.

The point of having 1 channel with all the WRs is basically for promotion. Random noobs can search "mario kart world records" and get that channel and see all the WRs and directions to mk64.com from there. We've got really good views with theeliteWRvids channel and it's just a good idea (even if most videos are also uploaded on the players' personal channel.)

The SRW page is similar, but Youtube is a billion times more accessible, whereas SRW is practically darknet.

Yeah this page is useful. But it still doesn't change the fact that most of the vids are webcammed lol. Is this 1996? I mean seriously the top players need to get with it. Or there needs to be changes made to the proof policy where you require DVD quality or direct captured quality video.

How would you suggest we enforce that? Tell people their new WRs aren't acceptable because they're not filmed in high enough definition? Maybe we should strip MJ of his crown, because Matthias's vids look nicer. Grin

Whilst it would be great if everyone had a set up that allowed perfect vids, enforcing rules like that will only tend to drive people away.

the specific videos u want vids from simply doesnt exist, i dunno if VAJ have the best record for KD SC 3lap but it would not matter much anyway,

so if u post here that u like to see the vids replaced with the fastest ones(current WRs), i suggest u try for yourself, do a live capture and put on youtube if u succeed Lips Sealed

same for the presumptuous comments from Goose, which cant be taken serious of course, it still requires good hardware to capture and edit in 720/1080p .... lots of karters have hardware 2 generations ago or older.

a Wr in MK64 is a incentive itself enough also witout a full vid. Smiley

edit: thx 2 Jamie for explaining things to n00bs once again

edit: @ finn: i also have a very nice VHS-System but unfortunatly on my tiny old toshiba-tv it dont work to have n64 plugged and record to vhs at the same time, but the sharpness on a little CRT-TV is unbeatable.

You can't get a replay if you use the correct strategy here. It would be pretty ridiculous to record every time you play that course. Regardless, Vaj has a video that converts to the same NTSC time so that should be pretty good to watch.
