After my success on this track in PAL, and given my fairly lackluster ranks in NTSC, my first stop for the season was clear. I haven't quite gotten to grips with driving this track in NTSC yet and my hands were struggling to keep up going into lap 5, but I'll take the sub for now and leave it at that. The flap came as an improvement during a 5lap attempt. At some point I should actively target to improve it rather than waiting for my 5lap pace to take it down further.

Man this track is overplayed in NTSC. At least I've managed to grab a decent number of ranks, and hopefully I can stay away from KB1 for a while now.

I estimate that ~80% of my (finished) openers are in the range of "45 to "49, so of de la course I finish the rare race that has an opener insufficient for WR pace. Not done yet though of course. Like Coach told me in DM, every PR on GV1 is a war. The opposite of free, huh?

GV1 NBT 12"07 (-0"01)

Missed making the PAL WR 20 year streak a reality by one hundreth this time. But it's not all "bad" news, as this finally improves on that absolutely ancient PR from 2007...I actually didn't think the lap was THAT good, I felt some of the 12"08s I have driven were better, but that's just SMK being SMK I guess. I also improved (and thereby untied) the opener WR to 12"41. That one did look quite spectacular at least, especially last corner. I actually made it until lap 5 in that race, but had already missed the very first boost of lap 2 after that crazy opener. On a final note, I have gotten around to producing the video of that 1'01"41 5-lap PR. Hopefully more is still to come.

GV1 1'01"39 (-0"02) - 12"06** (-0"01)

Both are PRs by the tiniest margins possible. Grinding GV1 at this level becomes stupidly hard. For the 5-lap I had a real opportunity to score the WR, but I lost my nerve in the last half of the final lap and overshot the third corner in particular. I do not like to throw the word choke around too much, as lap 5 has a baseline 'mishap' rate much like any other lap, but this time the term was really applicable.

For the flap, tbh I was a bit surprised that this was the breakthrough I had been looking for. The first corner was obliteratingly good, the second was probably great too, but I have my doubts about the last 2 and the spacing between the 2nd and 3rd boost. Perhaps "02 is possible after all (like ScouB already claimed iirc). This took a blood sacrifice to get though, so I will not actively pursue this flap further at least. Sorry for the novel Moll, but there is one last thing to add to this message: this WR (tie) makes the 20 year PAL WR streak a reality! My first WR was a BC3 flap in 2004 when I did not even have a cellphone...I never thought I would be playing this game for so long after, but here we are.

Wow, PAL season is finally over for me haha; it took a while before I beat this WR. The pace was rarely the problem, but driving a 'flawless' run at this demanding speed is very difficult, mainly because of the low platform-jump successrate on PAL. In this race I failed a clear 1'01"2x through a very conservative last corner of lap 5, but I have no real regrets as I would have hated to crash this one (given how many hours were already spent this grind). Mario86's 1'01"35 would have turned 10 years next month, a true behemoth amongst WRs. I don't feel bad at all about beating it though, it had a great run AND he also has GV2 turning 10 years the same month anyway (at least, I do not foresee anyone even going for that in the remaining days left).

For me NTSC is next, or maybe a bit of an SMK break? We'll see.

This was my weakest PR in terms of rank and probably also objectively just my weakest PR, as it is also done with a strat I have not explored much. It still might be the case honestly. Last 3 laps of this race looked all over the place, but were somehow 'consistent'. Also, YAY NTSC! It was refreshing to PR so quickly after that deep dive into GV1 PAL.
