Great job! I knew you'd easily beat your Princess records if you at least tried some of the tracks with Bowser or DK Jr.

Glad to see you're aspiring to improve and are willing to try something new. Oftentimes the only way to improve your records (in Mario Kart or any game for that matter) is to try something you've never tried before. As they say, fortune favors the brave...

It looks like you really aren't ready to get the most out of DK Jr. yet. I recommend learning to navigate the courses with a lighter driver like Mario or even Yoshi. Bowser and DK Jr. are really meant for more experienced players who can avoid crashing and keep them at their top speed through the entire race. If you are new to SMK time-trailing you need a character with good acceleration (if you crash frequently) and tighter handling, because it takes real skill to get a heavy driver around the corners of a track like BC2 without hitting the walls every lap.

Get yourself used to negotiating all of the tracks without slowing down, by using R to hop and drift around corners, and once you get more confident, go back to DK Jr. on some of the easier, wide-open tracks like MC1. You'll see a lot of progress, I guarantee it. But yeah, nobody should reasonably expect to be able to zip around a track like MC4 or DP3 at top speed with Bowser/DK Jr. on day one.

Hi all!

Missed the update deadline, that's the drawback of playing Mondays after work I suppose.

PAL
VL1 NBT 9"45* (-0"06)

This was not the result of a long grind, though it was the result of multiple sessions. I'd say around 4-5 hours. I knew Aron's strat for the start of the lap (essentially middle lap strat) would be faster on PAL the moment he hit that insane 9"55 middle lap during his 5-lap grind. And that was confirmed when he got his "47 to break the quintuple tie. I applied this strat in order to reclaim a perfect flap NR score. I also borrowed the ending strat from ScouB's grind (Aslide boost). I think you can benefit a little from the earlier boost release.

Botched the audio recording, so have some nice guitar riffs instead. This is the first time using GV-usb2 and Amarec to record. Something just had to go wrong. Should be fixed next time, I can do 50/60 fps with this card, so that's nice.

Hi all!

This week I managed to cross one more item from my personal SMK OCD list by beating the BC1 PAL 5-lap WR. Not specifically because I wanted that WR so badly, but because Aron's 1'27"83 was the last remaining WR without video. Because this WR has (finally) been beaten, recorded and uploaded we now have all standing 80 SMK Time Trial WRs on video for the first time in history (I believe).

Since WRs require video proof now, I believe this represents a true watershed moment for our community. I want to thank all karters that were achieving WRs in recent years (while providing videos) to turn this into a reality. I'm nodding at ScouB, Sami, Mario86, Aron, Lafungo, GAS, Neo, Chris Wild, Matt and Eric. Definitely a team effort!! I hope I'm not forgetting anyone.
There are some WR ties remaining that do not have a video, and also some videos of questionable quality, but I consider both of those issues a little less vexing.

Anyway, enough yapping about the significance of this result. Let's briefly talk about the race that got me there:

PAL
BC1 NBT 1'27"81* (-0"08)

Splits:
L1 17"71
L2 17"53
L3 17"49
L4 17"57
L5 17"51

Opener was the best one I've done in the current grind, the fastest ever being only 1 frame faster. That was a good race, but I missed the quartile barrier because of 3 'clear' errors. All occured in the last 2 laps. First I missed the FB upon entering lap 4. That's a risk with adding the finishline boost, I usually just tank a time loss if I miss that one. Also in lap 4 the 4th corner did not have a boost coming out of it (that's never even a full boost though and the corner was sharp). Finally the 4th corner of lap 5 was like 0"04 wide. Last lap should be the fastest split of the race (on paper), due to the strat used. That's because of the finishline boost thing and not having to cut the final boost short to build the entry boost of the next lap (there is no next lap). That said this one was all about beating it (or even getting a tie tbh) for the video thing. We can always lower it again later!
